I have an opportunity to upgrade my 20 year old Audible Illusions L2 preamp to a new L3A through Audible Illusions. The L3A list price is $4695 and they offered it for $2247 with my L2 as a trade. Am I going to hear a $2000 improvement?
Yes, it is well worth it. The L3A is similar to the Modulus 3B which was night and day better than the Modulus 3A. If you do the deal, make sure Art has the L3A in stock to ship so you won't have to wait months or yerars for
It’s unlikely, unless the new model is a complete revamp from the older one. There is a point of diminishing returns at play here, and that’s what you should consider in deciding whether to replace what you have.
I really could not equate a $ value to performance ratio but up to 4 years ago I had been running the AI Modules 3A for 9 years traded it in on a Modulas 3B both with the JC boards and the improvement was significant and to tell the truth was just hoping for it to be as good as the 3A, so I guess I won. Now with all that said the time it took Al to build the 3B and get it to me was 16 months and since I was retiringI lost confidence in them and switched brands.
