Newbie balanced cable help
The CD3 MKII will sound better when run balanced. AQ cables are a very good match with ARC, and I would recommend an Amazon XLR.
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
I was just cautioning those who might not be sensitive to needle mounting variations. Their existence serves to strenghten the need to get SRA and azimuth close, and then make small adjustments either way while listening for the optimum setting. I...
How to set SRA after determining true vertical?
One additional variable is the mounting of the needle on the cantilever. If you examine a number of cartridges head on, you will find that the needles are not all set perfectly perpendicular to the cantilever or the headshell. Errors can be up to ...
Window Treatments to Remove reflected sound
I agree with Dougmc. I have plastic 3 in. regular shutters on all windows. Turned at 45 deg., they provide good mid/high diffusion and light control to boot! Wood might work even better. (Lets, see... maple? (:-))
Audio Research CD3/CD3 MkII: how much difference?
Whipsaw, so what did you decide?
Littlite-Which one to buy?
Doug, what is the size of the base on the L-18-LED gooseneck? I'm trying to figure out if it would fit on my stand. (sorry for the interruption, Mark)
calling vandersteen 5a owners
I've not faced this situation. However, my guess is that once the sub is broken in, and especially the cones loosened up, it wouldn't take but a few hours to get back to snuff. You might try some thing like the Granite Audio "Extreme System Workou...

Vandersteen 3a sigs/ 2wq vs. 5a or 5
I have owned multiple Vandersteen speakers and heard many of them in different rooms. IMO, the 5As, properly driven and set up, are head and shoulders above all of the others. No contest. The 5A simply reveals more information with less distortion...
Importance of wall behind listener?
In my room, the wall behind me is 20 ft. away, and I use no diffusors or absorbers. The sound stage is wide, high and deep.
Time To Replace Tubes?
There are a few amps that are manufactured with a digital clock built in so you can keep track of "on time" and have some approximate idea of when the tubes might need attention (some ARC amps for one). It is also interesting just to have some ide...
Audio Research CD3/CD3 MkII: how much difference?
I bought a CD3 new and had it for several months before having the opportunity to get it upgraded to the MkII. So I was very familiar with the overall sound in my system. The MkII is a definite improvement assuming your system can reveal it. I fou...
Any member feedback from C.E.S. 2006?
The Quatro now comes as an option with wood up both sides, and up the front to the bottom of the drivers (~ 75%). The full sock is eliminated in favor of just a small grill over the drivers. The insides are the same. This gives buyers a choice of ...
