Elizabeth. I better not go then as already been accused of being "in bed with Audiogon" and getting preferential treatment due to being a "high post count member". Just think what they would make of that if was a true "insider". 😝😝
What Audiogon is referring to there is that some time ago they sent out emails to members ( no idea what they based that selection process on though) to see if interested in providing feedback to Audiogon on future ideas, plans etc. Nothing nefarious at all.....
And nobody got paid for it...lol
I can see the analogy with high end car forums to high end audio forums for sure but we will have to see how this goes.
Still do not see anybody having joined or admitting to joining yet.
"Working closely with some of our most dedicated audio enthusiasts, we’ve launched a premium membership tier"
So, maybe I missed it. Anyone want to step forward and identify themselves?
The model that I've seen that has worked well this way is for specialty auto forums where there is a fee for seeing and advertising paid member to paid member classified ads along with other minor perks. Rennlist, as an example. That forum however makes it's revenue from member subscriptions almost exclusively. No fees collected from sales transactions. About the same price. People there who are "unbadged" are generally seen as lurkers and not actual owners of these particular vehicles. There are some potential parallels here. Will this become the "true high end Forum" however that term may be defined?
elizabeth Now you’ve got it, many different scenarios for clubs so everyone felt like they could fit in somewhere and some could even have multiple memberships. Of course, the main objective is to have everyone paying a monthly/yearly fee to participate.
Actually, in a way it might attract exactly the members here who tend to bore us to death, special pass for you to stay gk. Maybe we can chip in towards the $100 for those who we want to vote onto the new island.
Its not a horrible idea, I just do not see it working right here, right now. There is little enough member participation right now on freebie forums, by that I mean many varied members not the same consistent core posters. Really do not think timing is right for an elitist club.
A forum in which you can only participate by invitation?
A forum with minimum system requirements to participate?
As I have thought about this "Insider" thing, I keep wandering if I would be that interested in comments from someone that was paying to keep them private.
lookin like net neutrality on a micro scale and a dash of social stratification with whiffs of gentrification. It’s obvious who they really want around. And that’s fine they gotta make money. I’ll find other forums not worried. Will be interesting. I personally like all the craziness and cable naysayers, etc. it’d be pretty homogenous and boring otherwise.
Come on, anyone could find couple of thousands if it looks promising. I don't mind membership fees either, not too high and not too low or it would make no sense.
Long overdue to create a new forum for enthusiasts. First class/second class membership ? Maybe we should pay Audiogon to stop it.Or even better buy Audiogon. I can see there are enough people here who don't really know what to do with their money. It is just some have $10k and others $1 million.
I would say it is a result of the change of ownership where the new owners only see Audiogon as a pure business venture and all business have to make money.
It is not the enthusiast owned Audiogon of old I am afraid.
