Tell us your worst audio dealer or mfr. experience.
I count myself as pretty lucky. I have never had a bad experience with either a manufacturer or a store. I bought my first hifi gear 40 years ago, and yes, there have been a few repairs now and then, but everything has been handled very well. This...
Simaudio or luxman dac?
Price tag should never be a determining factor, Especially with Luxman- in Japan the DA-06 is less than 1/2 the price it costs in the US. Somehow that trip across the pacific boosts the price over 100% and isn't that impressive?
Simaudio or luxman dac?
I own Sim digital gear- no complaints. Probably the best all in one CD player I ever heard was the 650D
Help ! Best MC cartridge for Linn LP12?
I guess I am lucky. My LP12 is tremendously musical. My digital side, with a Bricasti M1 at its core, is also extremely musical. Perhaps this is why I've not changed gear in years.
Help ! Best MC cartridge for Linn LP12?
If I were starting in vinyl from scratch and I had a $15,000 -$20,000 budget for vinyl playback gear I would seriously consider an SME 20 with a Series V arm. It's a little different with many of us LP 12 guys. I strongly suspect we wound up with ...
Mcitosh balance canle
No, MacIntosh does not manufacture cable. Like Bryston, they do make cabling available under their name. For balanced cables at low prices I always recommend Mogami Gold. Typically excellent and not much coin. I also like Acoustic Zen balanced cab...
Has anyone else tried DNM solid core cable?
First, cable price is no indicator of how good a cable sounds. It is likely more related to the physical thickness of the entire cable system, which often is some wire, layers and layers go whatever, and some nice techflexYears back I obtained som...
Help ! Best MC cartridge for Linn LP12?
Were I in the OP's situation, I would go Kandid and call it a very good day. Sure, Linn is not the bleeding edge best, but it's quite good. Kandid and Ekos SE is frankly a no brainer in teems of a match. I do note I have owned my LP12 since 1998 a...
Vintage Mcintosh tuner
I own an MR78 and loving it. It has been one through with the caps being replaced. No problems recommending that tuner. The MR71 and MR67 are also quite good, albeit somewhat differently flavored (typical tubes v solid state stuff). Between the MR...
Spend more money on the amp or the pre-amp?
I have been convinced for a long time that a great preamp is the heart of a system. At $800, as others have said, I would go for an integrated, but at higher price points, I don't see a hard and fast rule. The days my preamp ratio is 45:55. Some y...
Is the upgrade from Scout 1.1 to the Prime worth it?
I never heard the Scout but I have heard the Prime and I was wowed by it. Excellent table.
What type of Audio Gal or Guy are you? Do You Know?
Satisfied audiophile. My system has been stables for a few years and I have zero desire the update or upgrade my gear. I happen to think my system is quite good. At this point it's all about the music because I'm not putting any $ into gear.
Appropriate Power for 1.7i's
A 4B ST  with 1.7's should work fabulously
Conrad Johnson--does anyone use this brand anymore?
Re Coppy777's question if I miss that something you get with tubes- with the Pass gear, truthfully, not at all. However, if I truly do need or want a tube fix, it's not beyond my reach. I have built a couple of tubed headphone amps.
Conrad Johnson--does anyone use this brand anymore?
I had CJ gear for years. I had an MV60SE amp and a 17LS2 preamp. I've since  switched to Pass, an XP20 and X250.8. I've lost nothing and gained much by switching. Ultimately I found CJ gear a little too golden. I hear zero solid state nasties on m...
