My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!

So I have been in a long journey looking to find the best amplifiers for my martin logan montis. As you know, the match between an amplifier and speakers has to be a good "marriage" and needs to be blend exquisitely. Right now, I think I might have found the best sounding amplifier for martin logan. I have gone through approximately 34-36 amplifiers in the past 12 months. Some of these are:

Bryston ST, SST, SST2 series
NAD M25
PARASOUND HALO
PARASOUND CLASSIC
KRELL TAS
KRELL KAV 500
KRELL CHORUS
ROTEL RMB 1095
CLASSE CT 5300
CLASSE CA 2200
CLASSE CA 5200
MCINTOSH MC 205
CARY AUDIO CINEMA 7
OUTLAW AUDIO 755
LEXICON RX7
PASS LABS XA 30.8
BUTLER AUDIO 5150
ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005

With all that said, the amplifiers I mentioned above are the ones that in my opinion are worth mentioning. To make a long story short, there is NO 5 CHANNEL POWER AMP that sounds as good as a 3ch and 2ch amplifier combination. i have done both experiments and the truth is that YOU DO lose details and more channel separation, etc when you select a 5 channel power amplifier of any manufacturer.
My recollection of what each amp sounded like is as follows:

ATI SIGNATURE SERIES 6005 (great power and amazing soundstage. Very low noise floor, BUT this amplifiers NEEDS TO BE cranked up in order to fully enjoy it. If you like listening at low volume levels or somewhat moderate, you are wasting your time here. This amp won’t sound any different than many other brands out there at this volume. The bass is great, good highs although they are a bit bright for my taste)

NAD M25 (very smooth, powerful, but somewhat thin sounding as far as bass goes)
Bryston sst2(detailed, good soundstage, good power, but can be a little forward with certain speakers which could make them ear fatiguing at loud volumes)

Krell (fast sounding, nice bass attack, nice highs, but some detail does get lost with certain speakers)

rotel (good amp for the money, but too bright in my opinion)

cary audio (good sound overall, very musical, but it didn’t have enough oomph)

parasound halo (good detail, great bass, but it still holds back some background detail that i can hear in others)

lexicon (very laid back and smooth. huge power, but if you like more detail or crisper highs, this amp will disappoint you)

McIntosh mc205 (probably the worst multichannel amp given its price point. it was too thin sounding, had detail but lacked bass.

butler audio (good amplifier. very warm and smooth sweet sounding. i think for the money, this is a better amp than the parasound a51)

pass labs (very VERY musical with excellent bass control. You can listen to this for hours and hours without getting ear fatigue. however, it DOES NOT do well in home theater applications if all you have is a 2 channel set up for movies. The midrange gets somewhat "muddy" or very weak sounding that you find yourself trying to turn it up.

classe audio (best amplifier for multi channel applications. i simply COULDNT FIND a better multi channel amplifier PERIOD. IT has amazing smoothness, amazing power and good bass control although i would say krell has much better bass control)

Update: The reviews above were done in January 2015. Below is my newest update as of October 2016:

PS AUDIO BHK 300 MONOBLOCKS: Amazing amps. Tons of detail and really amazing midrange. the bass is amazing too, but the one thing i will say is that those of you with speakers efficiency of 87db and below you will not have all the "loudness" that you may want from time to time. These amps go into protection mode when using a speaker such as the Salon, but only at very loud levels. Maybe 97db and above. If you don’t listen to extreme crazy levels, these amps will please you in every way.

Plinius Odeon 7 channel amp: This is THE BEST multichannel amp i have ever owned. Far , but FAR SUPERIOR to any other multichannel amp i have owned. In my opinion it destroyed all of the multichannel amps i mentioned above and below. The Odeon is an amp that is in a different tier group and it is in a league of its own. Amazing bass, treble and it made my center channel sound more articulate than ever before. The voices where never scrambled with the action scenes. It just separated everything very nicely.

Theta Dreadnaught D: Good detailed amp. Looks very elegant, has a pleasant sound, but i found it a tad too bright for my taste. I thought it was also somewhat "thin" sounding lacking body to the music. could be that it is because it is class d?

Krell Duo 300: Good amp. Nice and detailed with enough power to handle most speakers out there. I found that it does have a very nice "3d" sound through my electrostatics. Nothing to fault here on this amp.
Mark Levinson 532H: Great 2 channel amp. Lots of detail, amazing midrange which is what Mark Levinson is known for. It sounds very holographic and will please those of you looking for more detail and a better midrange. As far as bass, it is there, but it is not going to give you the slam of a pass labs 350.5 or JC1s for example. It is great for those that appreciate classical music, instrumental, etc, but not those of you who love tons of deep bass.

 It is articulate sounding too
Krell 7200: Plenty of detail and enough power for most people. i found that my rear speakers contained more information after installed this amp. One thing that i hated is that you must use xlr cables with this amp or else you lose most of its sound performance when using RCA’s.

Krell 402e: Great amp. Very powerful and will handle any speaker you wish. Power is incredible and with great detail. That said, i didn’t get all the bass that most reviewers mentioned. I thought it was "ok" in regards to bass. It was there, but it didn’t slam me to my listening chair.

Bryston 4B3: Good amp with a complete sound. I think this amp is more laid back than the SST2 version. I think those of you who found the SST2 version of this amp a little too forward with your speakers will definitely benefit from this amp’s warmth. Bryston has gone towards the "warm" side in my opinion with their new SST3 series. As always, they are built like tanks. I wouldn’t call this amp tube-like, but rather closer to what the classe audio delta 2 series sound like which is on the warm side of things.

Parasound JC1s: Good powerful amps. Amazing low end punch (far superior bass than the 402e). This amp is the amp that i consider complete from top to bottom in regards to sound. Nothing is lacking other than perhaps a nicer chassis. Parasound needs to rework their external appearance when they introduce new amps. This amp would sell much more if it had a revised external appearance because the sound is a great bang for the money. It made my 800 Nautilus scream and slam. Again, amazing low end punch.

Simaudio W7: Good detailed amp. This amp reminds me a lot of the Mark Levinson 532h. Great detail and very articulate. I think this amp will go well with bookshelves that are ported in order to compensate for what it lacks when it comes to the bass. That doesn’t mean it has no bass, but when it is no Parasound JC1 either.
Pass labs 350.5: Wow, where do i begin? maybe my first time around with the xa30.8 wasn’t as special as it was with this monster 350.5. It is just SPECTACULAR sounding with my electrostatics. The bass was THE BEST BASS i have ever heard from ANY amp period. The only amp that comes close would be the jC1s. It made me check my settings to make sure the bass was not boosted and kept making my jaw drop each time i heard it. It totally destroyed the krell 402e in every regard. The krell sounded too "flat" when compared to this amp. This amp had amazing mirange with great detail up top. In my opinion, this amp is the best bang for the money. i loved this amp so much that i ended up buying the amp that follows below.

Pass labs 250.8: What can i say here. This is THE BEST STEREO AMP i have ever heard. This amp destroys all the amps i have listed above today to include the pass labs 350.5. It is a refined 350.5 amp. It has more 3d sound which is something the 350.5 lacked. It has a level of detail that i really have never experienced before and the bass was amazing as well. I really thought it was the most complete power amplifier i have ever heard HANDS DOWN. To me, this is a benchmark of an amplifier. This is the amp that others should be judged by. NOTHING is lacking and right now it is the #1 amplifier that i have ever owned.

My current amps are Mcintosh MC601s: i decided to give these 601s a try and they don’t disappoint. They have great detail, HUGE soundstage, MASSIVE power and great midrange/highs. The bass is great, but it is no pass labs 250.8 or 350.5. As far as looks, these are the best looking amps i have ever owned. No contest there. i gotta be honest with you all, i never bought mcintosh monos before because i wasn’t really "wowed" by the mc452, but it could have been also because at that time i was using a processor as a preamp which i no longer do. Today, i own the Mcintosh C1100 2 chassis tube preamp which sounds unbelievable. All the amps i just described above have been amps that i auditioned with the C1100 as a preamp. The MC601s sound great without a doubt, but i will say that if you are looking for THE BEST sound for the money, these would not be it. However, Mcintosh remains UNMATCHED when it comes to looks and also resale value. Every other amp above depreciates much faster than Mcintosh.

That said, my future purchase (when i can find a steal of a deal) will be the Pass labs 350.8. I am tempted to make a preliminary statement which is that i feel this amp could be THE BEST stereo amp under 30k dollars. Again, i will be able to say more and confirm once i own it. I hope this update can help you all in your buying decisions!

jays_audio_lab
Less clarity and warmer than neutral is what WC said about #1. Though #1 did win 6 or 7 of the categories (can’t recall exactly how many dcs won, but to me personally (only my preferences, not saying those are absolute : ) those 3 or 4 were the most important so I felt good with what WC told us and my choice, especially given cost difference between dacs)
chazzzy007,
Like kren0006, I also used headphones.  Be careful with turning assumptions into conclusions.
And, kren0006 made an interesting point that viber6 preferred #1, which had less clarity according to WC.
Dave
Thank you.
Some people will hear what i heard and some won't and that is because there SO MANY variables in the mix. It's difficult to always nail it with what i heard in my room.
Jay
Interesting that what you describe between both DAC's is what i heard via YT. What is interesting is that your YT videos are that good that i'am able to evaluate  the DAC's to such a level.

Maybe i had an edge as i'm familiar with the Wilson speakers and MSB DAC and  together they produce a sound that i enjoy and there was a familiarity and comfort to the sound. The sound must have been amazing in the room to feel and hear air turn into music.

I would like the Wilsons to stay for awhile we know the sound and it would benefit us in evaluating new electronics brought into the room, it would give us a baseline.

Great work!
Uh, I do listen on a good headphone system : )

Viber actually has a conundrum, because WC was clear that #2 had better clarity, Viber’s North Star, yet Viber chose #1, which WC also described as "warmer than neutral". I guess maybe because it had better high frequencies, per WC’s video comments - that could make sense I guess for his choice? I dunno, don’t want to speak for him. I also thought, as I commented on, that #2 had better clarity even throughout the blind tests. Not that either choice is wrong, of course, both great dacs
"I think the Youtube limitations maybe constrain all of us on what we can hear in the videos (kinda goes without saying)."

"WC,
Interesting results - shows that our listening on youtube is definitely different than what you are hearing in the room."

Kren and Zaks,
It’s not YouTube that’s the bottleneck in what you are hearing, it’s the system you both are listening on. That’s one of the reaons Jay keeps asking you all to listen on headphones as well.

Look at Viber’s comments.
He’s 96 3/4 years old and still heard what Jay did.

Go back and look at my notes on all 3 sessions. They were precisely the same as Jay’s.

But that's also the reason we are here. To learn how to optimize each of our systems. 🙂
Great speakers. Those are killer sounding pieces. I loved them when i heard them at Suncoast Audio. I almost bought them too!
Interesting shootout and results, Jay. I'd say the videos were harder to judge over the internet than in person when you stated your preferences in different sound areas. I know I didn't prefer the same cut on each dac for all 3 videos.

I upgraded to MSB Ref from Premier to come along with my new Fyne F1-12s. I'm curious how big the upgrade it will be. If not, my dealer will get a mouth full :) My justification was with high efficient speakers, the amp requirements open up a lot of lower priced alternatives so I could spend more on source.

Jay, I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to give you some good advice on your journey. I'm not talking about setting fire or criticizing.

I am an acoustic engineer and the acoustic treatment you are doing with the Vicoustic panels is very insufficient given the high level of sound equipment it has and its astronomical economic power.

Take my advice and hire a good acoustic consultancy that has built many recording studios and rebuilds your listening room. It is the best investment you can make.

(English is not my mother tongue so I hope the translation is well understood.)
Anyone else compared Chord DAVE to Bartok?  Thanks to all.
I haven't listened to Dave, but I have had the Chord TT2 and previously the Chord Qutest. Now I have a Bartok. The differences between these two brands are stark.
The chord sound is very sharp, fast, and for me it has the best soundstage of all the dacs I have heard. The problem with Chord is that it can sound a bit thin and clinical. Instead, the Bartok is a more natural sound, full, with more weight and impact. It sounds more "meat on the bone", but it doesn't have Chord's 3D soundstage, which is more realistic and deep.
Without having heard the Rossini, I can say that the Bartok is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It has everything in one box and can be updated with an external clock.
I hope it helps you.
WC, in video you said DCS sounded cooler than neutral and MSB sounded warmer than neutral.

Was that with the silver cable bullets?

Does DCS still sound cooler than neutral with the gold bullets, or straight up neutral? Does MSB sound warmer yet with gold than with the silver?
I think any brightness associated with the shootout was probably due to the silver bullets from synergistic Research. Yesterday i switched to gold bullets and it's sounding great
I agree with you Dave. I heard #2 sounding warmer, richer and more refined than #1 as did most people that voted. Of course YouTube has limitations that restrict us from hearing soundstage and dynamics etc....I think the only thing we can really hear on these videos is tonality, and maybe not even that. Kind of makes me wonder about future videos and what is really being heard in the room....nothing like being there.
Both dacs will remain and 2 power amplifiers will leave instead. Dac is more important if i am going to keep moving through speakers in the future. It is harder for me to acquire these 2 dacs than it is to get a power amp. Each time a current DCS or MSB model is listed, it is sold quickly.
If i sold either one of these dacs and wanted to bring them back, it would cost me too much money.
This has been a great conversation with regards to DACs. If ANY OF YOU have a dac you want to send me and would like to compare to either one of these 2 dacs, you all know how to find me. I won’t be buying a cheap dac in order to start comparing again so before that comment is thrown in here, let me squash it.
You want your dac to go to battle against MSB OR DCS and see how it performs? then let’s make that happen for the whole world to see...
Many people talk about EMM, Esoteric, Soulution, and many other DACs i can't think of right now, i am open and willing to give them a fair shot in here.

Jay,
Thanks for your analysis.  I had many of the same observations as you, although on my iMac, I can't evaluate soundstage and imaging.  As far as bang for the buck, Bartok and Chord DAVE would make a good comparison.  Someone here (I think 4425 a year or two ago) found the Bartok just about identical in sound to the Rossini.  I know you had the DAVE a while ago.  How would you compare DAVE to Rossini (I don't know if you had the Bartok) using your criteria?

Anyone else compared Chord DAVE to Bartok?  Thanks to all.
WC,
Interesting results - shows that our listening on youtube is definitely different than what you are hearing in the room.  Interesting that you mention the MSB to be warmer, yet folks feel the YT presentation showed the MSB to be brighter.   I think this is why it's so important to get the video with your opinion of what's happening in the room.
Even though MSB won most of the categories, I will agree with Kren's previous prediction that the DCS is what will eventually remain.

Dave
Good video WC.  The "neither dac" line was pretty funny.

I think the Youtube limitations maybe constrain all of us on what we can hear in the videos (kinda goes without saying). For me, I think I focus most on tonality and dynamics in the videos, as I find them most important, plus clarity, and interestingly you gave all 3 of those wins to dcs. Well come to think of it maybe you didn’t have a "tonality" category but closest I’ll equate that to of that categories you did describe is your "mids" category, which you gave to dcs.

Most of the stuff that is less apparent via YT versus in the room was won by msb according to you.

Anyway, thanks much for the content
Ok, the time has come to find out my impressions from inside the room and to finally know which presentation was which.
On this video i will go over 10 categories plus find out which dac i preferred!
The video is dropping today at 11am ET.
Funny.
Nah, I’d probably be the drunkest one at the party, and eventually challenge WC to arm wrestling. He’d oblige and rather than destroy me just let me flounder for 10 minutes in agony before finally dropping the hammer. I’m ok with that because I’d correctly predicted no way WC beats me in under a minute.

Mr decibel would appear and contend he can’t learn anything from the way we party.

Riaa would make fun of those drinking cheaper beers, and talk about his stash of beers that he’ll drink one day.

Viber just wants to talk about the theory of home brewing, and halfway seems to know what he’s talking about, but on further questioning reveals he’s never made a batch.

Inna is pissed about WC’s TV, not big enough or vivid enough. And vandalizes all of WC’s Pass Labs gear.

Thezaks parties along but late in the evening calls in a noise complaint.

Ron and pokey and chazzy are like I can’t believe we hang out with all these weirdos, but at least we’re not like them.

The music is just an endless loop of Liberty, Man in the Moon, and Death Row, and nobody really thinks that’s strange.

There’s a hundred people we remember seeing before but can’t really place, and another thousand who we’ve never seen before.

Tha Rossini direct sounds quite good Jay.
If a few of us lived near you there would be steak barbecues and beer every couple weeks with late night sessions of music.

Viber would bring his favorite violin and scoff at at how lucky you all are to hear him play live for free. Ricevs would secretly try to put mods on your gear without you knowing. He would then ask you trick questions to see if you heard the difference. If you couldn't he would open up his very first Audiogon thread just to mock your hearing. Viber would then offer to teach you how to hear better. Kren would be pissed all night because Viber would eventually get too drunk to argue back with him. Kren would get even more pissed because all the chick's would think Viber must be some famous old dood who plays with Hanz Zimmer. Faxer would try to put food in his Hoodie pockets to take home and in between sessions secretly hand out flyers for his dealers next sale.

Good times.
Here's to blumartini and Almarq!

🍻🍻🍻

Pokey,
The Puritan Labs 156 is much superior to plugging into the wall. My system is dead silent with no drop in soundstage thru either 2 channel or 5.1 HT.

You live local to me.
One day you can drop by and take a listen.
Right now I'm looking for a new place so I'm pretty much only using my headphone system while I'm looking and kinda sorta semi packing stuff.
@jays_audio_lab

I agree with your comment that it is nice to have fun conversations. Just wish the one that can't help themselves would also contribute in the same way. No rebuke necessary.

And for those that can't seem to join in the fun, they can always change the channel. No one making them keep coming back.
Jay, you're right.  I forgot that the gold bullets in SR tone down the HF compared to silver.  But mikes may still be the biggest factor, so you will want to make recordings with each mike to see.  Adjust the volumes for each mike, because like speakers, they have different outputs or efficiencies.  I don't know whether the mike preamp in the phone compensates for different mike voltage inputs.  You have to make recordings and listen, sometimes a tedious process, but fun and worth the effort in my experience.  This would make a great A/B for YT, along with your comments later.  Nobody here knows the relative characteristics of the mikes, so it would be a completely unbiased exercise, even more unbiased compared to the dac shootout, because many people knew and read about DCS vs MSB.  Again, I doubt whether this has ever been done on YT--another attraction for you.
Well someone took my advice. One down! Many more to go!
I feel like i have accomplished something good here!
Now your next move is going to cost you another 30k on top for the next dac...this has been my point here.
Trying to keep up here whew. Definitely a lot of back and forth from the shootouts here and that’s a good thing.
Re: the Taiko Extreme. Single best improvement in my system, in large part because it continues to get better and better. Yes, expensive and steep barrier to entry. As Jay has mentioned, since the initial model, they created their own software to replace Roon etc that is less noisy, improved their USB drivers and rolled out improved USB cards. I initially ran an expensive switch on its own LPS which boosted the SQ notably with the Extreme. Today that switch provides negligible if any improvement. Basic UTP copper ethernet is now the preferred connection directly to it. Further, the gap in SQ between streaming Qobuz and the same files saved on the Extreme local drive is slim at best. I think it is the cutting edge of streaming digital and they are not done yet. I’m not biased lol

I too agree on the tradeoff on DACs in my experience. I was running say a $13k DAC with the Extreme and went to $30k. Feels strange to disclose figures, but that’s what they were. I am happy with the improvement but that tradeoff I feel to be in the tapering part of the curve.

Jay, it’s a $20 cable I already posted the like to. If you had a laptop, you could plug it directly into your DAC and hear what things sound like with your own system. I go directly into an MSB DAC, to Wilson Audio Speakers.

The previous mic didn't sound like this at all. Yes, the new mic has better bottom end, but worst top end.

Just keeping it real.
@kren
Yes i agree with you.
That said, today has been the revelation that i needed. The hot tweeter is or was due to the silver bullets from synergistic Research. The antileon Evo made this easily heard. I will now only use the gold ones. I'm shocked that even the DAc straight into the amp didn't give me fatigue when using gold bullets on the cables.
golfnutz,
Many of these pop recordings are drastically boosted in the upper midrange and HF.  A big market is the teenage kids with their inferior speakers, who love to crank the HF for pizzazz.  The engineers seek to please the teenagers.  When heard on the XLF, these recordings have the obvious excessive sibilants.  Still, the XLF may have some HF emphasis compared to other Wilson top speakers like the Chronosonic.  We compared the same song on the Alexx and found that XLF has more HF.  While Jay was waiting to get 5K subscribers before the dac shootout began, I posted a superb video of Peter McGrath presenting the flagship Master Chronosonic on different types of music.  The last selection was a classical recording which drew awe and respectful applause from the people who heard it.  Classical recordings are usually recorded more naturally, and singers don't have that excessive sibilance on these recordings on great speakers.

That said, we don't know if the new mike has more HF emphasis than the old mike.  Jay said the Antileon is darker than the Essence.  Dac direct without preamp will have more sibilance than with preamp.  Only Jay can do his A/B mike tests and find out whether the new mike is the culprit.  Most likely, the XLF is revealing the truth about the recording.  Still, mikes are like speakers as transducers, and can drastically affect the recorded sound.
@golfnutz:

What is your set up? What are you using to listen to the videos? Maybe i need to buy the same so i can hear things closer.
WC I dunno about the channel views but on this thread I feel like the dac shootout got more people to actually offer their opinions here on the sound than almost anything you’ve done yet on the channel.

Maybe because it so different from anything you’ve done and using arguably top two brands
Ricred you are right whole hobby is stupid expensive. Almost like there is incentive for manufacturers to price things ever higher on basis of that leading to yet higher demand, opposite of most industries
@golfnutz:
Thanks man. Noted. I appreciate the feedback. I should try a few more songs and see ? Maybe i was blasting it too much so you all can get some bass 😂

Jay, I know the CD very well. Yes, some songs on that CD are hot, but that song isn’t one of the worse ones.
I made a comment previously about the same issue, and since I was the only person who had something negative about the mic, I thought I would just casually mention it. Everyone else seemed to like it. It makes me wonder what their using to not be able to hear what I’m hearing (again, this was on the 1st video). The second video confirmed it (at normal listening levels). Actually, I thought I was doing you a favor by being over the top so you would take notice. So, no I’m not that type at all.
golfnutz,
Keep in mind that eliminating the preamp always seems to bring certain sound characteristics - some say forwardness, some say brightness or thin, etc - so it might not be the new mic.

Dave
Yes the servers are great. No question. They make a big impact. I tried it here without a server and it was a big step backwards.
Right on, Jay.  A month subscription costs about the same as a new CD.  I have enough CD's for the time I have in listening.  I have 1000 decent LP's collected over 50 years, some of which I still haven't heard, haha. People use streaming the way I use the free FM radio to relax and find out about new recordings I like.  I haven't bought a new CD in a long time, so I can't justify a streamer plus subscription for what you say is inferior sound quality.  People with more knowledge than I might say that servers give better sound quality than CD's, and give access to hi res music not available on CD.  Is this true?
@golfnutz:
Relax man. It’s just a video lol. You aren’t making life decisions nor are you throwing a party in your home while you play my videos at 100 DB.
All i did was present the Antileon Evo with the DCs direct into it. Just a reference point. It’s not for you to go and say "you won’t listen to my videos". Are you always this drastic?
Are you the type that if you buy a car and the remote control does not unlock the door then you won’t be buying that car anymore?
People were raving about the mic not long ago... Now it sucks?
It’s fine if it sucks.. Amazon has a 30 day return period... I’m simply shooting videos with it and letting you all hear it. Has it occurred that it might be the recording that sucks? I’m not sure - I’m just saying because the other recording i did seemed to be mind blowing for many people.
Try listening to the video in a few hours again and report back. Maybe the video hasn’t fully processed?
Let me know either way.
If the mic sucks then it's going back. No biggie. I'm relying on you all to tell me. Just remember that in this particular recording i did not have a preamp in the mix.
Sorry Jay, looks like I won't be listening to your video's anymore with that new mic. The sibilance on Peter Gabriel's voice is so bad I had to turn it off. It actually sound better on my laptop, than my stereo system.
Too bad you don't have a laptop you could connect with the cable I linked to earlier so you could hear how bad it is on your own system (probably worse on yours than mine).
Jay,
I agree with your last post, but I don't just stream music, I actually use Tidal to find music and then I purchase the cd and rip it to my music server's hard drive.
pokey77,
I have long moved on from the "my way or the highway" routine.  The latest exchange between kren and me began after I said the XLF tweeter was hot.  He already didn't like me personally it seemed to me, so he chose this issue as his opportunity to attack me on the subject of the tweeter.  Jay and I agreed that HF emphasis of any speaker could be due to many design factors, and clarified that the soft dome tweeter of the XLF may not be the cause of the HF emphasis.  This should have been a simple dignified clarification of this issue, and Jay was proper and professional about it, but kren jumped on me and said I was wrong, didn't know what I am talking about, should be REBUKED and corrected, etc.  That is plain hostility, particularly inappropriate over a simple question of what causes HF emphasis.  There is no audio issue that requires a REBUKE, ever.   Outside of political scandals and other criminal activity, I can't think of many private personal issues that merit rebuke.  On another occasion, Jay corrected me about the Mephisto Stereo using two power cords when I said one.  Factual corrections are always appropriate.

You, ron17, rbach and others may have similar sentiments as kren about me, but you all do it in a non offensive way, unlike kren.  If you want, check and compare kren's posts with all of your more respectful statements.  Ultimately, you all get the same message across more effectively than kren because of your non insulting manner.  If I have come across as insulting to anyone, I had no intention of doing so, and apologize for my mistakes.  Let kren henceforth avoid insulting me, even if he claims he never did.  Then we can all get along nicely and move on.
