Duelund speaker cable

I thought I would share my experience with Duelund hookup cables.

Thanks to a recommendation on here a few months ago, and follow-up on Jeffs place, I replaced my TelluriumQ Ultra Black II speaker cable with Duelund DCA12GA Dual.  My reason for doing so was to tame the brightness which had crept into my streaming system following a series of upgrades to power supply and isolation.

For this purpose they did not disappoint.  The Duelunds introduced a richness in tone and a very satisfying musicality, quite different from the over analytical TQs, and all at a fraction of the price.   Another selling point for the Duelunds is that the single-wired bare cable can be threaded through the 3 sets of binding posts of my ATC SCM40s.  No need for plugs, spades or jumpers.

Fast forward a few months, and I identified and resolved the inherent brightness in my system.   An overhaul of the pre-streamer ethernet stage was the fix.  I can't speak highly enough of the Uptone EtherRegen.  Add a good LPS, fiber input and clock to it, and the gift which was already giving plenty just got even better.

The overall effect of the new EtherRegen ecosystem was to bring the sound closer to analog, which inevitably pushed the system towards a little too much warmth.

So, on Jeff's advice I have swapped out the DCA12GA for the DCA16GA.  Even with only 5 hours burn-in, the uplift in dynamics, tonality, timber is clear, without as far as I can see, any negatives.  The bass is still there, and the treble still sweet and smooth.

I thoroughly recommend these cables.  They may not look much, especially compared to the "anaconda" type speaker cables out there, but at the price they are an easy and painless try.   The DCA12GA is a great choice for someone looking to tame a bright system.  Otherwise, give the DCA16GA a try.  I can't see myself ever needing to move on from it.

Try tri-wiring your SCM40 speakers with DCA16GA for further improvement. Or DCA12GA on the woofers and DCA16A on the midrange and tweeters.

Thanks @vinylvalet .  Can I ask if you've tried it?  What advice I've found on this subject indicates that the Duelund cables are at their best when single-wired.

You're welcome. Yes I did on ATC SCM40 speakers among others. I used DCA16GA for all three. I'm just speculating the DCA12GA would be slightly better on the woofers.

BTW, Jim Smith of Get Better Sound uses DCA12GA speaker cable, which he prefers to DCA16GA, on the stereo he uses for his RoomPlay Reference sessions.

Thanks for sharing your efforts. Yep, that is how one learns about sound quality… components, wires… etc. it is the sum of it all.

I'm a big fan of Duelund 12 gage speaker cables and use them on both of my systems.   However, if you decide to try them, either buy a pair that is fully broken in, or be prepared for them to sound lousy until they reach the 200 hour mark of break-in.

I'm using DCA16GA for many years.

Does DCA12GA sound just warmer or also slower?

With which cable bass has better definition?

@alexberger . My impression so far, after a day with the 16 is that the 12's bass is fuller, softer and a little slower. There appears to me a tighter faster, more textured bass with the 16s. For my system the balance of the 16s is spot on. The Goldilocks cable.

I have been using the DCA16GA as speaker cable for about a year.  I recently changed to the Silversmith Fidelium which even second hand are ten times the price.  The Silversmith are fractionally better (say 5% at best, noticable but nothing exceptional), but certainly not in value for money terms. The Duelunds are truly awesome for the price.  A real hifi bargain

These sound like something that will have to be tried...I know alot of the diy guys like them here.Which is enough for me to be interested as well.Ive tried just about everything else...why not,thx guys.

I used Acrotec 6n 1040 before Duelund.

Acrotec it a old brand name of Acrolink. I bought  Acrotec 20 year ago. It costed $100/1m bulk. It isn't a bad cable. But in my system (300B amp and Altec 604E), Duelund DCA16GA sounds more organic. Acrotec is more refined on top, but Dueland is more vivid and fast. Acrotec has natural tone but Dueland is even better in this regard.

Good day,

Are the Dueland speaker cables offered with attached connectors?  Or are they purely offered as cables without connectors?

Thanks

You can order them as bare wire or custom order with connectors from PartsConnexion very inexpensively.   Bare wire connection is the best way to go if your speakers and amp(s) accept bare wire.

I have two of their power cords on my Quicksilver KT monoblocks, custom ordered from Parts Connexion.  I'm a fan... low cost, high value.

Has anyone done an A-B comparison between the Duelund and Jupiter speaker cables?

Does anyone know where I can get a set of Duelund Dual DCA12GA speaker cables to demo or tryouts?   I live in Philadelphia area.

@sdberman I'm not aware of any brick and mortar selling Duelund or any entity offering demos. One of those deals where you purchase and sell used if not satisfied.

Just made a 2m set of speakers with Duelund DCA10GA.  I twisted + and - within  a 7mm cotton sleeve with bananas at the amp with bare wire at the speakers.  Out of the box without break-in these cables are just a “Wow” just great sounding. Music just sounds so real and lifelike.  Great Hi’s, Mid’s and Bass with nothing lacking…all for $175! These are a real deal and better than many cables I have owned that cost a whole lot more!

Hello, has anyone tried using the Duelund Dual DCA12GA and the Duelund Dual DCA16GA connected in parallel?

I'm sorry if I'm writing incorrectly in English, as I'm from Spain and use Google Translate.

Thank you.

Hi @antoniones

Yes. I tried tri-wiring my ATC SCM40s. 12GA to the woofers and 16GA to the mids and tweeters. It didn't sound so great. I think a few others have also had disappointing results doing this.

I have now the 10GA single wired, and it sounds fantastic

Thanks lollipopguild for your answer, but I’m referring to connecting the 12GA and 16GA in parallel and connecting them to my Focal Electra 1007 BE for example, which only have two connectors and do not allow bi-wiring.

Would there be any benefit to using both instead of just one?

lollipopguild, are you using the 10GA braided or are you using it separately? Have you tested if it makes a difference whether you use it braided or not?

@antonioes  I'm unsure what you mean by "braided".

Unlike the other gauges, the 10GA does not appear to be available in the "dual" configuration.  For each speaker I have two lengths of 10GA bound together lightly with cloth insulating tape - these are the positive and negative cables for each speaker.

I also have the bare cable ends threaded directly into each speaker's three binding posts, rather than attach spades or banana plugs or use jumpers.

As speaker cable goes it's not too expensive.  Just try it.

Hello
By braided, I mean twisting the two wires together, but you're telling me you're joining them with electrical tape, okay?

I bought two lengths of wire for my Focal Electra BE, one 12AG and the other 16AG, so I was wondering if anyone would experiment with using the two gauges together.

For me, the character of the 12AG is a little more toward the lower mids, and the 16AG a little more toward the upper mids.

Have you been able to compare the 10AG with either of these two?

I made a pair of speaker wire in 10AG and braided the + and - together.  See prior thread post. Also, I wired my speaker cabinets with the 12AG.  Nice synergy with the warm, detailed, full room live/life-like sound quality.  Really nice sounding wire in my system.  I do not use Duelund for IC’s they just don’t sound that good.   There are a lot better sounding choices available.
