I tried the FoQ tape and at first, I liked it, but then I began to detect the closing in of the upper frequencies and the soundstage. So, I removed it.
Question:
Has anyone tried the Puronās into a power conditioner? I initially tried the Puronās plugged into my Niagara 7000 and did not like it. I even wrote a review about it. But now after many hours of working with them I have discovered certain things do not work well with the Puronās. Itās not the Puronās fault so just donāt be afraid to experiment.
Thus far I have been plugging them into the wall where the conditioner plugs in. But next step will be the conditioner again. Anyone find they work better in or out of the power conditioner?
Immediately I heard better sound with a Puron plugged into a power conditioner.Ā Average to poorly recorded cds are more engaging, with more of a "you are there" feel.Ā I can now look forward to rediscovering old music.Ā I have ordered two more units.
I wasnāt able to try them yesterday. Today is the first with 2 of them on the same dedicated circuit.
So, with just a couple hours there seems to be more of everything. That is; bigger, deeper soundstage, stronger bass and for some reason the music seems to be a little louder at the same volume settings?
The only drawback is that keeping the Puron closest to the main AC equipment input/outlet is preferred. A long extension cord may negate its effectiveness. But you can try it.
I have a Puron on the way. I have the Furutech device and never felt it did much in my system however. After watching the filter shootout video I was wondering if anyone has tried or would be willing to try plugging the Puron into an extension cord that could reach your listening position. Hoping this would emulate doing an AB comparison without relying on someone to help. From what I have read from Puron owners on this thread is the unit would only herd when pulled as seems its effects come on over time. Any thoughts or volunteers for this experiment?
@antigrunge2Ā I believe thereās something to say about the fact that Akiko has Ā been able to stay in business for such a long time. Not sure if thatās due to the cost and effectiveness of their products or if it says more about their savvy business practices but they were one of the first, if not the first to make these ac plugs. And Iāve found that by being anal about where I place the tuning sticks, that Iāve been able to finely tune the sound. I donāt doubt that other more recent products might perform better but the Akiko Sticks have worked for me. I may at this point however be more willing to try the Less Loss products. But has anyone tried the AC Triple Evolution?
I received an email response from Akiko Audio regarding the break in period and their newest tuning stick. Here it is,
The burn-in time of the tuning sticks is indeed about 14-21 days. You can add a Triple AC Evolution to your system. This new Triple has a completely different structure and goes well with the older version! It is a nice product, which offers a lot of quality, in my opinion.
I noticed your comment about the MC-05. What do you think of using both the HF MC-.05 and the Puron at the same time? Prefer one over the other? I am using both the (HF Helix Signature+) and the Puronās at the same time. I have never removed the HF plug while using the Puron. I guess I could, but to me, the HF stuff takes time to break back in once unplugged.
Once I get additional Puronās I will no longer need to move them back and forth between my audio and video. Then, I probably will apply some NPS-1260.
Not yet, I want to observe its raw, effectiveness and signature sounding first. As i shared previously on this thread, these Purons sound very similar to Q45-Tā¦ which means, warmer and fuller than NPS-1260
At the moment, Itās right on the money in my system. By Adding more Q-45T, Iām afraid my system would prob be too dark or too warm.
Between you and me, Pete, this Puron is actually more effective than MC-05 and more beautiful sounding
I have no reason to doubt the efficacy of this product as I realized a positive SQ benefit with a Shunyata Venom Defender plugged into an outlet which also has my power conditioner plugged into. However, I donāt get these types of comments
"It became so grainy and scratchy. Soundstage and image were unbearable that I had to plug them back in"
One would think that if the system was this unbearable to listen to it would have been quite noticeable before installing the Puron, or anything like it.
So I removed 1st Puron and then 2nd Puron from my systemā¦. I thought the difference would be minimal but wow I was wrong.Ā The sound quality quickly degraded. It became so grainy and scratchy. Soundstage and image were unbearable that I had to plug them back in within an hour.
Originally, I really wanted to leave them off system for at least few daysĀ for mind and ears have time to adjust and accept new sound? thatād be a $500 of savingā¦
Yes, each addition brought better sound quality in some way, otherwise I didnāt use it.
When I ran my 3 dedicated lines, I used 10-gauge wire terminated in several quad wall outlets with Furutech outlets and with Oyaide covers. I also have several 4-8 outlet heavy aluminum junction boxes that I made with Furutech outlets/inlets and 10-gauge pure silver wiring.
But most of my components are plugged into the Niagara's
they are passive conditioners using piezo crystals for creating electric fields purifying mains supplies (simailar to Acoustic Revive and Furutech) I concur with your use of Isotek. I use a Vision G2 for filtering the PSUs of my digital gear for DC and ground level noise
@antigrunge2Iāve had the same experience by trying certain plugs in a variety of places. For example, I have two XLR inputs on my DAC and by plugging an XLR Tuning Stick into the right channel, it renders a more forward presence while plugging it into the left channel, it renders a more relaxed presence. I opt for the more relaxed option given that my Quad ESLās have a slightly forward sonic signature themselves. Also, by placing the triple enhancer in a variety of different outlets on my line conditioner, Iām given various choices. Fortunately my amplifier is battery powered, so that avoids the ac garbage on that end. In your opinion, is it possible that these higher quality, plug type filters, could potentially replace the need for a line conditioner at all?
totally agree with your experience on Akiko. As always, the answer to me doesnāt seem to be either or. Much rather a gradual approach to find out whatās best for what has resulted in the following approach to cleaning up the power: Akiki Audio fusebox holder, Blck Box and Tuning stick on the junction box for the separate spur as well as tuning chips on all power cables, AddPowr Symphony pro+PSU on the main power lead, Acoustiv Revive RPT4 distributor + Furutech NCF clearline on digital, battery power on phono. For completeness sake I run my router supported by an Add Powr Eau2 and use Acoustic Revive REM-8 EMI suppressors on all torroidal transformers in the system. Sounds messy? Well it took me over 15 years to fine tune and a whole box of discarded widgets at no small expenseā¦Cleaning up the power is singularly important, hence the need for all the stuff above as well as a total of 6 highgrade linear power supplies serving dac, clock, 2 switches, the router and the Etherregen.
@goofyfootĀ I have a couple of Akiko passive filter in my systems also. I was just relaying what the video summary was.Ā
Scince going to LessLoss Firewire 640X's in my system the rest of the plugin filters are relegated to secondary systems. The LessLoss Firewire products cost much more and do that much more!
@jerryg123Ā I watched the video, thanks. The Akiko requires a significant amount of burn in time. Right out of the box, it's harsh and bright and the graininess is cringe worthy. After a few days, it begins to settle in but it probably needs a full two weeks to perform its best. The Akiko passive power conditioners require an even longer break in period. I'm not proselytizing Akiko but this test wouldn't be capable of testing the Akiko products fairly. Since Akiko and HiFi Cables are the only plugs that I own,Ā I wouldn't know anything about the other companies. I will say that if these other plugs perform at their best right out of the box, that would certainly be an advantage.
I also own a couple of the Isotek EVO 3 units. I think they are designed to remove DC noise. They do do something positive, and they are relatively cheap to try.
@factenĀ If I may, I@nasamanĀ is trying to say it help to eliminate harshness, in the higher frequencies. Not sure how it would. I think this gizmo helps eliminate some DC noise but there is no way it could clock.Ā
Ā
I have not tried one and have DC filtration in place so I have no reason to try one.Ā
