Luxman D-07x

Hello all

Has anyone bought one or even heard one ? What are the initial impressions. I know people rave about the 10x player. Just wondering

I called around a bit and contacted a dealer that carries both the Luxman and Esoteric.  He actually liked the new Esoteric K-05XD and it bested the D-07X and D-010X

I’m interested in both the Esoteric K-05XD and Luxman D-07X. Has anybody else heard these two cd-players? In what way do they differ?

What aural aspect(s) do you not like about the MW 8005?

Happy Listening!

Good to read that you auditioned the Luxman D-07x.

Happy Listening!

I did a demo of the D-07x.  I was hoping to be able to take the demo unit home over a Sunday and Monday when they were closed to compare it to my Modwright player.  They wanted me to buy one and if I didn't like it I could bring it back in thirty days for a refund.  To much of a hassle when they already had a demo that I could use and leave my credit card for security.  I called around a bit and contacted a dealer that carries both the Luxman and Esoteric.  He actually liked the new Esoteric K-05XD and it bested the D-07X and D-010X.  He even liked it more than the more expensive Esoteric K-03XD.  It's tough to listen to esoteric in my neck of the woods, no dealers..

@emilian67 It's starting to sound wonderful. Pristine clarity, air, tonally rich timbres, holographic imaging, natural, relaxing sound. Very happy. Thank you for asking.

Got the D-03X unboxed last night. Arrived undamaged, thankfully!

Double-boxed, plenty of cushioning, nice packaging.

Remote control is a disappointment due to the cover for the battery doesn't fit the remote snugly and falls off. My wife laughed and said I should tape it, wink wink.

Fit n finish is first class. The drawer opening and closing is completely silent! I have never owned a CD player that felt, operated and looked so luxurious. It is an absolute pleasure to operate.

I connected it with balanced XLR cables to the Topping Pre90.

I also left the Oppo 103 connected with RCA cables.

No warm-up for the Lux. The Oppo is ready for battle, it's never turned off.

Decided on some Dire Straits. Know the album well.

We both know how to listen. Focused with eyes closed, seated in the sweet spot.

Fully warm Oppo is up first. Since I rate the Dire Straits album class A for sound quality I mention how good it sounds from the Oppo.

Stone cold Luxman is up next. I'd like to say it blows the Oppo out of the running, but it doesn't. It's a little better. I play around with the "Invert Phase" button. On this album, we both prefer the Invert phase button engaged. It's a subtle difference, but the soundstage seems more 3D that way.

Clarity is a little better from the Lux. Timbres are better too.

That was last night. Left it on auto repeat all night.

First (very brief) listen this morning the Lux is starting to strut its stuff with better everything.

Will post more as the Lux gets more broken in...

@emilian67 Hi! It's the D-03X. Supposed to arrive today. Will post probably this weekend. Thanks for asking!

@jafant

That is wonderful news.

Looking to hearing the difference.

Hopefully soon...

My pleasure. You cannot go wrong with Accuphase, Luxman or Marantz.

And yes, these Players better any Oppo.

Happy Listening!

Thanks @jafant !

Ordered from Music Direct. Have purchased from them before. Model was not in stock. Will ship from manufacturer, but has not shipped yet.

Anxiously waiting for it!

Very much looking forward to hearing it.

It will be replacing my ancient (but still working perfectly) Oppo 103.

Also curious if the Luxman playing the CD layer on SACDs and HDCDs will sound better than the Oppo playing those formats....

Hopefully it will sound at least a little better!

Curious how using the "Invert Phase" button affects the sound.

Thank you for the kind words.

Happy listening to you too!

Nice choice! The Luxman D-03x is a fine CD player in the made in Japan tradition.

Just under 30 lbs., it has heft to the chassis. Your ears will enjoy its natural, neutral, presentation and sound. Balanced top to bottom without drawing attention to specific characteristics. The build is excellent as well. And yes, this player benefits from model D-10x. I have not heard the newer D-07x.  I look forward in reading your impressions and thoughts.

Happy Listening!

Hello @milpai . I have never heard it. Steve Guttenberg loved the 10X. I figured the 3X should share most of those characteristics. The "Invert Phase" button is of interest to me too.

My opinion is, there's lots of great sounding CD players, I just figured I would really like the Luxman.

Hey @tomcarr, how did you land in the decision with this disc player? Did you get a chance to listen to it somewhere? Would be interested in your comparison against the Topping and Oppo.

I am pretty sure I've seen a couple of threads in the past.  Definitely worth doing a search.
