AUDIOGON and REVERB No Protection

When you buy on either of these websites you have "NO" protection for your purchase.....If the deal goes South, so does your money..............I just lost 663.00 on Audiogon over a damaged amplifier that had 1600.00 worth of damage that no body would pay because of poor packing.................I just had a similar experence on Reverb, I returned the damaged speaker and "NO" refund and no good reason.......So if you don't have a out be careful.....

I haven't bought from Reverb recently, but I've bought a lot of guitars on there.  Had a few issues and Reverb stepped up and made the sellers address the issue. Either a return or partial refund. I used Reverb payments, so that may make a difference.

Reverb was quick and effective with my refund. One might still have a bad experience, but calling it "no protection" is unwarranted. Damage in transit is always a sticky situation, which is why I try to deal in person or with insured carriage whenever possible.

Adding to the above responses, I too have had solid backing from Reverb for damaged or misrepresented gear. No issues to speak of other than their timeframe is tight.

AG on the other hand…….

Reverb offers a type of insurance option to the seller for a cost; they'll take care of any issues that arise with shipping for the person making the sell.

May be one of the possible reasons for the service received as the purchaser.

My last seller had the Audiogon insurance, it is worth-less............When they found that the amp was poorly pack they declined all claims..........When you buy a policy you just waste your money be cause if the damage is caused by you they won’t pay.....Its no different with UPS or Fed-ex, you pay them for insurance and you really get nothing.................Fed-ex never pays !!! Most of the items I buy are over 1000.00 and you would be surprise how few times I have ever collected.......Actually never.......There is really no solution if someone doesn’t pack something well........You will generally lose unless you buy on E-bay, Ebay always pays.............W

And I will say that Reverb has made a much bigger effort to return my money for damaged goods.......One of the problems is to get through the paper work , which almost looks like it is designed to confuse..... I buy a lot of items that don't travel well so If you shipper doesn't pack properly, so you have a big chance of losing everything...........W

Never use paypal or a debit card. Both directly draws money from your account. If you have an issue no one cares because its your money. If you use a credit card, its the banks money. You'll get a lot more help to recover your loss.

"I have always found PayPal quite helpful ...."

Until they make a mistake and expect you to pay for it. They only know one thing. Its not their fault. And its your money and they have no incentive to help you.

O52:   I will use a credit card more, I have always used P/P which is also hard to work with.........Reverb has made more improvements than anyone, if they will stick with it and not let it slide..........Audiogon has done nothing to improve the very bad system and service and the scam artist know it..............You can lose a lot of money dealing on Audiogon and nobody there cares at all.................I even left neg feed-back for my seller and they took it off, and when I ask about why ??   I got no responce, that's what Audiogon will do for you.............W
