Best drink while listening to your rig?

Your favorite...

For me (at the moment; subject to change in mood):
Single malt: Lagavulin
Beer: Westmalle Trippel
Wine: geessh... Caymus Cab? Nautilus Savignon Blanc (NZ)

Hi Jond...I will definitely give that a try, if it is still available.

And as for your recommendation, Calbrs, I just put that on the shopping list. How would a dash of dark rum go with that?

Thanks to you both!
While in Hawaii, try Pass-O-Gauva, available in most supermarkets, made by, I believe, Meadow Gold. You'll never drink orange juice again.
Cpdunn99,
Congrats on your move, have fun in paradise. I totally understand the urge to drink beer, but I have one local wine recommendation. It's called Maui Blanc, a white wine made from, believe it or not, pineapples! Though it's been about 15 years since I've had it I remember it as not too sweet, off-dry, and very fragrant and delicious. Give it a try, if they're still making it!
Having just moved to Hawaii, it seems I'm drinking beer with everything...well, with the exception of cereal (but that might change!!)
Interesting combo, Mariasplunge! Might have to try that sometime...when no one else is home :-)
Coors original with an egg and some calamato. Then and only then do I crank AC/DC
Am moving to Hawaii in two weeks...big change for a Scotsman and one that will force me to rethink my drink and music matches! What goes with Hawaiian steel guitar? Or with Don Ho (definitely not my kind of music, but may he RIP).
BLACK LABLE SCOTCH AND ANY BEER THAT'S CLOSE
PLEASE REMEMBER TO DRINK RESPONSIBILY WHILE LISTENING
vernors gingerale imported from michigan, big red imported from texas, and sioux city sarsaparilla from...you guessed it.
My own Organically Grown McLaren Vale Shiraz is not bad, Coopers Pale Ale in warmer weather.
Glenlivet,18 yr. single malt, and dry Chardonnay, and some of the Alsace Rieslings.
Cardenal Mendoza (Spanish brandy). Or a good Armagnac. In a pinch, Delamain cognac. Hennesy VSOP if I'm really slumming it.
Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA. This high octane brew (21%abv) ain't cheap or easy to find. The alcohol is well concealed. One of these and everything's a little better. If you can't find the 120's and chances are you can't go for the less potent but equally tasty 9o minute IPA.
Just saw this thread. Amazing that it is so long. Nice to see the liquor industry is doing well, even if the high end industry is not.

Mostly, I'm wondering if Coffeey ever found his lighter.
In the hot Florida summer which is now upon us I found this beverage to be most refreshing & nutritious while listening:

-2 Shots Brugal Anejo Rum in a tall glass.
-ice cubes 3/4 way to top of glass.
-fill glass just shy of full with purified seltzer water.
-splash of pure pink grapefruit juice (preferably not from concentrate, Indian River brand if you can find it.
-twist of lime & stir/enjoy.
to keep this thread alive!!!

Like I said in 2003, the BEST to drink while listen to any genre of music is Chinese liquor. They are not for weak minded, or "stomched", as most of them are over 100 proof(50% of alcohole by volume), but thwy are the best. Almost NONE existent hang over, unlike most Whisky or Cognec/XO. Pure as Votkha yet better, while subtle, in taste. Very delicate.

Most Chinese Grocery stores carry them. Belowe is a list of a few good ones:

(1) Red Star Er-Guo-Tu Ju, 112 proof. Green glass bottle with red label.
(2) LuoZhou LaoJiao TeQu, 104 proof. Clear glass bottle with gold label.
(3) Wu Liang Ye, 106 proof(?). Clear glass bottle with red label.

You wouldn't drink anything else once having tasted them. Yeah........

....
Kenblair ... with your favorite drink in hand and a TAB on your tongue, does the audio system actually have to be playing?
Any Calif cabernet sauvignon with substantial tannins; can ALWAYS get something very good in the $14-$20 range, or lower ... or higher, of course! Sauvignon blanc will do, too
Depends on my mood & the music -
Spirits: Bombay Martini, Jim Beam Sour or Mojito.
Beer: Samichlaus, Abbaye des Rocs Grand Cru or Old Milwaukee (no, i'm not joking)
Wine: Anything bone dry or else a big buttery Chardonnay

It HAS to go w/ a fine cigar. Something like a Montesino Diplomatico, Fuente Fuente Opus X Chateau or a Hoyo de Moterrey Excalibur 1066 Merlin.
Hot flavored coffee is the best...lol...or sometimes a cold Pepsi or can of ice tea.
Ciroc Snap Frosted Vokda! If the French did only one thing right, it had to be making vodka from grapes. Not at all what you think it would taste like(grapes)! I like mine ice cold and neat. Gives a very nice effect for listening!
The music calls its own drink. Jazz, such as Bobo Stensen (War Orphans or Serenity), suggests a Scotch. Jazz-funk like Bill Frisell's Unspoken beckons a Vodka Martini. Tool's Lateralus likes a Gin drink of some kind--or perhaps the clarity of a Don Julio Tequila (Blanco). Frifot (Scandinavian Folk) wants a lager. Bach's keyboard concertos go well with red wine. The Prokofiev piano concertos also like a couple of DJ Tequila Blanco shots.
Lately, I've been partial to Glenmorangie single malt scotch with a sherry wood finish. On a cold day a nicely aged Port is also good, especially if I have a fire going. After a day of backcountry skiing, I like sitting down to some music and a glass of Drambuie.
Sean, I was reading your post from 08-15-04, I know that's a while back, but I totally know where you're comming from man.
Ok I'll admit it, I really enjoy kool-aide tropical punch or grape. I'm still just a kid I guess.
Cognac: Anything French that's VSOP or better. VS would be ok too. Single Malt: Oban. American whisky: Gentelmen Jack. Canadian whiskey: Crown Royal. The reserve would be nice. Japanese sake: Otoko Yama, room temp, but warmed in the winter. Wine: I would love to talk about, but there's not enough time Beer: Anchorsteam.
Hi Blueranger, I'm not sure anyone is advocating drinking during each listening session ;-)
Bottled water you nincompoots. Why would you want to deaden your senses???????????????????????????? Dont listen and drink.
Pehare,i tryed that back in 76,trouble was nobody could manage to change the album,so we listened to Todd Rundgren a wizard a true star, over and over,,never heard it sound that good since,,,,
my favorite,,take 1 apple,1 beet,1 carrot,sm.handfull parsley,and put in blender or juicer,,,pure heaven!!
Cognac: Hennessy VSOP (prefered XO, but too expensive)
Tea: Vietnamese tea (from highland) or Chinese black tea
Wine: Geyser Peak Cab. (California)
Carlos I - Brandy
Blue Label scotch from JW
Mezcal - 10 years (Joya)
Oporto Vintage w/Te Amo #10 Reserva cigar
Almost any Bourdoux or RIbera del Duero Red Wine
Crown Royal; Grey Goose; Kardhu 16 yr single malt - on the rocks, but one at a time, not together
Lately, beer with frequent bumps of near-frozen Ketel One Citroen neat, alot of depressants quick to get stimulated
Sean.... yes, I like warm/room temp. beer. Have you had any of the Fullers vintage ales, or other such brews?
Hello guys first off booze sucks, canabis of course, where did my lighter go?Al
This post reminds me of the popular sitcom 'Father Ted', where 3 Catholic priests share a parish on Craggy Island. One of them (Father Jack) is a hardened alcoholic who has been known to drink brake fluid, floor polish and cough medicine, basically anything he can get his hands on.
Anyone remember 'Thunderbird' wine?
Nowadays I enjoy anything non liquor based, wine, sherry and the occasional beer.

Rooze
Ozfly: Believe me, as one gets older, you don't need any help "killing" brain cells. Hell, it's hard enough getting the ones that you have to work right as it is!!! And i'm not even "old" yet ( just turned 40 last month ). Sean
>
Sean, fortunately I'm still in shape ;-) I wonder how long it will be before I'm down to three or four brain cells. If it gets to that point, I hope they're the right ones! I'd hate to remember every Abba song but not remember a thing about audio, blues or jazz!
