I'm going to review records in my collection, and you'll be able to decide if they're worthy of your collection. These records are what I consider "must haves" for any jazz aficionado, and would be found in their collections. I wont review any record that's not on CD, nor will I review any record if the CD is markedly inferior. Fortunately, I only found 1 case where the CD was markedly inferior to the record.
Our first album is "Moanin" by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers. We have Lee Morgan , trumpet; Benney Golson, tenor sax; Bobby Timmons, piano; Jymie merrit, bass; Art Blakey, drums.
The title tune "Moanin" is by Bobby Timmons, it conveys the emotion of the title like no other tune I've ever heard, even better than any words could ever convey. This music pictures a person whose down to his last nickel, and all he can do is "moan".
"Along Came Betty" is a tune by Benny Golson, it reminds me of a Betty I once knew. She was gorgeous with a jazzy personality, and she moved smooth and easy, just like this tune. Somebody find me a time machine! Maybe you knew a Betty.
While the rest of the music is just fine, those are my favorite tunes. Why don't you share your, "must have" jazz albums with us.
alex, I've wondered about deleted posts in general, regardless of how many within any given time. Is Big Brother reading all these and just eliminating any they don't like?
Recently I made a brief reply to a post which made reference to a male trombone player. Since it was in fact a female, I poked a little fun at that. Now both posts appear to have been deleted. What possibly was wrong with either one?

Very nice indeed. I like her style. I will have to see what she has recorded. She seems to be sort of old school, compared to your usual posts. I recently obtained The Great Pretender by Lester Bowie. Thanks for turning me on to him.
Yesterday on the street, a lady unknown to me with bunch of kids, 4 or 5 can’t say, when kids are noisy I see double, spoke with the voice that gradually led from lower to higher register:
"Kids, my nose is itching me, which means that I am gonna be very, very angry soon, so run, run away from me and save yourself!"
I was at the other side of the street just passing by but looking at them, when she gave me that awkward look so I started laughing. She laughed me back, after her, kids too. The street was bell-ringing.
What we have all eaten? Complete strangers on the street, laughing at each other. That’s jazz and this is Betty Boop. Enjoy your Saturday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EBSNY2UrQk
This is as much about development of black culture in LA as it is about jazz. But I admire Kareem's writing and found it very interesting. Hopefully others of you will as well.
In 1963 JFK knew the solution to the problem; give a man a fish, and you feed him for one meal, teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life; that's why he was assassinated, no one wants a solution to the problem; the status quo wants exactly what we see.
This is one of those records that feels like all the stars aligned and something special happened. I love the way this woman sang. Voice a little rough around the edges sometimes, but always from the heart and very soulful. The elegance of Hank Jones on piano. Stan Getz sounds fabulous. Charlie Haden, bass and Mark Johnson, drums; not too shabby.
ac said that he loved pike. Ok, I love pike but I also love tea. I am tea enthusiast. I drink tea on every occasion I have and I drink it when I have no occasion at all. I have all kinds of tea, you can’t even imagine what kind of tea I have.
This morning I bought new baby and it is called **Cannabis sativa L**. It says on the box, I am just reading it, organic hemp tea, CBD less than 3%, THC less than 0.2%.
So I have just taken one and I am waiting for the result.
A rabbit got some weed and invited a little chicken to smoke some weed. After a while a rabbit asked little chick: Chicky, do you feel anything? Chick: I do not feel anything. Rabbit: What do you mean? Impossible, here take some more. After a while, rabbit: do you feel something now? Chick: Nothing. Rabbit: ok, here another one. After a while, rabbit: ok, what about now?? Little chicken: Nope, I feel nothing, I feel no legs, no wings, no head, nothing!
Schubert, as Rok once said: you all take this too serious.
Imagine husband and wife living together for 40 years. Do you really think (I am sure you do not) that they managed through the years without saying once a while really "bad" things to each other? But that does not mean that they do not like each other.
We all have are daily worries that twist our behaviour on daily basis. You accept it and move on. You are not less of a man if you show it. I am not going to judge you based on one post. I might be (if!) annoyed but will surely not judge you.
Also, if we do not react always on your posts that does not mean that we did not see it nor that we do not like it.
Peace with you man.
p.s. If you were thinking on something else but not on leaving, never mind, you can still read this if needed. ;-)
