Fans of Magnepan are buzzing about the debut of the LRS (Little Ribbon Speaker), $650/pair! If you have 3' to put behind each panel, there is no reason to settle a box speaker. All quasi-ribbon drivers mounted on a flat panel (no box resonances to "tune"), for a true low-mass loudspeaker. |
Agree the new PS Audio speakers did not impress. Again the Paradigm Persona 3F were just ok if they were a $2500 speaker. Would have thought with the room correction it would have been much better. |
I also thought the PS audio speakers were hilariously underwhelming.

If many agree here PS speaker is BS How can they approve & release it? huge dent in brand.

Thanks for brutally honest opinion. It shows there are few good reviewer who cannot be influenced.

The Salks were the 9's model at $10k I believe. They have one at $5k with the same mid and uppers just less bass. Value there I think. Loved the Salk sound too.
Heard the Sasha/D'Agostinos and enjoyed that room. Costs aside.
Agreed the PS was BS. They should make a deal with their neighbor Roger Sanders if they wish to make speakers. He nails it.
Loved the Irish guy at Innous. Product is a winner too!
Vandys won the Best Photo Opportunity with the huge Crimson speakers and splashy Blue backdrop. That did make the sound better sadly.
With you AD on the Vimbergs. Lovely. Damn I missed the Electrostatics from Muir. Not listed in the book!!!
The AN room had a live cellist and that was a classy touch I loved!
Paradigms were good too. Probably because they employed an Anthem room conditioner. Did not start with it but at least these folks knew they needed one. (As did ALL the smaller rooms)
A fun show all in all. Even if I had hoped to be home in Phoenix by now. Thanks weather!

Enjoyed the KEF Muon's I heard yesterday as well. The ultra low bass was startling in its power and control. Biggest disappointment was the Wilson Audio- Dan D’Agostino room. This massive set up and both times I went to visit they were playing solo piano music. Yes- was nice, but could not appreciate the full capability...
Nice to see my local dealer in Milwaukee getting a shout out- Ultra Fidelis. They were getting great sound in a small difficult room with the Vandersteen Quattro CT's. |
I got to hear Sasha DAW’s mates to an ARC pre and tubed monos (160’s?). Not anywhere as impressed as it thought I’d be considering the cost.
Dying to hear the Buchardts |

One of my favor room was Piega swiss Speakers with audio note.
I agree with PS audio. I expected more I guess too much hype in advance.
Another excellent room Nagra/ Karma
Luxman triangle.
Piegas were amazing.
Great show and Shelby Lynne concert.
Just my impression. We all hear different things and hotels rooms are not the best to judge equipment. |
The feedback I got was that this certainly was not like the old RoomTune days. But, I can understand that would come from those who are the RoomTuning followers. Michael Green |
Went to AXPONA on Saturday. Believe the Vandy System 9 setup was off. Best in show for me was Ultra Fidelis room with Vandersteen Quatro CT with Vandersteen amplification. Superb sound from Jon Spelt and staff. |
Which Alta did you hear? Was going to go this morning but the 5+ inches of snow kept me home☹️ |
Overall I would say the sound was much better this year. I think the previous attendants learned their lesson last year and really stepped it up. I loved those big a$$ horns and gave myself a chuckle at the thought of using 5 of them in a surround system. The ps audio speakers need more tweaking imo they were to dark sounding.finally got to hear the kef muon in a large room. The $5k speakers from AQ sounded really good and look more expensive than they are. I can’t remember the salk sounds model but it sounded superb. Excellent show. |
I cant think of a worse place to evaluate the performance of a system than a hotel room at an audio show, except maybe a gymnasium. The point of these shows is to see whats new and talk to the manufacturers and designers. Judging performance.... not so much.

Huge room with speakers very far apart.
Personally not Vandy fans even CT tweeter sounds soft.
Very few giant rooms have adequate bass.
Lots of cool things very few amazing rooms especially for the money.

We were also underwhelmed by the Vandersteens. Went back twice hoping it was just the track or where we were sitting.
Last year I believe there was a model 5A with an all Acoustic Research front end that we really enjoyed. This year's room was a let down. |
That's disappointing to hear about the Vandersteen 9. Was it just not pressurizing the room? The bass is supposed to be State of the art. |
Vandy 9 not good.
Best sounds today
Wilson Daw Arc system spectacular.
Vimberg-Karan also sounded spectacular.
Surprise new Golden Ear Triton R fantastic at $6k

You check out the Vandersteen system nine? |
Did the founder of Innous previously work for Antipodes?
