Hey folks...going on a road trip down to the deep south...and looking for some cool tunes to keep me company...at any rate here is what I was thinking:
One More for the ROad(Deluxe) ABB-fillmore East (deluxe) Maybe early zz top?
tvad...although I am a generous man by nature...sharing my women aint one of them! thanks for the suggestions...Im looking forward to seeing CHarleston and Savannah! thanks boys to all!
The Marshall Tucker Band. I heard them live at a concert and they were sooo good. Some of the members have passed on, but the band is still out there recording and playing. Sandra
Try on some Ry Cooder, the soundtrack for "Paris Texas". It's not live but you'll be glad you did. Maybe some Doug Sahm and his Texas Tornadoes. Also the Los Lonly Boys Have a great trip!
The top three by a wide margin and in order of greatness are The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band. ABB's, "Live at Fillmore East" is a masterpiece by any standard.
As a Georgian let me just throw in couple of others: The Georgia Satellites, Drive By Truckers, The Black Crows, and The Atlanta Rythym Section. (REM... definitely not).
BTW, I saw Hank III this weekend and all I can say is: WOW. The band consisted of a steel guitar, a fiddle, a drummer, three guitars and a stand up bass, playing what I would describe as heavy speed metal rock. Now, that's southern rock!
There is great live music in Athens, Ga... so y'all stop on by ya hear.
nothing makes it feel like the south quite like the Allman Bros. Another of my favorites from down here are Drivin N Cryin. Not exactly Classic Rock, but late 80's. Try Fly me Couragous Rob
Tvad...thanks for the offer my kind friend...my company consists of my very attractive(and curvy) younger blonde fiance...and since man can't live on love alone...some Bookers,Makers Mark, and Knob Creek...mint juleps...her I come...yeeehawwww!
