Best US second hand dealers that ship overseas

Hi Fam,

I live in Australia but am looking to source second hand amps and possibly speakers from the US. Aside from US Audiomart and Audiogon are there any second hand dealers you'd recommend? Skyfi seems great but they don't have what I'm looking for. All states are consider as this will involve shipping.

Thanks

Pete

Look up The Music Room in Erie, CO  https://tmraudio.com/

I'm not sure about the overseas but you can always contact them.

Don't you have heavy "duty" to pay, apart from shipping? Japan is a good source for a lot of esoteric hi end and there are other places that may be nearer you. I don't know if AUS has any trade relations with countries that get a "pass" on import tariffs, but that's a big factor, isn't it?

In terms of the mechanics of shipping, it is usually encased, palletized and at best air freighted-- all of which costs money. There was a guy in NZ who was high end, he kinda went more mainstream. But my concern for you is the real cost to your door. What is it you are looking for? Some of the stuff may be gettable without buying in the States. From real dealers, with support.

Some things are cheaper even when you include import and tax and freight. Plus, things don’t show up that often on the secondary market. Specifically, I’m looking at Ayre AX 5 Twenty, Modwright 150SE or Modwright 225KWH. Speaker wise I’m considering Marten Oscar Duos, Wilson tunetots or maybe some stenheim monitors. This is all preliminary and not ready to pull the trigger as I need to move on my Decware mystery amp,

The Music Room is a great place for used gear.   They are strict on grading if they say it has minimal signs of wear , it is most likely in really good shape.  Not sure if they ship internationally

The items you are interested in are pretty rare on the US market, let alone for export. Is ASTL 220v or 120v?

Also check HIFISHARK as they list sales and availability globally.

I too live in Australia and have bought amps and speakers from the USA but that was before shipping costs went through the roof. Now I consider shipping and duty costs to be prohibitive. Twelve years ago I got Martin Logan Vantage speakers on Audiogon and shipping was A$ 700 but I still saved $4000 on the Australian price. I don't think you would get that sort of deal now as a 25kg amp would cost about A$500 to ship plus duty and insurance. Also good buys on Audiogon are difficult as most sellers won't ship overseas. I do know that Underwood will ship to Australia as will Parts Exchange in Canada but generally not speakers. Also occasionally some sellers on US and Canuck Audiomart will ship internationally.

Underwood doesn’t have anything I’m after unfortunately. I’m going to check out parts exchange. Cheers for the heads up. Even with tax’s and shipping the right bit of kit at the right price is way cheaper.

Hi Peter (optimalosteo),

Was there anything specific from our shop that caught your eye? Appreciate your interest with way.

We can ship anything from our shop worldwide via UPS, FedEx, or Air/Sea freight.

A good chunk of our sales are international so we have the process down to a science, items big or small.

Hi SkyFi,

Love your shop and have been checking it on the regular. I emailed before regarding Ayre Ax 5 Twenty or Modwright components. I remember you said you don't source components. I'll keep checking but feel free to email if anything comes through.

Cheers,

Pete
