Replacing the stock power cable of the TT
Well, I don't think a different power cord on a TT will improve tracking. Beyond that, I think there's better ways to improve a planar 3 involving power supply such as an external speed controller, which would allow you to set the Planar 3 to the ...
Oldest piece of gear you own
Ebm's response would apply to me as well if the gear were still in use. Well, at least I think my stereo loves me.

How to protect turntable from children?
It's called the wrath of dad. Seriously, I taught my kids early on you don't touch moms stuff or dads stuff without permission. Besides these days the are far more interested in their MacBook pros, iPods, iPhones, etc. My older one is asking for a...

Why is Dynaudio so much cheaper in Europe?
Never did a direct import of anything that needs to be plugged in. But other stuff- sure, and I've never bought into the scare tactics that some US distributors use. Other than a phono cartridge direct import, I did a tonearm and cables. All were ...
Why is Dynaudio so much cheaper in Europe?
Years back I was interested in a phono cartridge made in the UK.a local dealer carried it, and I priced it locally and from a hifi shop in the UK that was more than happy to ship to the US. With insured shipping from the UK, the price was literall...
Anyone try Mogami Neglex for balanced interconnect
Well now I am using the Mogami gold between my tuner (md105) and my integrated (Pass Int-150). Solid results, good imaging, dynamics to burn. Do I sell my Analysis Plus Solo Crystal Ovals (2m) which in this crazy hobby isn't considered expensive b...

I have had my Nakamichi clock radio now for 23 years. Works great sounds pretty good too? Long out of production but worth searching out. No idea what they Go for today.
Wireworld oasis 6 interconnect oppinionins
I have a pair of the Oasis 7, one meter, which I think is stunningly good, and a bargain at the asking price. Sure it's made in China, but that why it's not 3 times the price. Yes, IMHO, better than PBJ (which after looking at them I think they sh...
Soundstage vs background noise?
I've have a dedicated 20A line for years. The Rogue is an integrated, but my CJ gear, an MV60SE and LS172, where seperates. Presently I am not running any balanced lines but years back when I had an Pass Pre and M L amp, I ran all balanced. My pho...
Peak listening levels-
Al's comment on dynamic range vs. listening levels is spot on. The wider the dynamic range the higher the level I'm listening at. Primarily because otherwise you just can't hear the content at the very lowest level.
Thorens "Kugelarm"
Everyone is right. The arm was made out of noodles and potato. After standing for a few days kugel gets hard but can be carved. Excellent resonance rejection because its made out of a single chunk of kugel carved to the right shape. Same idea as t...
Peak listening levels-
100dB at my chair. Listening today with an SPL meter nearby saw reading max out at 102, and more typically high 80's to mid 90's
Recent cd players w/ analog output/volume control
Look at the Audiolab, they have CD player that also incorporates a peamp, which should fit your bill. I think its around the $1500 mark new. And you get a full function preamp!
