what are the best sounding Accuphase or Luxman amps/preamps?
@toronto416 I was in Toronto for a month in July-Aug and went to this guy's shop in Ajax. I went to hear the Clarisys speakers with a killer CH Precession amp. Home - Audio by Mark Jones They also had the Luxman m10x and I had a quick listen to ...
Siamese Dream - Sound Quality?
The Siamese Dream remaster from 2011 is definitely hotter sounding than the 1993 disk. Everything is louder and I even get a little bit of fatigue from the remaster. The 1993 CD sounds more subdued in comparison, but it also does not sound like it...
Siamese Dream - Sound Quality?
Siamese Dream is a classic album and one of the greatest in the grunge era. I can give a response on the sq of the CD next week when I am back home. BTW - a couple of recent Pumpkins releases are surprisingly amazing. I will post my new favs next...
SimAudio Moon North Collection
I live in California and the dealer is in Canada. I cannot bring anything to the shop in Canada and when I go home there is zero chance of doing any demos. I live in Los Angeles area, with great audio shops but I will be too busy with 2 full-time ...
SimAudio Moon North Collection
The systems are different, but the sonic signature of an amp is rather easy to hear in a good system. Are you talking about the Luxman m900u and the 10x? That was rather easy to hear with respect of the warmth of the amps. The speakers were Harbe...
Peachtree Gan 400
I owned this amp 2x and it was very good for the price I paid ($1000). It had a tiny bit of fatigue with my very neutral preamp, but with a warmer preamp it would be rather impressive.
Help - is Krell dead?
George Meyer AV in Los Angeles They did a good job on my KRELL "repair".
Replacing My Maggie 3.6R
@jc4659 Please post your impressions of the Clarisys after your auditions. Thanks! I decided to visit Mark Jones Audio in Ajax, Ontario, Canada to hear the Clarisys speaker. They had the most expensive one in a room that was too small for it....
SimAudio Moon North Collection
I went and heard the Luxman 10x amp for a short period at a dealer today. It was an improvement on the Luxman m900u for my ears. I liked the 900 a lot but thought it was too warm. The 10x is not as warm and a touch warmer than the SimAudio 761 tha...
Start with Upgrade to DAC?
@mike4597 I saw you mention that you are considering using room treatments. You can use the physical treatments like I use in my office. Very ugly but they work well, and the wife stays out of the office, so she does not care how ugly they are. N...
Start with Upgrade to DAC?
@zarf I think the best bang for your buck streamer, especially if you use ROON, is the Sonore OpticalRendu. I have owned about 5 or 6 of them. I sold a few to friends and setup their streaming. I currently have 2 of them with both the audiophile p...
Start with Upgrade to DAC?
I queried Schiit as to whether I would be able to detect a significant difference between the Bifrost and the Yggdrasil, and their surprising answer was "no."  This answer maybe different based on who you spoke with at Schitt. I called them a ...
Start with Upgrade to DAC?
I had 3 great streamers in the house at the same time and did direct comparisons. There were big differences in sound. I would not say one was better than the other, but the differences were easily evident. I wrote many posts on this. Lumin X1 ...
Schiit Audio feedback
I have a few Schitt items. I find the Yggdrasil+ OG and LIM DACs are reference level for me. That is after comparing (owning) many DACs from the $1k-$3k range, and one $15k. The Yggi+(s) saved me a lot of money to spend on other gear. The Schitt ...
Amp for Persona B Speakers
I have heard the Persona lineup with both the SimAudio 860 v1 and last week with the SimAudio 761 from the North Collection. The 761 was really great and one that I would like to get in the future for my slightly warm speaker. However, I still fe...
