Are their paid boosters on Audiogon?

I've seen it suggested that there are Audiogon members who receive some sort of undisclosed consideration from dealers or manufacturers to promote or denigrate certain products, vendors, etc.? That's an interesting, somewhat discouraging thing if its real. Just wondering what the group thinks of that- is it true, and if so how prevalent is the practice.

With one notable exception (no longer on the forum) I've never really suspected that, but never gave it much thought.  There are dealers who just happen to have the perfect product whatever the need may be, but the selling is in the open and nothing is disguised. There are those who always recommend the brands they own, but I tend to put that down to human nature- we all tend to believe our choices are the best choices. We are lucky to have the expertise of incredibly talented designers who add a lot and are kind to freely share their vast knowledge with us-something I truly appreciate.

So, I've never really suspected there are paid shills here, but maybe I'm naive. I know there are YouTubers who receive benefits from sellers-some disclose that, but I think a lot don't, which is unfortunate. I hope that doesn't happen here.

Thoughts?

Well if protestors in real life can be paid, why not reviewers (or detractors) on an audio forum?

I think both are despicable, but here we are.

Which protesters are being paid?

I don't want to steer this thread into political waters, so I'll refrain from giving examples.

If he were to bring up "examples" of paid protestors, he'd be laughed out of the room. Gotta love it when someone posts something politically provocative and then demurs about explaining it for fear of things taking on a political perspective.

I brought up the protestors because it was relevant to the conversation. I don't play silly games like you and your ilk around here do. If you'd like we can continue this conversation off line.

Protestors are relevant to a discussion regarding whether there are paid boosters on an audio site?  Ha ha ha!

Let me break it down in simple terms that you can understand.

The question in the OP was if there were paid members to either shill or denigrate products on this forum. The protesters I refer to were paid by someone to denigrate a person or a belief. These are very similar things. If you can't make that connection, I can't help you.

I tried to explain it to you as though you were a five year old. Sadly, I overestimated my audience.
