New Omega E Mat from Perfect Path Technologies

Many of you own or have read of the highly-regarded PPT Omega E Mat, one of Tim Mrock’s revolutionary signal-enhancing accessories. Just prior to his untimely passing, Tim had finished developing a new generation of his Omega mat, soon to be available. Krissy Mrock has asked a few of us to introduce this new mat, here given the working title of The Double Omega.

In distinguishing the Double Omega, we know the original Omega, herein called the single, as a 7.5” by 10”, rather heavy and somewhat pliable mat, a bit more than 1/8” thick and with a vinyl-like feel. One face is glossy white, displaying the PPT logo and Omega name, while the other is black, smooth and magnetized. Sandwiched between these faces is the active material that causes components to reject the EMI that saturates everything in our surroundings. The Double Omega is much the same, with one important difference: the magnetized face has the finely-textured feel of around, say, 220-grit sandpaper. This texture, it is presumed, comprises yet a second active layer of EMI rejection. Presumed—because working details of the Double Omega are not well understood—better yet to know how to apply it.

With the understanding that the single Omega E mats generate field effects from both faces, mats have typically been placed under and over components and vertically over circuit breakers. How you apply the Double Omega will depend on best use and experimentation. In my case, I have removed two single mats, lying side-by-side, from the top of my large Wadia CDP and have replaced those with two Double Omegas. The Wadia is a one-box player that contains a pre-amp, so I wanted that second, strong field effect exerting downward as well as upward. I also have several singles placed underneath, just as before. Going straight to amps, this player is my only source, so I want it fully protected from EMI. Your priorities will differ.

As of this writing, I am only thirty-hours in on placing these Double Omegas, and I can already tell you they are powerful in their prevention of EMI within my digital source. Yet another veil has been lifted—all instruments and voices are even more sorted out in the aural space with new information heard within that space. There is much more decay heard against a new silence behind and between the musicians. I am already so pleased and excited about what the Double Omega E mats are doing. As Krissy told me, Tim was really stoked to have these new mats available. Rather than wait for the the fourteen-day window of improvement, I want to get this intro out so others can relay their experiences sooner.

Frank,

I should have stayed true to my original post.

What you or others hear is one thing, but when you or others make a suggestion, based upon someone else’ thoughts, that’s a big problem.
I assume you were a audio reviewer? If so, you should know better.

I love everyone here, but I have my own opinions, that are based upon listening, then, listening again. I NEVER recommend or suggest anything without an explanation.
Slaw ...

Don't be troubled. I was trying to be helpful. Note that there are several folks posting above that had the same experience that Tim relayed to me.

Please continue reporting on what you are hearing.

Thanks ...

Frank
I'm through trying to justify what I'm hearing verses what I'm suppose to be hearing. A troubling fact was when I asked Frank about his suggestion to take out the Bybee products. When asked, he admitted that he was just reporting what Tim had told him. I only suggest/report on things I've actually tried. BIG difference people.

Anyway, I like what I'm hearing.
I know I'm still early on... just want to express what i'm hearing/feeling....
and that is...there is no coloration with the Omega + E-Mat. It justs adds to what you already have worked hard to achieve. Great! This is seemingly the perfect upgrade.
Exactly one thing I have always tried to convey on any of the PPT products I have added.
It just gives "more".
Sometimes that has been the only way I have known how to describe the effects and changes.

From my layman/logical mind, I find it hard to believe there could be an issue. Especially since the Bybee/High Fidelity/Akiko stuff is passive. Someone please explain?
Frank,
Thanks for your reco of the Erica Morini Tchaikovsky concerto.  Even on youtube, the sound is good.  This is a beautiful feminine interpretation, with accurate, nonshowy dignity.  Even just the opening phrase has simple, lyrical beauty.  I hate the female violinists of today, like Anne Sophie Mutter and Nadja Salerno Sonnenberg, who play like gruff truck drivers.
I would also appreciate anyone’s personal experience as to what they experienced when adding/subtracting the PPT with Bybee/High Fidelity.
Thanks

I noticed nobody had an issue so far with PPT vs. Akiko Audio. ??
I appreciate everyone's response. Since I hear nothing but improvement now, it's hard to see that there is a problem with the PPT stuff vs. the Bybee/High Fidelity.
Hi slaw: My personal experience with other tweaks and Perfect Path Tech products has been that the Bybee video enhancers and Bybee iQSE are no go, however, the Bybee Quantum purifiers are sympatico (I have those installed in the AC of my CD player and distribution box). High Fidelity MC-0.5 are out as well as the Nordost QV2s. The  Add Powr Electraglides are, however, very compatible (designed by Bill who designed the Nordost stuff). Welcome to the PPT experience. I was a skeptic for quite a while myself.
“BTW, one really big test is (and sometimes I don't even realize it when I'm doing it) when I notice that I'm once again tapping my feet or moving my body to the music while listening. There's a lot to be said for that! “ @slaw

  • Your previous suggestion that I might try removing the Bybee products....was that from personal experience? If so, why?

No, only what others have told me, and through conversations I had with Tim Mrock.

Frank

When I installed the Mats I tried to remove the IQSE and it the system worked better.
@slaw

Watch the show.  5:45 PM to ~8:15 PM EST.  The pre- and post-shows can be quite amazing
@docknow ,

I have the first two Big Thief lps, I'm missing out though, on their last two. Thank you for the post!
@slaw

I'll be seeing Aoife (again) tomorrow night (and on 12/7) at the Live from Here show in NYC, from second row center.  You all can watch in real time at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYgjMCcRU5U&feature=youtu.be&utm_campaign=Live+from+Here+Newsletter_20191115&utm_medium=email&utm_source=sfmc_Newsletter&utm_content=They+Might+Be+Giants%2C+Big+Thief%2C+Aoife+O%27Donovan+&+more+%7C+Just+announced%3A+Vagabon=

Other guests will be "They Might be Giants" and "Big Thief"

The show will stream till 10 or 11 PM EST Sunday night, if you can't watch it live.  Personally, I think these shows are history in the making.

Next week, Paul Simon is one of the guests ...

Enjoy,

Frank,

Your previous suggestion that I might try removing the Bybee products....was that from personal experience? If so, why?
@jerrybj,

You're situation is somewhat similar to mine. I'm early on to the PPT stuff but I'd say the 2 Omega + Mats.
I'm very interested in a Double Omega.
The Gate is out of my league (not only the cost, but also the import duties it would attract). Would love one, but not really an option.

Have Akiko Triple AC Power Enhancer, iFi AC iPurifier, Signal Ground Solutions SGS-1 Grounding Box, Akiko Fuse Box Tuning Chip, 3 x Bybee iQSE, 1 x High Fidelity Cables MC-0.5, iFi USB Silencer, among other things.
Just got 3 x SR Orange fuses for my amp and Dac.
A Double Omega I'm thinking for my fuse box?

I know I'm still early on... just want to express what i'm hearing/feeling....
and that is...there is no coloration with the Omega + E-Mat. It justs adds to what you already have worked hard to achieve. Great! This is seemingly the perfect upgrade.
I love my rolling sound room. <3  The cards work well for the small space;  the mats are truly WILD. <3   ;)  More website updates coming shortly, including a tribute to Timmy. <3  <3 Many thanks to everyone that tried the product line!
@thecarpathian,

Wow, not a bad idea? I have a 1991 Ford F-150 (bought new) with an Alpine cd head unit, MB Quart speakers, Alpine amps and huge  outboard capacitors..................hmmm.
I have as a 'chores' vehicle a 2000 Tundra in pristine condition (southern truck, never seen salted roads). Stereo, not so pristine. Replaced the stereo with nothing high end, a Sony double din with a built in 45 watt amp, driving Morel component speakers in front and Morel coax in back. Sounded pretty darn good for around $500 total. Well, I placed a couple e-cards in the cup holder below the head unit. Took a couple of days, but the music is now cleaner, with more detail coming through, and- for lack of a better phrase- it hangs in the air better. It's more immersive...
If you haven't tried them in your vehicle, give it a go. If you don't have any yet, order a couple. These little guys really deliver!
Omega E Mat+ Initial Review:
Going from the E Mat to the E Mat+ proved nothing short of substantial. There's clearly a more precisely shaped soundstage with significantly enhanced detail, reminding me of the old days of transferring 1/2 speed vinyl masters to 15ips reel to reel - but of course without the noise!  And I believe the sound floor has just dropped off a cliff!  Is the coherency also improved?  I now hear more musical definition at very low volumes.
Equipment (partial): Oppo 105 w/ Bybee enhancements, 3 PPT Alpha E Mats, on Still Points.  Jeff Rowland PSU w/ 3 Alpha E Mats, DAC w/Omega E Mat+, Corus Pre w/ Omega E Mat+,  Spectron Musician III Signature Amp w/ Bybee enhancements & Omega E Mat+.  In summary, the Thiel 7.2s are signing like never before!
More experimentation and comments to follow...
Thanks Krissy!
My best, Keith

  • "I notice that I'm once again tapping my feet or moving my body to the music while listening. There's a lot to be said for that!"

Well said, slaw. And to me ... it is what the hobby is all about.

The system has to serve the music. The more veils that are lifted, the closer we get to the music.

What's so interesting to me is how, with certain tweaks, like with upgraded fuses, tube dampeners, PPT products like Omega + E -Mats, Alpha Cards, Total Contact, Stop-Its, and ultimately, The Gate, we can finally forget about "sound," and just enjoy the performances unfolding in front of us.

Quite honestly, it has to be heard to be believed.

Frank
Frank,

For me, I believe I should wait the 2-3 weeks before making any changes. Right now, all I'm experiencing are improvements. I've read where some say their PPT products don't mesh well with others. It's early on but while others' experiences are valid to them within their system/room/hearing/listening biases and so on. they really don't translate to me/my room/system and so on.

BTW, one really big test is (and sometimes I don't even realize it when I'm doing it) when I notice that I'm once again tapping my feet or moving my body to the music while listening. There's a lot to be said for that!
^^^ Hooray!

Welcome to the PPT club, Slaw. :-)

All of these products build upon one another. The Total Contact would be a logical next step, along with the "Stop-Its."

Just as a suggestion, try removing the Bybee items from the system and see what happens.

Frank
......OK, some other positive attributes of the products I already had like, an overall ease of presentation, more natural timbre etc are all still there. Right now, I can't tell how much that is enhanced. One other thing about the lp I'm playing, I could hear, in quiet passages, Aoife's faint breathing that was unheard until now.

So I'm hyped up by what I've heard and what I hope to hear later. I can sure see myself buying some Total Contact in the near future.
I had placed the 2 Omega + mats inside the access door when I first got them but wanted some confirmation. So now they've been installed for 43 hours. I'm wanting to set my base-line here with you guys initially and hopefully any progress will have more meaning.

I have 2 dedicated lines in my listening room. One for the front-end, the other for the amp/s and subs. I have a Hydra 6 on the front-end with a Bybee iQSE inside and an Akiko AC Enhancer plugged into the first outlet on the Hydra. I have a Akiko Phono Enhancer into my TT. On my amp/s and subs, I have a Hydra 4 with a Bybee iQSE inside with an Akiko AC Enhancer plugged into it's first outlet. I have (4) High Fidelity MC.05 on this dedicated line and (5) MC.05 on the front-end dedicated line. I have (2) Bybee iQSE inside my K&K Audio Trio and (2) iQSE inside my SMc amp.

The Bybee & Akiko products are to address EMI as well, so I've experienced what they bring to the table. What I'm hearing today is similar to what I experienced when I installed those products. The biggest difference is the Omega+ Mats treat the entire system. There's my baseline.

Upon hearing the first side of Crooked Still "Shaken By a Low Sound", My Sussurro MkII, (cold), I immediately noticed how much perceived volume I hear at a very low volume setting. I had experienced this with my other products but not at this magnitude.

( I'm going to end here and pick up later....the HVAC guy is here)
I have a nice 65" Sony tv (not oled) that has a very nice picture. Since I placed a mat on the panel door about a week ago, I noticed an enhancement in picture quality, specifically football games (American football, uber!) Wasn't even thinking about it when I noticed a finer detail of the grass. Then the dimensionality of uniform numbers, facial complexions etc... It's like the mat cleaned up the signal "fuzz". Was watching my favorite show "How It's Made" earlier, and it looked practically 3 dimensional. Well done Tim and Krissy, well done! On real footy, Go Man United!!
I have one Plus mat now on the inside of the breaker box door, there is not room in my very old box for 2 mats.
I have another Plus mat on top of my Ayre EX8 amp.
I have an original mat under my Nakamichi ZX7 cassette deck.
Numerous ecards under smaller items, like phono stage, SUT, power block etc.

You are going to like what they bring to the table Slaw!
Very much so!

Welcome to the Mad Matters Club!
Thanks fellows. I have them on the inside of the access door. They fit perfectly. Can't wait!
Slaw ...

I have them resting right against the switches. They fit perfectly inside of the door that leads to the switches. I just put them in there and closed the door.

Once they are put in place, leave them alone. They will continually improve over two-three weeks.

By the way ... I'm really looking forward to the results you attain. Please report back.

Thanks ...

Frank
Slaw, the main point, it seems, is to not remove the outer cover and door of the panel to expose the breakers and wires.  The mats are to be placed on the outside---I have them over the breaker switches and have to leave the door open---not much room there. Or, you can place them over the closed door---or on the inside of the door, space permitting.  Others, please reply, as well.
I received 2 Omega + mats yesterday. I was told the best place for them would be on the inside or on the outside electrical panel door. I noticed on the packaging, it states outside panel only. I was wondering if this statement was for any potential liability issues in case they somehow lost adhesion? Looking forward to listening.
Hi Yoby,
It’s a large player--I have two Omega+ mats on top that fit side by side, not stacked. The improvements in sound are as good as all the GNSC upgrades, and those were really good, at a cost of $3500 quite a few years ago!

:)

Announcement, fellas:

The initial Emat+ release was a short run, still subject to final development. Subsequent mats will have a more finished look and feel on the back surface that will not affect performance.

Thank you for your emails,  texts and phone calls. If I can assist anyone further, feel free to reach out!

Best,
Krissy Mrock
viber6 ...

Erica Morini's Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto on the Westminister label is a truly great performance with excellent sound.

On the mats ... I left the old mats in the circuit breaker box, and then added the two new mats. Admittedly, there was most likely a cumulative effect ... but WOW.

Frank

Hi jafreeman: Do you have two Omega+ mats stacked on top of each other,  or do you have one on top and one underneath your CDP?
So far, people have reported that the Omega+ mats are great, when added to the system already containing the regular mats.  If you remove the originals, the benefits reportedly last awhile, so it is difficult to judge the effect of the new + mat if it is added quickly.  How about waiting the time it takes to lose the benefit of the original, and then add the + mat?
Frank,
I have an LP of Erica Morini playing 1st violin in Beethoven's op 18 no 4 quartet.  Felix Galimir on 2nd violin.  Very passionate.
Meanwhile, seven days in with two Omega+ mats on top of Wadia861SE GNSC, 2006.  Great Scot, these mats are performing miracles!
  • Do you remember that 1967 Turnabout LP of the Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances?
I believe I have a copy.

Do you have any recordings of Erica Morini?

Frank
Frank,
Do you remember that 1967 Turnabout LP of the Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances?  It was a demo LP in audio salons when I got started in 1978.  Last weekend on a radio program called "Rock (Rach) of all ages" they played a set of Ward Marston's compilation of historic recordings, including Rachmaninoff himself playing the piano score of that piece.  Rach was singing along, "la, la, la" which sounds the same in Russian.  The piano arrangement has more musical cohesion than the orchestral version, which sounds more like a sonic showpiece.
I’m glad to hear that but are you sure you posted on the right thread? 😬
geoffkait,
No compression in my recordings.  I dabbled in recording to prove that I could make more immediate, detailed classical recordings than anything available.  I spent a modest amount of money in the right places--mikes, Bryston mike preamp which was the fastest and most natural preamp which I determined by my own tests.
Geoff sez:
>>>>No, actually these drawbacks don’t exist in my SONY WALKMAN 🚶🏻‍♂️CD player because I’ve taken the time to eliminate them with my New Dark Matter, my vibration isolation system and my Mystery Tweak, the latter a CD stabilization tweak that I’ve decided not to sell because then it wouldn’t be a secret any more. 🤫

OK, nice to hear you've tricked out your Walkman---you did mention you have a mat coming---hope you'll tell us what it does for your Walkman.  "It's no longer classified--is it....."

jay23,
Recently I met a young mastering engineer from Bklyn who worked with the renowned Bob Ludwig. He said that at 72, Ludwig had excellent ears and taught the younger proteges what to listen for. It is likely that Ludwig has diminished HF acuity, but he certainly has judgment about what he does hear.

>>>>>At least we know two people to blame the overly aggressive dynamic range compression on.
