A used krell mk3 will kill all above mentioned players imhop.I have an oppo 95 and it is great sounding but for 1k more the krell beats it in resolution and dynamics..imaging may be slightly better with oppo..I was shocked how good this krell player sounds!

I found Marantz & arcam to be on the warm side

you can spend $2000 on a teac cd-3000.

Pick up a used Lexicon RT-20. Cheap steal.

I 2nd the Esoteric if you have the budget for it.

I'm very satisfied with my Arcam CD37.

I agree with Chuck, the Mod Wright player is an excellent natural sounding choice.

If it is to be an explicitly CD and SACD machine I say look into the Pioneer Elite PD D9 J Mk 1 or Mk 2 players

I had the 1st generation Pioneer Elite PD-D9 and it was great. I only sold it to get an Oppo BDP-83 SE which was pulling double duty for HT and music.

The Arcam CD37 or DV139 are both great players. I use a 139 myself. We also sell the Sony. Although the 5400 is a fine player, I prefer the Arcam, and several of my customers have switched to them also.

Look into one of the used Esoteric players here. You can't go wrong with an Esoteric. I think Spearit Sound (no affiliation) has some B stock units at a very attractive price. I bought an 8,500.00 B stock player from them for 3995.00.

You might consider the Marantz Reference line of SACD players. I have the SA-15S2b and find it to be a very fine, musically satisfying player. An added bonus is that you can get it for new for what I paid
