Peak listening levels-
Al's comment on dynamic range vs. listening levels is spot on. The wider the dynamic range the higher the level I'm listening at. Primarily because otherwise you just can't hear the content at the very lowest level.
Thorens "Kugelarm"
Everyone is right. The arm was made out of noodles and potato. After standing for a few days kugel gets hard but can be carved. Excellent resonance rejection because its made out of a single chunk of kugel carved to the right shape. Same idea as t...
Peak listening levels-
100dB at my chair. Listening today with an SPL meter nearby saw reading max out at 102, and more typically high 80's to mid 90's
Recent cd players w/ analog output/volume control
Look at the Audiolab, they have CD player that also incorporates a peamp, which should fit your bill. I think its around the $1500 mark new. And you get a full function preamp!
Soundstage vs background noise?
I appreciate all the comments. Ralph, my experience is that tubes are just noisier than solid state. Admittedly I do not listen to music with my ear 4 inches from the tweeter, but I have to tell you, at that close range I always heard a hiss throu...
What speakers should I consider around $5000?
As an owner of F30's, perhaps I can add something. Cables matter. I have settled on Analysis Plus Solo Crystal IC's - my reference for years and available pretty reasonably on the used market. My speaker cables are Nordost.Originally I also used t...
LP12 upgrades
The single biggest improvement I experienced with my LP 12 was the Lingo, which surprised me. A much bigger deal than when I added an Ekos arm. And last summer I had my table tuned up by a longtime Linn guy in Westchester. That breathed life on th...
Primaluna prologue 2 based system upgrade
I'm going to suggest something free. Go to the Cardas website. They have a speaker/room placement calculator which I found to be pretty effective. What was most unexpected is that the bass locked into the room better when I placed the speakers per...
cartridge plays the radio
It's not your cartridge but rather you phono preamp setup
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought?
1976, Queen, Night at the Opera
Wildly fluttering woofer
Had same situation. It was my phono stage. Got it fixed, problem solved
Manufacturer Repairs? What is a reasonable time?
3 months is unacceptable. In recent years my service experiences have all been good. Bryston was unreal. I shipped an amp Monday and I had it back on Thursday. Rogue did a repair in a week including shipping. Magnum Dynalab was also very quick. I'...
warm sounding cartridge for rega arm
Grados will likely hum as you get to the inner grooves. I tried a Grado on an AR table and couldn't take the hum. The Shure may fit your bill, but so may a Rega cartridge such as the Bias 2. I would pick the Bias
Rega DAC: Cable suggestions
The Rega Couple is a natural choice
New lease on life for a pair of Ohm F's
Tech Hifi- where I heard the F's, where the EPI's came from, and I even remember their house brand, Studio Design.
