The Good Stuff

There are simply two kinds of music, good music and the other kind ... the only yardstick by which the result should be judged is simply that of how it sounds. If it sounds good it's successful; if it doesn't it has failed. --  Duke Ellington

This purpose of this thread is to provide a place to post outstanding examples of the Good Music.

Our Leader was wise in saying any genre . Many of the folk songs of other countries can unite the entire as one . This was the one that can do same for all

Scotland.. These Scotts in their thousands are out to play Denmark at home

The "High" means the dead Scottish Soldier will be back home before his love.

It is so meaning full in that the Scottish Soldiers were the ones first to battle by the English .

I was introduced to The Gospel at Colonus from its airing on PBS (a DVD was later released but no longer available). The story of Oedipus set to gospel music is irresistible. I saw it performed live in the 1990's, with some of the original cast including The Blind Boys of Alabama. It was one of the most memorable performances of anything I've seen.

THE GOSPEL AT COLONUS

Nonesuch 1988

Wikipedia:  The Gospel at Colonus is an African-American musical version of Sophocles's tragedy, Oedipus at Colonus. The show was created in 1983 by the experimental-theatre director Lee Breuer, one of the founders of the seminal American avant-garde theatre company Mabou Mines, and composer Bob Telson.

but virtually the rest of the entire world has a European "bias" on Classical Music

America is an 'exceptional' country, so this is not surprising.

Cheers

True, but virtually the rest of the entire world has a European "bias" on Classical Music .

Of course they will go to great American Orchestra’s that come to Europe,

but seldom will go to the USA .

Almost every American true lover of classical that has a few bucks , does go to Europe .

So do I.  I just have an American bias, just as you have a European bias.

Cheers

If that is not a Great Orchestra there is no such thing !

Folks seemed to agree .

Well rok , A recording is not a live concert .

I n the last 50+ yearsI have been to over 2,000 live Classical concerts .

A dozen of them were the LSO . They have the power of Berlin and with English

composers (some) the melody of Vienna . It is what I said it is , good as any .

When Previn had it  better at times .I have not heard Cleveland in 40 yrs,

All I know is that Cleveland is THE poorest of any major American city , what

that means for the Orchestral world I now not what..

This tread to me is all what the forums should be. 👍

My only wish is that instead of YouTube videos they could be placed on a Qobuz playlist so I wouldn't have to look up each track / artist and add them to by favorites manually.

@danager *L* Actually, no....but am pleasantly stunned by your responses, if all were aimed towards me. ;)  Being given a playlist that would likely take me a week or so to sift through doesn't occur on any regular basis... *G*

I do urge any interested in taking an advantage on this, however....
I like to think I play well with others, given what I do for a living, owning a company that builds playground items... *S*  It does limit my time to 'seriously enjoy' music beyond my 'day to day' 'dreck'. *LOL*

And, after all....Thanks! 👍😃 J

I can not say the LPO is the best Orchestra in the world ,but I will say nobody is better .

Not sure they are even the best in the United Kingdom, the world, there is always Cleveland.
