Yeah this forum "misc-audio", is short for misguided audiophiles.
It just bazar that grown men can be so gullible as to believe in this . They're probably all Scientologist or some weird cult, that one geoffkiat (forever gone) used to belong to that used to be the same here and now these seem to have taken over from him.
@Oregonpapa your fuse will be better with more break-in time. I heard the same sound you describe when I put it in on the other side. I changed the side and everything became more relaxed.
So, two nights ago, I moved the Yellow fuse from the line stage and put it into the phono stage. It seems to be a better match there in my system.
In playing my go-to demo LPs, I’m hearing more inner detail than before. I was concentrating on female vocals and noticed that the ending of words was a lot clearer, enhancing the organic sound of the human voice. The leading edge of guitars, the fading off of notes, and the three-dimensionality of the presentation were enhanced, along with a quieter background. So far, a winner.
The midrange still had that artifact that I didn’t like in the line stage, but not to such a degree. I think what this fuse is doing, is moving the midrange more to a solid-state-like presentation. Don’t get me wrong here, this fuse is really good, but my electronics are already fairly neutral, and I like a touch of tube warmth, so I think it is a matter of taste.
Comparing the QSA Yellow fuse with the SR Orange fuse is a tradeoff. For transparency, lower noise floor, and inner detail, I’d take the QSA Yellow. For midrange warmth and emotional impact, the SR Orange comes out ahead.
A few things to keep in mind here are, first, it is a matter of taste. Second, it is system-dependent. Third, I believe the QSA Yellow fuse still needs more break-in time. At this point, I think it is fair to say that neither fuse will disappoint.
Another QSA Yellow fuse will be arriving any day now. It will go into the amp. Stay tuned.
I might splurge and get some of that new magic "goo" contact enhancer (NPS-1260). Seriously, it’s what? $350 a bottle or so?
That’s not bad if it works as well as people say it does... Of course, at some point, I imagine I’m going to hit the point of diminishing returns.....my system is pretty good, but I’m sure some of you guys have absolutely KILLER setups.
We do the best we can, I guess. It’s a journey, right?
No matter what else has gone on here *ahem*, this has been a pretty enjoyable thread. Thank you, OP, and thanks to those that have discussed QSA and other brands.
"What about the electromagnetic wave that travels from source to load?
" Could you explain that to me? First I ever heard of that. Where did you get the information from, trying to learn here. Thanks BillWojo
PayPal invoice paid. Should have stones next week, Violet and Yellow fuses a week or so after that. I'm assuming the Stones are similar to Krissy's eCards and eMats and so will try them in the usual places around transformers, power supplies, etc. Real curious to hear the different effects.
why don't the manufacturers get on board if the sound improves so dramatically
Same reason that someone can go in and change resistors, capacitors, and wire to much better quality than what the manufacturers used when the product was designed, cost.
Huh, well that is strange. Ozzy had posted saying he wasn't getting response to his emails. So I emailed Mike and got a response and he is sending me a PayPal invoice. Total elapsed time 22 min. Now Ozzy post is gone.
Anyway, just so everyone knows, emailed Mike my order request, the reply was fast and he has the Stones in stock (all 3 versions) and will have to order Violet and Yellow fuses, which could be next week but probably the week after.
Totally expected as they are after all listed as Special Order on the site. tweekgeek.com
Michael has always been responsive to me. Was about ready to order anyway so just emailed him about it. Want to upgrade my Blue in the Blackhawk to Violet, Synergistic Orange in the Herron to QSA Yellow, and getting one set each of the three stones Red, Blue and Clear.
