Focal Kanta 2 or KEF Reference Meta 1 plus KC62 sub?

Hello there!

Currently running Focal Aria 926 with KEF KC62 in a 15’Wx16’Dx13’H feet room (open concept space). Listening distance is about 12 feet. The speakers are powered by NAD M33. Room is treated with DIRAC LIVE as I had boominess present. I could only place speakers 12 inches away from the walls and 24 inches from partial and full wall to the sides.

I’ve done my research and narrowed it down to Focal Kanta 2, no sub OR KEF Reference 1s META with either KEF KC62 or one of the REL subs.

What would you recommend I go with? Price is similar on both, both sound great (heard them both), and going with Kanta 2s would maximize the space in the room. It’s a condo, so trying to go low, but don’t need go down to 20Hz.

I listen to pretty much everything except classical, rap, techno. ;)

Thank you for advice.

Since you like both speakers go with the Focal. Why bother with a sub if you don’t need it with the Focal?

we sell both speakersthey are very different yes the kantas go lower but asub will still go lower

the focals have a more vivid top end the kefs image more precisely

I brought the kanta 3’s home and driving them with a 250/425 wpc amp they didn’t prodice any bass below 80 hz! There was a 10 db boost around 100hz and then it dropped like a rock to be flat at 80 hz down -20db at 60 hz where I usually have room gain and nothing below. I brought the Kanta 3 home because I really liked their midrange presentation. a little sharp on top, but smooth for Focal. the Kef ref1 or ref 1 meta are Kef's top shelf components made in England to very strict tolerances.

@niko79 I don’t use my sub with my Kanta twos ,its been a while since I read the freq response graphs and specs but they’ve got plenty of low end.Someone was saying with a pair of subs they sound as good as Sopras, my subs just sitin in the corner unused, you can see my room on my profile, I love my Kantas.

Is the Meta Ref 1 out and in the wild?

You would obviously need to hear for yourself. After hearing and owning both brands some years ago upper speakers I would go Focal.

Focal Kanta 3s here. I heard both the 2 and 3 in an auditioning room larger than my own and both have no trouble producing bass. That said, they aren't replacements for well integrated subs. I just don't find the need or desire to add two.

I listen to everything from blues, jazz, rock, country, to house, trance, etc.

I'm having trouble finding a dealer that would discount these more than 10% off MSRP. WHERE do you guys get all these deals i hear on forums. I decided to go with Kanta 1s i think plus Focal or REL 7/x sub.

Kanta no1 with a REL T/x series or two would be incredible if set up right. Highly recommend the REL over the KC62 unless space is an extreme concern.   We have set up a few of these exact systems and they sound incredible.

@niko79 where are you located? Depending on retail I usually can get 15 to as much as 25% off.

@rsf507 I just picked up an open box for 30% off from an authorized dealer. Thanks for the offer though.

@simplystereo Yeah, I would love the REL T7/x but I measured it and, on the right, it would be in a way of the right front speaker, but sitting on the floor. Since these Kanta 1s sit up there on the stands, would it be ok or not for the sub to be in the way of the projection of the sound? Might need to send a photo to REL for assessment.

Having the t7/x in front of a Kanta no1 on (hopefully) Kanta stands would be zero issue at all.  :)

Still not room corrected, but speakers (Kanta 1s) sound amazing. Thanks everyone for your feedback and advice.

Actually, while I have your attention, anyone knows of any local (to Chicago) or remote DIRAC calibrators i can utilize? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
