Don't Think I'll Buy This...
Before you get too critical of improper English or poor writing and communication, remember that many contributing members of AGON do not have English as their first language. Lets see, what if we asked everyone to write their adds in French or Ge...
Why does my system sound better??
Old speakers sounded better than I remembered. This is quite possibly true!New speakers sounded better than I remembered. This is probably true since you just listened to the old ones, and the new ones sounded so much better!
Has anyone heard the Ref 3?
Yes, Agaffer was kind enough to bring his Ref 3 over for a comparison to my LS25 MK II. I was anxious to hear whether all the excitement about the Ref 3 was significant enough for the substantially higher cost. Also, I have not done a head on head...
Electrical fields
The breaker box is metal shielded and grounded, so the only issue is if you are picking up electric fields from the wires as they go into the box. Keep your power cord perpendicular to the wall with the box and you should be OK even at 2 ft.
Small circulating fan to cool amps
If you have a 12v trigger on your pre, you can run a small PC type cooling fan directly off the trigger output. Check the current requirement of the fan against the current available on the trigger.
Von Schweikert DB99 or Vandersteen 5A ??
Much has been said about the virtues of the 5As. One thing that sold me on them is that I could not "hear" any artifacts of the cabinet, drivers, or crossovers. These speakers are very natural - and the music is incredibly suspended in space with ...
How U determine first and second reflection points
Don't forget the reflection points from the rear wall. In a wide room, these can be more intrusive at the listening position than the reflections off the side walls. As a rule of thumb, if the distance the sound travels from the speaker to the ref...
Audio Research PH5
The Ph5 is very close to the ARC Ref Phono. Very quiet, very detailed, very dynamic. It is a tremendous value for the price. ARC was able to lower their costs by redesigning the cabinet (clamshell, not rigid box with independent lid). Give it a li...
Realy Stupid Question- how do you pronounce Teres?
I think it is like "terrace" = raised level place.
Listening triangle
I agree that every room is different and you must experiment. Your lack of a second boundary wall means a non symetrical arrangement, which is more challenging. That being said, here are guidelines that have worked for me. In a large room such as ...
Phono stage picking up radio signals?
Neil, great explanation of "shotgun" topology, and the purpose of the "arrowhead". Most people I know think the arrowhead indicates the directionality of interconnects caused by the grainular structure of the conductor. You have cleared it up.
Int tube amp + XLR inputs.
ARC VT100 and up.
Room Problem Improvement Question: Over a Garage
Owl, I have a similar room over a 2 car garage. The floor was somewhat spongy and was driven into a strong resonance at 31 hz. This was solved by building a beam out of 2x6s in the shape of a "T" and lag bolting the top of the "T" to each joist ac...
What happened to AIVS?
Try pfrumkin1@comcast.net or audiointelligent@comcast.net
Why am I experiencing listener's fatigue?
I'm with Goinbroke. Too much toe in. Try none and work in from there. Many speakers are designed and voiced for no toe in, and it is only used to ameliorate side wall issues when room treatments are not an option.
