Favorite genres for fun listening

My favorites for fun

1. Electronic Ambient, Dub, Downbeat, Acid, Trip-Hop and instrumental Hip-Hop.

2. Afro-Cuban-Latin Salsa, Calypso, Tresero

I always listen to music for fun, so my favorite genres are the many sub-genres of rock music and reggae, and I've also got time for various sub-genres of hip-hop/rap and electronic/techno, though I don't listen to those as much. 

For pure fun nothing beats Power Pop. But instrumental Bluegrass played at breakneck tempo is also thrilling, as is Baroque-era Classical keyboard works, particularly when performed on harpsichord.

Old country (hillbilly) fiddle is my #1 fun music. Jazz from the 60's & 70's  is #2. But solo instrumental classic music, mostly piano, gets the most play time.  

czarivey Ambient is a great example of music that really, really needs a good system or it just sounds like noise! Some ambient songs have no real melody, but evoke a ton of emotion for me at least. Acid is the best!

larsman I love listening to reggae, but I'm finding it's hard to find good quality recordings of roots reggae music. It doesn't sound as nice as listening in person. 

I am assuming it's because they are digital versions of the vinyl records, and perhaps it would sound better on vinyl itself.

Electro Swing

Never heard of it before streaming. Artists like Caravan Palace, Caro Emerald and Bart and Baker.

Very uplifting and they sound GREAT!

Anything is likely to sound better on a better system.

For me that can also mean a badly recorded black metal album can dound more like what it is then. Even if that means it sounds more like recorded through an old phone.

+1 for Ambient and adjacent genres. The new Hollie Kenniff album is so good!
When it comes to electronic music or dub sometimes nothing beats Alva Noto or Pole. Subs come in handy then.

For pure fun I like my dose of drum‘n‘bass.

Chmaiwald that’s pretty funny about death metal. I really like Korn and saw them in concert and thought highly of them. on the system, it sounds like hot garbage. Not that enjoyable for me at all lol like you’re saying as if recorded on a phone.

I have become a big jazz fan purely because of the detail and depth I hear on my system. It’s just background music for me on anything else. I also have developed a liking for some electronica for the same reasons. Am I listening to the music or the gear? Both, with no apologies.
