Is AI going to kill Hifi?

I work in the tech as a software dev which helps in affording my crazy Hifi hobby. But with in just a year, I have stopped coding and now AI does most of the coding. There are these systems called agentic AI that automates to a point where you don't really need much human interaction at all.

It's getting pretty crazy. For the most part, anything a human does on the computer AI can do. And let me tell you... it's not a situation where it creates new jobs in place of old ones lost. Google has products for corporations that basically takes care of any need for anything. Ya, you might need a handful of people but not much more to be honest.

I wonder, what is this going to do to the Hifi market? If AI eliminates all these white colored jobs, how will these Hifi shops and brands make it?

@srinisr “looked down to see it was credited to AI”

Ahhh…. Are you sure?
Or is AI fooling with you, or some mad scientist?

Just joking….. it must be true-ish.

@mylogic ....Re *, thank you.. ;)  There's the oft chance our species, if we get a grip on ourselves being the crux of the problems facing us globally v. our 'advanced' NIMBY cultures, we might jerk ourselves from either a 'bad enough' to basic 'likely annihilation' scenario.....
...in a country that the average education of the population is the 6th grade...
...with a very questionable 'leader' at the top of our large-scale version of a pyramid scheme....

...let's argue about that...if not here, keep your handles and we'll invade X...

Finally got around to watching Jon Stewart when he aired Colberts' firing+Late Show cancelation....Love the back-up singers' response singing the lyrics, go see if haven't....

Hopeful, but still happy to be one year short of a 3/4's of a century on this quantum simulation of a planet with y'all.....sharing music musings....pestering with mine... *L* 😏

A great snippet in a greater movie about the Scale of it all....
Favorite line from the BBC series "The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy", the galaxy news announcers' comment:

"For all of you on the galactic perimeter, keep banging those rocks together!"

Yup...

@asvjerry 6th grade education

I must admit a had a quiet laugh about that. Here’s my variations on your theme…

l did a last minute cruise around Ireland two years ago with Norwegian Cruise Line sailing out of Southampton. One thing l learned quickly was that it was an American Cruise Company named Norwegian Cruise Line? The brand “NCL” has absolutely nothing to do with Norway or Norwegian ownership. I should have taken that as a sign….
2000 or so of the 3000 on board “tourists crammed in a boat” we’re American. I personally experienced that “6th grade education” with some of the evening dining conversations. Completely blinkered attitudes at odds with world wide opinions.

l had constant inner laughs people watching. Most had come over to trace their roots in Limerick, Galloway, Cork and Dublin. A lot of the passengers were dressed for dinner just like they would have been at home, Hillbillies, Texans, Dixielanders, KFC lookalikes and the like. Visually it made a rather loud spectacle and more like “fancy dress”. It was a constant source of high amusement for the average UK passenger on an Ireland or British Isles circular cruise break away.

My partner and l had a bet as to how many minutes it would take for our various table guests each night to get talking about (Yawn) “money” or “how many cruises you been on?” Mention anything political or critical and the roof came off. Some of the conversations were so bizarre. It was like being in a playground all over again.

My wife said…. “It’s so loopy and cooky, you just can’t write it”

Recently watched youtube video of a sailing of new Queen Elizabeth ocean liner, this vs videos from cruise ships.  I don't know if there could be a greater relief between the two, QE passengers so much more refined, thoughtful, interesting vs the brutes on these cruises. These hordes of cruise tourists are absolutely destroying destination sites such as Venice, Barcelona, ancient ruins all over the world, etc.

One of my fav series is the 'White Lotus', monkey brains in paradise. I fully expect most watchers of this series haven't a clue as to the meaning or symbolism of the white Lotus plant, sex and money is the allure of the show for the masses. And to think some believe present civilization is the most advanced and knowledgeable in history. AI will help to cull the heard, you all know about planned obsolescence.

As a veteran of many cruises of all types since the 80's, I can say you have to pick your cruise with some care. If you sail on Carnival or another party cruise line, don't complain about unrefined 'brutes'. If you sail on the QEII, don't complain about there not being enough fun things to do.

I do agree totally about the passengers in historic ports when they disembark.

I'm also a veteran of many beach resorts in Mexico and Jamaica, and I totally LOVE 'White Lotus', all 3 seasons. No, I didn't know the meaning of the white Lotus plant and still don't, so throw me in with the ignorant masses. I thought I got meaning out of the series, but apparently I was wrong.

Ultimately AI data center energy demand and projected EV charging demand is going to force more nuke plants to be built especially so if our overlords keep closing coal and natural gas plants. Wind and solar will contribute a pittance. There is really no other way out.

White Lotus' meaning or symbolism in Buddhist philosophy/religion concerns ignorance and the path one travels in reaching enlightenment. If you pay attention to the sound track you often hear monkey like sounds, these just as the characters are about to engage in mindless acts motivated by desires. I also find it interesting they also often have scenes of real monkeys with this wide eyed, sort of incredulous look like they can't believe how these humans are behaving . This has to do with monkeybrain or our primitive brain which subconsciously or consciously seeks fulfillment of that desire.  And it is this desire which impedes us from reaching enlightenment and nirvana.  White Lotus presents to us people with insatiable desires, this usually revolves around sex, money, power. We then observe the downsides and tragedies this insatiable desire brings about. The entire series is intended to bring about some contemplation as to these costs so that we  may reconsider both our conscious and unconscious desires.

...and then there's the Lotus Eaters, thank you Homer.....😏

Viewing the promos of the cruise ships brings to mind the Axiom of WALL-E, but glitzed out.  A floating Dizzyland, Vegas afloat the largest drink.

An exercise in how much sh*t you can make float?

Just another gaggle out to see them there feren places.....
Awhile back read how, if you wore a shirt referencing CA could let the locals give you a pass....that's likely over...in both places...😣

Ultimately, we're all visitors for a span, then gone back to what we were.
And the 'theme park' seems destined for a major remodel on all the rides, the food stands, and the HVAC...water....sewage....

...and all that microplastic.....like syrup.....

...tourists...

@sns - thanks for your explanation of the white lotus in Buddhism and your interpretation of various things in the series.

"AI isn't the end of civilization. Unscrupulous people using AI is the end of civilization."

Of course they will. What would stop them? What ever has?

Hi-fi is already dead.

As for AI, I spent decades in software development and the last two years studying AI. The vast majority of people, including many software developers, don't understand the magnitude of how the world is about to change. If they start referencing what AI does now, or using historical timelines to predict its slow advancement, you know they don't understand AI from a technical perspective. AI's advancement is exponential, not linear.

In just a few years the vast majority of music will be generated. Musicians and studios will not be needed. The musical instrument market will massively shrink and along with it some interest in non-Pop music. As for higher-end home audio equipment, the market is too small to redevelop it with AI, so I doubt if it will change.

But that's small potatoes. Our whole economic structure is about to change, and therefore our whole societal structure. I think audio equipment will be the least of our concerns.

@jssmith Yassir. Far too many have this idea AI learns at the same or approximate rate as humans. Y'all be wiser soon enough.

I certainly hope not .When you think man started making sounds that leaded to singing. Without anything but just his or there voices.Clapping their hands together.

'Hi-fi is already dead'? That's quite the pronouncement; I hadn't realized. Guess I better get rid of my dead gear.

AI Is gonna change the world! Just wait until tomorrow morning! Maybe next year or maybe the year after next, but It is coming and will appear when you have least expected!! Bam! Everything will be new and all that is old will be obsolete. Selling your gear will be futile.

AI music generating sites are nothing new. Yamaha digital pianos, Pro Tools, Autotune, Melodyne, and a host of other tools have provided a similar capability for many years. Don't think for a minute that you too can be a rock star just by sitting on your couch pressing buttons. Absurd!

To suggest that AI will rule popular music culture is even more of a stretch. I guess many folks here are buying into the hype. If you envision a hologram created to look like a singer and the song is catchy then, yeah, we will have successfully resurrected Milli Vanilli. As if we were all clamoring for their return!! Girl you know it's true!

Do I think that AI could produce a hit song? Sure. It will be a novel moment and the song will be catchy. Real catchy. Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down..

Not sure how anyone can believe that AI will replace all the talented artists we have and subsequently dominate the billboard 100? Does anyone want to go see AI live in concert at the Met? There will be three AI bands there!! Let's just call them the Manheim Steam Rollers, Yanni Longhair, and Craftwork. Personally, I can't wait to see what the computer comes up with next!! The best part will be the hologram performers..who look so real!!

And if I read the room correctly, once AI has taken over our music culture and starts touring relentlessly, it will visit your home - invitation only! - and replace your sound system! Of course, it will all be catered to what you ask of it, and absolutely free! (At the expense of your energy and water bills).

If AI can learn to do just about anything humans can do it will mean the cost of HiFi will drop through the floor just like everything else that depends on human labor.  Your 100K system is gonna be $500.  Then all the people who only value it because it's something most can't have will be mad.  We'll see, I expect it will continue to take longer than expected but I'm not planning to buy any expensive stereo stuff anytime soon.
