Your favorite...

Vinylmeister... nicely put! Methinks I'll pop a bottle of something red tonight.
MILK??!! Actually, I have to drink some to coat my stomach sometimes...for medicinal purposes only!

Slipknot: tell me more about this beer! Great taste, though. The Macallan is great. I particularly like the 15yr. And your champagne recommendation is spot on. That one is better that Dom Perignon and is 1/3 the price (IMO).

Danlevy: Ummm....why am I not surprised?!
Jond: you have any particular recommendations for, say, a good Italian primitivo?
Contrary to Driver and others, I in fact, like a splash of something when doing serious listening.

Lgregoir: you have good taste (and must have a solid bank account)!

How do people manage two hobbies: high-end audio and high-end liquids?
Thanks for the primitivo recommendation, Jond!

So, ANOTHER QUESTION FOR THE BOARD:
We might have favorite food/drink pairings, but are there certain appropriate/acceptable combinations musical genre and drink? I mean, would you pair Bob Dylan with a Belgian beer, an typical American one, whiskey...?
Where are you, Goinbroke? Penfolds makes some good stuff, esp. for such a huge company.
Phasecorrect:

YES! Port, esp, during these Chicago winters, with some good classical or jazz... great!

You dring much LBV? The best deal, IMO, for LBV port is the 1994 Osborne. 95 points in my book, and even higher in James Suckling's, as I recall. Less than $20/bottle!!
Driver: I had no intention of causing offense. I thought, at first, you were joking, but on second reading, you weren't. I don't judge anyone about anything, unless they intentionally cause me pain/suffering. You haven't. My apologies.

Jmphotography: I'll have to look out for those. I hope there is a Chicago distributor. I tried a Canadian one called "Tres Pistoles" that was pretty good, although I was turned off a little by the gothic label.
Really, Pops?! Never heard of it. If Booker has got it right, I'll have to give it a try. I like Bourbon neat, so winter is a good time for sipping/
Pehare....hmmm.... There is also a Psilocybe mexicana, no?

Pops...with moniker like that, of course I trust you!
AGONANON: you put the strawberries in your Sauterne?! Sacre bleu!

Got a couple Sauternes here that I need help drinking:
Chateau Lafaurie-Peyraquey (1988)
Chateau Rabaud-Promis (1988)

JOE_B: Don't know about Smith & Woodhouse. Will check them out.
JOND: thanks for the recommendation about holding the Sauternes a little longer. WineSpectator was not much help in that department! What about a Chateau de Rayne-Vigneau 1997? Yes, with stilton!

KHRYS: Geeesh! Actually, been there recently!
Tres bien, Agonanon!

For Port lovers, an evening with a good bottle, good friend(s), good chamber music or jazz, nothing much better than some 1994 LBV (Osborne is a damn good deal). Have some 2000 vintage ports now cellaring.
Mghcanuck:
I had some Chateau d'Yquem from my father's cellar a few years ago. He bought some cases back in the 70s (can't remember what vintage). Wow!!!!

Ozfly:
I've had other Aberlour, but not the sherry cask one. I'll have to give it a try. Glenmorangie seems to have all kinds of casked malts now (sherry, port, etc.). Haven't tried them, tho'
Ozfly:

I match my drink to my mood, too, but also to the music. Actually, the music sets the mood (or my mood dictates the music), all of which dictates the drink! They're all linked.

I'll look for the Wild Horse. For summer whites, I'm also partial to New Zealand wines such as Nobilo, Nautilus, etc.
No, I haven't tried them. I will look for them. I like dark (porter, stout) and trappist styles. I don't know if the liquor store here carries them, other than the Trois Pistoles.

180 degrees F?!?!
Tried some California cab while listening last nigh: McManis 2001. A little rough, but will be great in a year. A nice chewy, tannin-laden wine that paired nicely, believe it or not, with Dylan.
Ozfly...I bought a case of Benziger chard. that I like a lot. Used to drink Meridian until they got bought by Nestle. Not a good reason, I know! I do like Meridian though, for a reasonable chard. Summer's here and time to stock up on some....

BTW: That McManis opens up nicely after an hour or so, but doesn't hold as long as it should once opened.

Got my screen door open and the smell of roses is wafting in.... wow...sorry for that aside.
OK, Auiophanatik!!! You know what you like! So, do those choices go with all music, or do you mix and match?
Audiphanatik,

none of that appeals to me, but I hope you don't mind if I found your post to be hysterical!
Now, here's a non sequitur.... listening to the Dead ("American Beauty") while sipping a 2000 Margauz.... actually, both are a little rough (wine needs to age), so maybe they are compatible.
[That should have been Margaux, above, not Margauz...]

Which part of the globe, Sunnyboy??
Really, Sunnyboy?! Yes, a well-kept secret! I must search for it. I have friends who get to that part of the world from time to time... I'll have to hit them up for some!
Sure, that would be great (e-mailing me images, that is). Thanks for the offer! cdunn@mortonarb.org
Have either of you (Pops and clbeanz) had Willy Nelson's bourbon? I can't remember the name of it... saw something on tv yesterday about it, though.
very interesting, Clbeanz.... thanks for this. I'll definitely look into these. I'm more of a single malt drinker, but you've convinced me to expand my horizons! Thanks!
Never heard of these liquors, Abe! Which music do they pair well with?! I'm in the Bay Area fairly often, so I'll have to check them out. We have a fairly sizable China Town here in Chicago... maybe I can find them here.
Bloody good idea there, matey! Eggnog with Capt. Morgan's might go well with some baroque holiday music, eh?
Any particular musical genre that matches nicely with Level?

Have you had Citadelle gin? French with crap load of different herbs. Interesting... very...
Clipsal: great post! Wish we could get some of those Australian brews "up over," as it were! Do you listen to the Waifs at all? Friend from Melbourne sent me two CDs. Kind of like them, actually.
Pops... thanks for the Plymouth recommendation. I'll keep a look out for it. I like gin with jazz, for some reason... maybe it's just the alliteration?
Hooper... first, which Grahams are you drinking? I've got some vintage 2000 aging in the cellar. Can't touch it for at least 20yr! Second, what does Port go best with? Haydn quartets, perhaps?!
"By the way, I always listen to music...I don't think I ever listen to the rig itself..." Well said, Ffontan!!
Ffontan... I understand completely... absolutely

Slipknot... and the motor drive, no doubt, is better for it, too?!
Hooper... yes, port and Jackson Browne is a good pairing! I know what you mean about evoking winter...
Galeriehughie... which Ch. d'Yquem vintages?! I'll be right over!! 2003 looks like it might be a good year for Sauternes... buying any futures?
Galeriehughie.... Yes, there are sauternes other than d'Yquem... Suiderat (sp?) for one. I have a few of those (mostly .350L) in the cellar. 2001 seems to be a sleeper vintage, doesn't it?! I've bought some futures, but not Mouton... some second growths like Haut-Bages-Liberal.

YBA: no, not me! I have a Plinius, but some here have been recommending that I trade it in for a YBA. Having not heard one, nor having one available to audition, I'm not about to make a change at the moment. Thinking about giving a tupe amp a try... seems like it might be a good match with my efficient Cabasse.

Back to inexpensive wines: 2003 Glen Carlou Chardonnay (Paarl, South Africa). I'm not a big Chard fan, but this is a nice one. Went well with oysters and fish and very nicely with Dianne Reeves' latest CD.
Sean.... yes, I like warm/room temp. beer. Have you had any of the Fullers vintage ales, or other such brews?
