Problem with my Rose 150 b

I’m having a connectivity issue with my 150 and my iPad which I use to control the Rose. I can be playing music using the Rose App and just start losing the sound which is intermittent and comes and goes. I have the Rose connected to my AT&T router with an AQ pearl ethernet cable that is about 8’ long. I stream mainly Tidal although it happens when using Quobuz also. I have tried unplugging the 150 and restarting it also unplugging the router and rebooting it too. I haven’t reached out to Hifi Rose yet . Anyone have any thoughts. When this thing is working the sound is really nice. One other thing is that I have AT&T fiber which has 1000mbs speed.

If that AQ is a Cat 8 which it may be try swapping it out for a Cat 6 .    I had a problem where my DAC would not achieve digital lock intermittently with my Aurender and Vault 2 when they were both on.

Drop outs , stuttering as it tried to lock on.  Removed a Cat 8 cable from the Aurender and swapped it out for a Cat 5e and problem seems to have gone away

Someone on this forum suggested that was my problem, the metal connector of the Cat 8 can cause grounding issues between components.   I didn't believe it until I finally remembered what he said and swapped that cable

So, my cable is a Cat 7 cable. I did a factory reset and think I may of solved my connectivity problem but I’m not getting any sound from my rose.  Has to be something simple but I don’t know what.

Other sources are working. I’m getting Tidal into the Rose because the meters are moving just nothing coming out. It’s like it’s muted inside. How do I check the output.

I would go into the menu and make sure the appropriate settings are set for either format.   There is also a Roon Volume and an analog Volume setting.   Like you said it’s probably something simple.

I’m using the xlr connections from my 150 to my preamp. I’ve been in the menu and everything looks like it should be playing music. It’s like there is an internal mute somewhere that I can’t find.

Able to try RCA or a digital connection to DAC or something that accepts a digital input?

It might be something they can diagnose remotely and correct.  Good luck.

If the meter is bouncing it’s getting data, and converting it.  Leave it unplugged from power overnight and try in the AM

Did you try controlling it with a different device ?   Maybe a phone ?   Try it’s volume and menu through that

In the rose app,  under setting> In/Out setting "Output" check to make sure the XLR/RCA (analog out) are selected? if they are selected, they will be gold, or at least that is the color on my Galaxy Tab.

Also, on the remote control screen,  make sure that  mute is not on (remote control icon is in the upper right hand corner on the Android app, I assume it is likewise on the IoS app)

Barring either of those, go to the HiFi Rose community and ask for help. The company reps are very responsive genuinely helpful.

My xlr cables are hooked up right and the in and out outputs are enabled. I had volume before the factory reset. Can’t login on the Rose community sight because they haven’t send me a code for a new password.

The Rose Connect software that you use to run the RS150B, either from an Ipad, I Phone, Computer (Mac or PC) or Android tablet or phone. In the upper righthand corner of the applicatin (client), there is an icon that looks like a remote control (will have a green dot next to it if it is connected). If you touch the remote icon, you will come to the remote control page. In the middle of the page, it says your model name/unit name(in my case RS150B). and directly below that in the same text box is a volume slider with the mute button on the far right. If it is muted, that mute button will be highlighted golden brown.

@gphill

I’m sure you have access to their webpage...

I’m using an ONTi Cat8 direct connection with no issues.  No longer using Roon. Qobuz direct sounds great.

So, I’ve got it working. Not sure what I did to get the sound back but it’s there. It was still dropping out though and I decided to try it on the Wi-Fi setting and magically it’s fixed. Don’t know if the sound is as good as it is through the Ethernet cable. I wonder if I have a defective cable? May try another one to see. Thanks for all the help. One thing about this whole thing is that I’m much more familiar with the Rose operating system.

Is this Rose not ready to play nice with Roon??

For the record my 150b works flawlessly with Roon. The connection is cat 7 not 8, through a 75~80' run if that helps with the OP's prb.

Good luck!

Kevin

Rose 150b should play perfectly with Roon. Listening to it now…;) If you see your meters dancing around, one would expect it would be your output that is causing the problem, rather than your network connection. On top of the advice above you might also want to check the gain settings for your analog out (XLR or RCA) which you can select to match your (pre)amplifier.

I have to report in that my problem with connectivity has been figured out. Looks like I had a bad Ethernet cable. After switching to Wi-Fi for my connection everything worked great so I started thinking about what could be causing my connectivity problem and the only thing I could come up with is that I had a bad Ethernet cable. When I bought my Rose I ordered an inexpensive audio quest cable and looking back I was having this problem from the start.  A few days ago I ordered a new cat 6a cable from Blue Jeans cables and after using it for a couple of hours, no dropouts.

I realize there may be some sound quality gain to be had from a better cable, but right now my Rose sounds pretty good.

Sorry for jumping off topic, but interested in what other owners have found to be their preferred digital filter/upsampling settings?
