Depends on how big the room is (many come in white - REL/Focal/KEF/Gallo).
If you can DIY one in white this would be a fun joke for your wife.

Subwoofer for Raidho XT-1 sadly buried in a console built in?
Ok, you know the deal or you can catch up by reading my other post. Room is reasonably big if you include the whole space, it’s almost a loft type setup with a kitchen and a family room fusing together. There are sonance speakers and a Sonos system that can play through the house and outside so don’t need this system to play for the masses if we have a party. This is more focused best I can on the family room experience. The sub, unless hidden in the wall or buried in the cabinet, has to be white. Yes there are wife issues, if you’re married you can relate. I got clearance for multiple subs if need be, wiring could be an issue. Thanks, Mduff

I have a KEF KC62 sub and it maybe excellent. I do not have too much experience with subs to compare. In a few hours I will getting delivery of the $200 KEF wireless transmitter for the sub. It is supposed to be excellent and it will allow me to only have the single PC going into the sub. The KC62 is small and comes in white and can be placed in a bookshelf (or other locations). I used it on a bookshelf prior to my current room. I plan on trying the sub next on a 28 inch tall stool from HomeDepot. The new KEF KC60 speakers (Baby Blades) gave me the idea of trying this with my KEF LS50 bookshelf speakers. The sub is so small that you have so many placement options.

BTW - your thread on finding bookshelf speakers made me think about my goal of upgrading my 10-year-old KEF LS50s. I am thinking of the following - Yamaha NS3000 (from Canada only) - Paradigm PersonaB - Raidho XT-1 (never heard this one) - TAD ME-1 I was all set on buying the Yamaha NS3000 however last night a great or maybe bad idea came to me and I now want to try this speaker first. They have a 30-day home trial.
This also can work in a bookshelf, though I will use them on stands with my KEF KC62 sub. The reason to try these is that all speakers I have heard (except the KEF Blades) are not as fun as the RAAL SR1a headphone. The speaker listed above also uses a RAAL ribbon and could be a gem.

Look into the Rel Airship wireless steup. Whichever subs you end up choosing, the Airship will make them wireless while also capturing the characteristics of your amplifier. Placement then becomes a breeze. I see in the other thread you’ve selected speakers. Were you able to demo them and are you reasonably certain they will function as desired? Your selected monitors are very "fast" sounding while your amplification presently is anything but. What will the tonal outcome be and what do you need from the sub system.
I would hesitate to procure any subs until you’ve determined what you need. For instance, do you need reinforcement below XXhz or do you require some reinforcement of lower mids. Do you have nodes to contend with (yes, you will, multiple), what acoustic treatments will be necessary and can you address it from a decor and physical standpoint?
Is your amplification appropriate? Its your cart but the cart may be in front of the horse at this stage. |
I had a wisdom scs suitcase sub with a pair of Rockport Technologies Mira Monitors some years back. It was a solid setup. The wisdom sub has the possibility of being installed in a wall, but it will need to be a rather thick wall. I had mine against the wall in white. It was not painful to the eyes. |
@yyzsantabarbara, The Sierra-2EX is a poor design. The problem is that the tweeter is going to convert from point source radiation to line source in the upper midrange depending on the length of the ribbon. Line source speakers are more efficient radiators so, as you move away from the speaker the sound is going to get brighter and brighter. A speaker has to be either line source or point source. It can not be both. The problem is that as frequency drops the speaker has to get taller and taller to maintain it's line source characteristics until it is as tall as the room. Few wives are going to like that. I got lucky. @mduffy18d , If you have any mechanical talent go to Parts Express and check out the subwoofer kits. You can build great subs at 1/3rd the price and have them finished any way you want. The best would be a white polyester lacquer. It will take a pro to do that. |

@mijostyn What are your thoughts on the Quad Z2 ribbon bookshelf. These looks like it can be placed on a bookshelf too, though I would use stands. |
Grin, if you can really buy multiple subs, get four SVS 3000 Micros in white, do a good distributed bass array (DBA) for the low end, and hi-pass the MB-1s with a decent crossover. I think relieving the bookshelves of low bass and adding subs will really make the room will fill up nicely (don't overdo bass, just right...) |
Raidho XT-1 Speakers with Raidho Stands For Sale - US Audio Mart BTW - I received the KEF KWI Wireless Subwoofer Adapter yesterday and I tried it today to see that it does not work. I have a faulty unit and need to get a replacement. If this wireless adapter works, it will be very useful for placement.
