Many of you own or have read of the highly-regarded PPT Omega E Mat, one of Tim Mrock’s revolutionary signal-enhancing accessories. Just prior to his untimely passing, Tim had finished developing a new generation of his Omega mat, soon to be available. Krissy Mrock has asked a few of us to introduce this new mat, here given the working title of The Double Omega.
In distinguishing the Double Omega, we know the original Omega, herein called the single, as a 7.5” by 10”, rather heavy and somewhat pliable mat, a bit more than 1/8” thick and with a vinyl-like feel. One face is glossy white, displaying the PPT logo and Omega name, while the other is black, smooth and magnetized. Sandwiched between these faces is the active material that causes components to reject the EMI that saturates everything in our surroundings. The Double Omega is much the same, with one important difference: the magnetized face has the finely-textured feel of around, say, 220-grit sandpaper. This texture, it is presumed, comprises yet a second active layer of EMI rejection. Presumed—because working details of the Double Omega are not well understood—better yet to know how to apply it.
With the understanding that the single Omega E mats generate field effects from both faces, mats have typically been placed under and over components and vertically over circuit breakers. How you apply the Double Omega will depend on best use and experimentation. In my case, I have removed two single mats, lying side-by-side, from the top of my large Wadia CDP and have replaced those with two Double Omegas. The Wadia is a one-box player that contains a pre-amp, so I wanted that second, strong field effect exerting downward as well as upward. I also have several singles placed underneath, just as before. Going straight to amps, this player is my only source, so I want it fully protected from EMI. Your priorities will differ.
As of this writing, I am only thirty-hours in on placing these Double Omegas, and I can already tell you they are powerful in their prevention of EMI within my digital source. Yet another veil has been lifted—all instruments and voices are even more sorted out in the aural space with new information heard within that space. There is much more decay heard against a new silence behind and between the musicians. I am already so pleased and excited about what the Double Omega E mats are doing. As Krissy told me, Tim was really stoked to have these new mats available. Rather than wait for the the fourteen-day window of improvement, I want to get this intro out so others can relay their experiences sooner.
As I have said many times in the past I find it hard to truly describe the effects but have settled on just one description.
It's just " more" .
More of everything that was very good to begin with. My CD player is now sulking in the corner though as analog playback is just so pleasurable right now I am flipping albums or tapes all day/ night long.
Oh listening sessions can be HOURS long as there is just no grain or etch or hardness to fatigue me. Just old age and falling asleep causes game over nowadays....
Okay, admittedly some of my posts, perhaps many, would seem to have been over the top to the uninitiated. I understand that. No big deal for me.
I just got off the phone with another A’goner who has the whole PPT kibosh ... The Gate, TC, Mats, Stop-Its, etc.
We were discussing the effects that the new Omega *Plus* mats have, and the benefits they bring to the system over the original Omega mats. We both agreed on the same things.
The Omega *Plus* mats bring a fuller, more organic sound to the instruments. It is hard to describe, because one wants to use terms like tubes vs solid-state, digital vs vinyl, but that really isn’t it either.
Everything seems fuller in the presentation and a lot more natural, like you’re listening to instruments that are real. I’m including vocals in this too. I want to say that its a "warmer" sound, but that’s not it. That suggests a coloration .. and these mats do not color the sound.
Even though there’s more detail and everything is faster, there is no longer a thought about those HiFi terms. I’ve said it before, with the use of these products, and then with the addition of the new mats, it really is like a real musical performance unfolding before you.
The clarity is amazing. It is truly surprising how much grunge we have been feeding our electronics through dirty AC lines. You don’t know it is there until it is gone.
With a 90-day return policy, what do you have to lose? Give it a try.
Descriptions in this thread went over what I usually see in cable and fuse threads. They did seem like people were competing in who will say nicer things with not many, if any, doubting it. Hardly a case in those other threads.
My fault is that I read only recent responses without full original post which clearly states it is an advertising attempt.
Pure advertising at its finest, sorry but have to call it as I see it.
No joke, glupson. The systems are quite good--it's the RFI that corrupts the signal. The Omega mats are helping good systems perform as they should. You can believe our findings by taking a leap of faith. We hope you will try a few mats. What comprises your system, if I may ask?
Actually, my stereo sounded quite good, now it sounds better, no joking. And I was the biggest naysayer of them all if you go way back to the TC thread. And I don’t mean skeptical, I mean I was a jerk about it, speaking from a position of ignorance since I never tried any product. If you put the mats on your breaker box, it somehow ’cleans’ up the power, like a whole house conditioner. I’m not touting earth shattering for me personally, but a definite and undeniably positive effect, on my tv picture also. I definitively understand the skepticism, but the PPT products really do work, and they come with a 90 day return policy.
Alright. Doing a little test. Took the Omega E+ mats out and away from the system night before last. Giving it until tomorrow night to lose any residual effects from them, then will have a listening session to see if I can hear a difference. Will report back with results. Should be interesting...
Hey Joe, the oldest painted panel is a decade old. Over the years we painted the panels of several store fronts, homes; heck, :) he even set up at a hobby convention. lol. Go green and save green! LOL. He was the ultimate salesman, my love. There are a few people here on Audiogon who were the very first to try --- if you PM me, I'll let you know who they are. Love, Krissy
c avian, I can say my system's sound has not diminished in the 17 months I have had them in. I took out an older one for my DVD player---the picture has more depth and color.
Krissy Mrock of PPT may have some information on service life of the Omega mats and her other signal-enhancing products.
Yes viber6, what I mean is, there is more information heard. A single sound that may have stood out before is now not as prominent--the presentation is more balanced.
Some members have reported in this thread that some plug-in devices containing magnets reduce the effectiveness of the mats.
How is it possible for magnets to effect the working of the mats? The back of the mats are already magnets, and Tim (if I remember correctly), said the magnetic backing has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the mats. Just curious.
No returns so far that I know of. Krissy says the same. It can't be the poster's system. Atmosphere electronics are excellent. Who knows? ... Only the Shadow knows. :-)
A friend lent me 3 of the original E Matt's over 6 weeks ago. Placed 2 on my electrical box and another under CD player. I "think" I hear small improvements but not night and day as many seem to say. I'd probably buy if used ones show up on the market but either everyone keeps them or are returned for a refund for I've yet to see any for sale.
Nothing is rounded off. All of the detail remains in place, plus more.
There is a more relaxed presentation to the music and a richer tone quality. The three-dimensional image is much improved. You can see more into the performance, which will have more separation between musicians and vocalists.
Now, this may sound like the description of euphonic tubes doing their thing, but it is not. It is more like the rich organic sound of real musical instruments playing for you instead of a thinner HiFi artificial plastic sound that was there before. Everything just sounds more real.
Once you have the E-Mats in place, leave them there. They improve with a little time on them.
Glad you're enjoying the recordings. I listened to that Arthur Lyman CD last night for the first time since installing the two Omega "Plus" mats into the circuit breaker box. It was like hearing it for the first time. The percussion instruments were right there. Unbelievably good.
jafreeman, You said this about day 12 of the + mat, "they are now overtaken by a richness of low and midrange overtones, newly blossomed out of what seemed like a formerly stark presentation." I am interested in a crisp, detailed sound which is natural and coherent, the way the real thing is. This quote suggests that you now have a rounded, euphonic sound, the opposite of what I am seeking. Are the highs now subdued in favor of more low and midrange freq?
Hi, darrell. I had mine on top of the speaker cables amp side. When was the last time you ordered from a company and with the order they sent along free 'bonus' goodies??! For me, only PPT. Speaks volumes about the company and the generosity of Tim and Krissy...
OK, the 2 Emat + I ordered arrived today, as well as some Total Contact and Krissy sent some Alpha E cards to try. I placed one Emat + in the main panel and the other in the sub panel feeding my music area. The TC I will use to coat the inside of my power conditioner. Those of you with experience, where would you suggest I place the Alpha E cards? Thanks in advance. BTW, I took the 2 MC-.5 helixes out of the circuit based upon the experiences shared here.
Listening to day twelve of two Omega+ mats on top of CP player, but I did not listen to my system on days 8 through 11. The music gets better by the day, and those of you who know this can imagine what a four-day layoff brings. Everything I put on sounds like a newly-issued remaster--some songs are so changed in character, they almost sound like different versions. You know, when you listen for familiar "landmarks" that stand out in the soundscape---they are now overtaken by a richness of low and midrange overtones, newly blossomed out of what seemed like a formerly stark presentation. And there are newly-distinct solo instruments that jump out of the margins of the soundstage. And I'm listening to Arthur Lyman, "Taboo 2", a mix from his many records from the 50's and 60's that popularized the Polynesian sound, full of exotic percussion, bird cries and vibes. Look up his bio and three-dimensional recording techniques, achieved naturally--his music was featured in stereo demonstrations of the day. I just received a veritable library of CDs in the mail today from Frank, who recorded and catalogued them for me from his collection. Thank you, Frank, for this historic collection of music!
I added two Omega+ mats on the outside of my power panel last night. This was in addition to two original Omegas already there. I am hearing, and really enjoying, the benefits tonight. I simply added the +s, and did not try to do a controlled comparison between them and the originals. I do feel that the +s offer substantial improvement over the originals (good as they are), though.
I am on my third day after adding 6 more Stop-its to existing 7, and 2 Emat + to 6 existing Emats and PPT treated system. Hard to believe the improvement across the board.
I have listened to " Kind of Blue" many times, one of my favorites! Today I finally HEARD it.
I must say that I did try to reintroduce the Bybee’s recently since your post on that subject. I found that the soundstage became more congested and flatter. Then after removing the Bybee’s and just using the Omega mats everything returned to a more calmer, deeper and much more enjoyable soundstage.
So, yeah, I do not think the Bybee’s work well with the Omega matts. I also found previously that the MC-.05’s also did not complement the matts. IMHO.
BTW, I am still pondering whether to add 2 more regular Omega matts to the 2 already in my breaker box or to try the newer E mat+ albeit at twice the price.
geoffkait, For over a year, I have been concerned about the medical ill effects of environmental RFI/EMI. I bought the esi24 meter from lessEMF.com, which measures environmental low freq electrical, magnetic, and RF. I found that I get better sleep in low RF rooms vs high RF rooms. About 5% of the general population is affected clinically by high RF, but on a subliminal level, there are ill effects on cellular function, which impact risks of all diseases.
Someone would have to measure RF in electrical wiring of outlets and components to see if these PPT products can be measured. Meanwhile, some people here have noted that the PPT makes the sound uniformly wonderful at all times of the day/night. Without power conditioning advices, many of us have noted marked variations according to time of day. It is often still unpredictable, depending on what's going on locally. We are guessing that the sound quality varies according to levels of RFI, but it would be nice to verify with electrical RFI measurements.
Thank you. And thank you. I have 2 MC-0.5 helixes on my main line feeding the PC and will have 2 Emat + arriving this week. Just wanted to get a sense of what to expect.
+1 tommylion. Welcome darellczay! Upon removing the High Fidelity MC-0.5s from my system the was a slight improvement in the sound ( a more open, less "dull" presentation). The improvement continued for the next 3-4 days as the MC-0.5s leave a residual magnetic effect in house wiring.
"Hi, I'm new here. @oregonpapa, have you noticed a "conflict" between the PPT stuff and the High Fidelity MC's in your system?"
I can't answer the question because I've never used any HF products. However, I think there are others posting here who can help you. Maybe they will chime in.
I had 6 Bybee iQSEs and one High Fidelity Cables MC-0.5 in my system, along with Omega Mats and TC. The sound improved when I removed the IQSEs and MC-0.5. You may get a different result, but the only way to find out for sure is to try it yourself.
Looking at your system, I see you have attacked AC line noise and vibration to the Nth degree---really impressive stuff and gear. Yeah, these Omega mats are a huge leap forward, but since you've put them far from your system, there's no reason to take things out that you know are good. If you were to do anything next with PPT right at your components, the Total Contact would be a great complement at your plug, pin, spade connections. I started with Total Contact and was so impressed, I kept commenting in general that, no matter what we have in high-quality gold and rhodium connections, they are not enough--after applying Total Contact to all of the above, I regard any plugged connection, necessary as they are, as a problem area.
Following my own experience, these PPT products have a cumulative effect. I think you will like what the Total Contact and the Stop-Its will do for your system.
