I have a bunch of em and have tried them all over the place. One time watching a movie I moved one from the turntable motor to where the HDMI came out of the laptop. Immediately my wife says, "What did you do!?!?!"
Improved contrast and color saturation, the projected image took on a more natural dimensional appearance. Not cartoony etched like a video store demo under fluorescent lights look, but more like film. I mean real film, not the digital stuff they put on film these days.
So yeah, they work.

I had many, I was not impressed and sold them.

Tried them and heard nada...YMMV
|
I've taken the fuse out of my rp-7 to see what it is and want a purple fuse but I'll be damned I can't make out what it's values are! How do know what's in there?
|
Get in touch with the manufacturer or look in the owners manual
|
As per @rsf507 “ Tried them and heard nada “… A friend brought a handful of these around to try in my system , as he just wasn’t sure! Returned home and got rid of his PDQ

As for the post by MC … 🤣

Majority thumbs down YET....
Carry on.

Can’t complain about those who have actually tried them sharing their experience😉
I’ll know what they do (or don’t do) with my gear soon enough.

Got my set of ECTs in on Monday, and have been enjoying a variety of music since. I ended up putting 3 in my DAC, one on the D/A chip, one near the fuse, and one near the output tube (12AU7). I also put one on my digital cable at the transport side, and one on the wall plug feeding my CPT power conditioner, which all the components are plugged into. The difference is obvious, across the board improvement. They are definitely not going back, and I will likely be getting more in the future.
I have been aware of the ECTs for some time, but kind of dismissed them until recently. Probably because they take a little effort to place and experiment with, and they weren’t the latest greatest tweak, getting a lot of buzz. I now wish I had tried them sooner. To my ears, in my system, they are a great value for the money. If you haven’t tried them, are open minded, and looking for a relatively inexpensive way to take your current system to another level of musical enjoyment, I highly recommend giving them a shot. You can always return them if you don’t get similar results in your system.

What do they do exactly?
I had zero luck with the HFT's. Probably because my room is fully treated. And no impact from an FEQ either.
I have a Wizard coming to try that.
Kinda dig the purple fuse in the preamp (only unit that is fused). I really liked the SHD beeswax fuse but the one I have is way too high a value to continue using.

“What do they do exactly?”
Here's what it says on SR’s website:
“ECTs clean up high frequency noise that otherwise distort harmonic structures within the music signal.”
With 5 in difference places in my system, I hear increased transparency, detail, immediacy, palpability, sense of space, and musicality across the board. You know, all the good stuff we're looking for😉 That may sound over the top, but it is what I am hearing. Will you hear the same in your system? Don't know, you'll have to find that out for yourself.
|
The HFT’s had its qualities, but once I added Stillpoint’s Aperture ll’s to my room I realized that the HFT was sort of a fake sound. The ECT's did nothing with my equipment.
IMHO that is...

“The ECT’s did nothing with my equipment.”
ozzy,
I know you have done many things to reduce all kinds of noise in your system. Maybe one or more of those things already dealt with the noise the ECTs are designed to reduce?

“What do they do exactly?”
“Here's what it says on SR’s website: etc etc etc “
Do they explain the science behind their product claims ?
|
“Do they explain the science behind their product claims?”
Not sure if they do in a way that would satisfy you, I suspect not. You can check for yourself. Like any business involving proprietary technology, I’m sure they have valid reasons for not sharing everything they know. Scientific explanation is interesting, but rather irrelevant compared to the actual results, as far as I’m concerned.
|
tommylion,
All we can do is express our experiences with our equipment. But, we all have different pieces of electronics. If it sounds good to you then don't let me or others influence you.

My wife said the vocals are more intimate, like there’s someone in the room, with the ECTs. So there you have it, from the real authority😉
|
tommylion,
Now is your opportunity to explain to her that even better speakers (or whatever) will really improve on that great sound quality.
See how she comments...

No … i am not surprised that you cannot…

Some will not consider a product because a thorough scientific explanation of how it works is not provided. That’s their right, but, fortunately, scientific explanation is not necessary for anyone to enjoy the benefits of said product.

Ok lets speculate then … How does a thumb nail size cylinder of metal alloy with a void milled into one end elicit Any physical effect upon :
” I ended up putting 3 in my DAC, one on the D/A chip, one near the fuse, and one near the output tube (12AU7). I also put one on my digital cable at the transport side, and one on the wall plug feeding my CPT power conditioner “

I can't recall anyone asking for a thorough explanation, just an explanation that makes at least a little bit of sense. I can't translate word salads.
“ECTs clean up high frequency noise that otherwise distort harmonic structures within the music signal.”
Clean up? Look, I'm sure that audiophiles could cope with something just a little bit more precise than that, surely, after all, see the words that follow.
What aspect of HF "noise" distorts harmonic structures? Is that white noise? Ultrasonic noise >20khz? But its within the music signal, so within the audible range, so strike that.
Its not the science that is proprietary, it is the technology or invention that captures it.
Did Kevin Deal write that blurb?

Much like the HFT's, perhaps the ECT's are negating resonances at specific frequencies. The cancelation may result in a blacker background. It almost seems more rational at an electronic level than the range of frequencies seen by an HFT across your room boundaries. This is why I may be blabbering nonsense because in that theory, wouldn't an HFT need to be substantially larger or is it intended just for the highest of frequencies that influence ambiance?
|
I really have no idea how or why they work, other than what SR says. What I do know is that they most definitely do work in my system. As a consumer/hobbyist what else do I really need to know? If I was a competitor trying to make a similar product, I'd be much more interested in explanation.
|
Just got in another set of ECTs, and they have taken my system to yet another level. They may not have a lot of buzz or current reviews, but they certainly work as advertised in my system, and are a great value for the money.

BugRed,
The x4 is the final unit after the wizard. Ask Bill if he has a used or demo unit.
