I've been moved by Miles' "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud" for many years. The ascension to the gallows for one's execution. The deepest blues conceivable, and Miles laid it down perfectly. Mournful, bent notes that plumb the depths of despair.
So beautifully performed that I can only listen to it a couple times a year.

There are many "hidden gems" throughout the whole movie which are tied to the theme of the movie which is "gameness" the act of being "game". To stick to your convictions no matter what life throws your way. To "persevere" - continue in a course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success.
You said it very well, pjw. Thank you. |
inna, they are common, some mixture of brown and green, nothing special. If I may say, never pay attention on the colour but on the way those eyes look upon others.
Have a nice day. |
pjw, thanks to you, will search for old movie clips today on YT...I have watched some of those several times (thanks to our national tv) but it seems that one can never be tired of them. In fact, the older you get, the more you see in each of them. |
Nice! Jacintha sings the original lyrics by Dick Rogers. Alternate lyrics have been written for the great melody. The most common alternate lyrics were written by “The Velvet Fog” , Mel Torme; with alternate title “Nocturne For The Blues”: https://youtu.be/ReBDKjLaRPw |

Booker Ervin
recorded at "Berlin Jazz Festival", Berlin, West Germany, October 29, 1965. Just one song titled "Blues For You" which lasts until the 27:30 mark after which Horace Parlan speaks about his relationship with Ervin and then plays a beautiful tribute to him with a piano solo for the remainder of the video The spoken and song tribute was recorded May 27, 1975. Kenny Drew plays the piano on the nearly 28 minute jam session in Berlin 1965. I have listened to a ton of long stretched out sax solo's and this one by Booker is one of my favorites. If you have the half hour to spare its well worth the listen.

Booker Irving is in the air! I was about to post one more “Harlem Nocturne”, Booker Erving’s, when I saw your post. Great stuff, pjw! Erving is one of those tenor players with such a distinctive tone that it only takes a couple of notes to know it’s him. He also had a unique time feel that made him the perfect compliment to Monk, with whom he played for many years. That solo is epic. Reminiscent of this classic extended solo. The great Paul Gonsalves: https://youtu.be/avINkychVpcIn case anyone wants one more Harlem Nocturne: https://youtu.be/pWR40sdasQ4 |

“Haste makes waste”! Sorry for the typos and apology to the memory of Booker Ervin. ERVIN. Not, Erving or Irving! Hate that spell checker!
**** Well there are, but they are by Bill Cosby. ****
So “woke” of you 😊
Nice clips. “El Rey de Los Timbales”. |
So “woke” of you 😊
Not "woke" at all. It's just that comedians can't stop being comedians. Jazz is serious music. Me 'woke'? The whole thing was a travesty of justice. Don't believe in this 'coming forward' decades after the fact. Cheers |

frogman no need to explain spelling I know what you meant.
I have that Ellington album as well as the Booker with Brass CD.
Great stuff!
I like Bookers "gruff" tone. |
Haven't had a lot of listening time lately, but last night:

Long Tall Dexter AKA : LTD Live at the Subway Club is a great new release. Buy it you will not be disappointed. Do any of you have his live recordings on the Steeplechase label when he was living in Denmark? I think they recorded at least 12 live Europe dates and I want to know about the sound quality.
SteepleChase Label | Releases | Discogs
Any input will be much appreciated. |
|
I do not, pjw. Recently picked up the "Rollins in Holland" record, but don't have DG's Steeplechase. |
pjw, I too am a fan of Steeplechase and have several of their releases including The Apartment posted by acman3. I have a few of LTD’s live recordings on the label including all three volumes of “Swiss Nights” and the two with Jackie McLean. The music, as expected, is great. I am probably more tolerant of inferior sound quality than some, but I would say that the sound quality of those is not that great. The Jackie McLean dates are particularly subpar unfortunately. However, still very listenable. Hope this helps. |

Background vocals out of tune. A good producer/engineer would have pulled the organ back in the mix at that point since the background singers are doubling what the organ is playing causing the rub. This would have lessened the “pain” ☹️. |

I wonder if the title refers to his name, or is it a play on ’Da Nang’, a city in Vietnam, Where a lot of 'banging' took place.
No one can play a bad version of ’all blues’. Just one of those tunes.

Tito Puente and Take five...that's great, love it!

inna, thank you. I haven't been to Cordoba, have to change that. But I have tried some of their guitars. Like that one you sent me, those are instruments with character. Thumbs up.

Jacintha, so beautiful voice...

Mary, if you go to Andalucia visit Sevilla as well. Ask locals about where to experience real flamenco, not flamenco for tourists. |
Beautiful city, Sevilla. Inna is right. I heard some fantastic Flamenco while there several years ago. Very soulful place.
|
Amen . Sevilla is one of the top cities in Europe , therefore the world . Berlin was always my first love but ,IF, I could move back to Europe in my old age , Sevilla or Verona would be my choice .

The Thai saying is "sum num na." Americans had no business in Viet Nam. Why the f**k would we even try after the best French leadership told us it was a lost cause? We all know the answer - perceived American righteousness and invincibility. Sum num na,

Keegiam, I didn't know this guy, but my friends knew him. He got back from Nam in one piece, and everybody was so glad to see him that they wanted to take him out and celebrate. Since I was always up for a party; I said ,"Let the good times begin". We partied all over the city all night long, and since nobody wanted to go home, we wound up at a deserted filling station on a bright Sunday morning drinking out of brown paper bags. I thought the guy was a little quiet, and his friends said he wasn't quite himself. All night he hadn't talked too much, but now he started talking. "I think I'm going back" he said. "I miss the jungle, I miss the excitement; yall just don't know what it's like, it's like a permanent ride on a roller coaster, I'm going back" His friends looked at him in a state of shock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biGcO_QPjN0 |
I finally got around to reading "The Things They Carried," recently. It helps me make sense of that story, O10. |
Most definitely will, once I visit Spain, I will be
unstoppable, like a racing car on two feet. In a flamenco mode. |
Forgot to say. Good Morning everyone! It is morning here so it has to be everywhere. It is veeeery sunny day and it is Alex's birthday.
Happy birthday kid! Do not worry about the numbers, you are so young and beautiful!
I am sending you my support. Hang in there!
;---)
Lol, I wonder how he will take this. Will he laugh or try to strangle me? |

Mary Stallings:
Jazz at last, Jazz at last, thank God almighty, we have Jazz at last!!
Outstanding clip. I hope she has a track record.
Cheers |
"88 Basie Street" and "Basie Jam" on Pablo. I just purchased a test pressing of the "Basie Jam" by Analogue Productions and it is one of my top three albums in my entire (600 records and 12 open reel tapes) collection, both for the music and the outstanding sonics. "Take Ten"(mono pressing) by Paul Desmond is a great album and "Pithacanthropus Erectus" by Mingus are another two of my favorite jazz albums. |

@rok2id
Glad that you liked it! She's a bit under the radar, but indeed good.
