Are their paid boosters on Audiogon?

I've seen it suggested that there are Audiogon members who receive some sort of undisclosed consideration from dealers or manufacturers to promote or denigrate certain products, vendors, etc.? That's an interesting, somewhat discouraging thing if its real. Just wondering what the group thinks of that- is it true, and if so how prevalent is the practice.

With one notable exception (no longer on the forum) I've never really suspected that, but never gave it much thought.  There are dealers who just happen to have the perfect product whatever the need may be, but the selling is in the open and nothing is disguised. There are those who always recommend the brands they own, but I tend to put that down to human nature- we all tend to believe our choices are the best choices. We are lucky to have the expertise of incredibly talented designers who add a lot and are kind to freely share their vast knowledge with us-something I truly appreciate.

So, I've never really suspected there are paid shills here, but maybe I'm naive. I know there are YouTubers who receive benefits from sellers-some disclose that, but I think a lot don't, which is unfortunate. I hope that doesn't happen here.

Thoughts?

@mapman ....but where do we 'volunteer'?

My 'style' would certainly be noticed, esp. the cable/IC's ones'....

"This Noodnik cable is so damn tough, watch me as I tied up my assistant
Sue Z with it!'  (as she giggles 'in a fashion...).....

Of course I'll have to cut it short before it gets interesting.....
...which is why you'll watch the next episode despite y'bad self....🤦‍♂️😏

I brought up the protestors because it was relevant to the conversation.

Protestors are relevant to a discussion regarding whether there are paid boosters on an audio site?  Ha ha ha!

Let me break it down in simple terms that you can understand.

The question in the OP was if there were paid members to either shill or denigrate products on this forum. The protesters I refer to were paid by someone to denigrate a person or a belief. These are very similar things. If you can't make that connection, I can't help you.

Of course there is payola on here, there and everywhere.

What deeply concerns me is that nobody has offered to pay me. Now THATS unfair!

About 12 years ago one of my patients talked me into hiring a “digital consultant “.  I wanted to have a website-I tried doing it myself with one of those templates and the results were awful- and maybe some kind of patient portal so I hired his recommendation. The guy then pitched me relentlessly to add services, one of which would be fake testimonials placed on various sites.

If this stuff goes on on the small medical practice level, it must be going on in an industry where companies depend upon people making large purposes and increasingly relying on word of mouth (keyboard?).

What is Millercarbon up to these days?
