Jazz for aficionados
I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.
Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.
The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".
"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.
While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.
Enjoy the music.

Kid is happy, that's important. Birthdays should last longer. Now back to regular schedule... pjw, those are awesome clips you posted, you do know I like those dynamic duo, Rodrigo Y Gabriela and I especially admire her, she is very confident when playing fast and her stamina, the ability to play well for a long period of time is respectful. And of course, the grandmasters... |
Ain't that the truth. I can remember back in the good old days when The Queen said "off with their heads," heads rolled. Now just protest and whining about their 'rights'. Being Queen ain't what it used to be. Hard times my dear, hard times. I might reconsider of letting them eat something else besides the cake. :--) Thank you for the music. |
the worst thing https://youtu.be/HsjT2SyWemg “After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” kind and generous https://youtu.be/LR6PV-Irv7s |

I hope you guys are all safe, terrible news are coming from USA, tornadoes and storms travelling across the state. :--( But nature can exist without us and we surely cannot exist without nature... Are we, between the beauty of the dawn and the sunset, doomed to suffer? If yes, at least that doesn’t happen in the silence. We have music. Stormy weather in our hearts, sometimes, no less turbulent: |

Those are interesting thoughts O-10. And when will you finally start writing that book of yours? You surely have something to say and you know it how to say it right. Me and Alex (I speak on his behalf, he won't mind) are coming to book promotion. I am serious, don't laugh 'cause I see you laughing. :--) |

Mary_jo, That is so incredible. Any time you were very close to a musician, there is something special about each and every note emanating from your speakers when you hear them. That's true but I am not that close to him. But I do agree with you; if somebody dear sends you your kind of music, that's like getaway to another dimension... |
Somebody mention Andalusia and Flamenco? Big Flamenco fan here. I actually can’t say what I would like more, to play it or to dance on it, that long till I feel the taste of sweat coming down my face with my wet clothes sticking to my body and my heart rate increased. To play or to dance for hours. Quite different feeling than with my love for Jazz. Flamenco captures, Jazz liberates. Both needed, wild and calm waters. La Rumba is absolutely fantastic. |
