Why warm amps sound better.
My Class A amps warm up very quickly - maybe 30 minutes, after which they don't change sound.  Which is a good thing considering that this sort of amp uses full current at idle and puts it out as heat (they actually put out less heat when making s...
Using tube amp with electrostatic speakers.
One data point.I use Martin Logan CLS (original) in one system and although I have auditioned tube amps with them, I have found that solid state amps with good power supplies work by far the best.  Mine are run with a stereo Classe DR3 VHC (a whop...
Looking to buy floor standing speakers in $1000 per speaker range.
Go for a good pair of used Vandie 2C!Way more bang for your buck than any new speaker I can think of.
Wilson Maxx II problem
I own the same speakers.Don't mess around - send the driver to Wilson and get it checked out and repaired or replaced!  Might be a simple issue.....
help a Die hard ANALOG guy choose a budget CDP
I'll second (or third) the Emotiva.I have switched to digital from a server these days, but still wanted a stand a lone player and bought an ERC-3, which I run through my DAC (a Hegel, that does indeed sound better than the on board circuitry on t...
Just bought used Wilson audio Sophia 1 and Wilson audio center channel comments
Are you sure you even need a centre channel?I also run Wilsons (Maxx2) and the main speakers sound better using a phantom centre - pin point imaging etc. that I elected not to use the centre channel that I have.
Help wanted: Bass!
Your front end looks superb, but the speakers just don't have a lot of bass extension - expect that is the problem.Switch speakers or bite the bullet and add a musical subwoofer (Vandersteen, Hsu etc.)
Should I buy a Class A Amp.
Not all Class A amps sound good, but all of the best sounding amps I have owned have been Class A.I still run Classe DR3 VHC (105 lbs each, put out about 800 watts into heat when idling, and will drive anything out there (mine used to drive Apogee...
When and what was your last significant equipment upgrade?
Vandersteen 4A to Wilson Maxx 2s.
Lyra Kleos vs Koetsu Urushi
No experience with that Lyra (still have an old Clavis in a second system) but run an Urushi in my main system and have never felt the need to look any further!
How to merge home theater with 2 channel
I run from pre outs on the HT receiver to an input on my stereo preamp and match levels (requires a microphone and set up program)If your main speakers are of sufficient quality, consider going with a phantom centre channel. This set up allows you ...
Inboard phono stage in a 7k+ integrated, how good versus standalone units?
Updating is the key. Many phono stages are excellent at the time they were created but become dated as progress is made in circuit design.  Unless your unit has the capability of changing out circuit boards to update, eventually whatever you have w...
Any thoughts on a solid hickory platform under my tt
Green wood does damp but still rings.  Dry it out ad it gets worse. You want something that doesn't ring and that has mass to block vibration coming up from below.I use 2" thick slabs of Brazilian granite - I used to use a large cement paving stone...
Does anyone run 2 or more turntables...
I have two complete operational turntables, a VPI and a Sota Cosmos.  I have briefly run them in one system (the preamp,, which no one has probably heard of, a Classe DR7 has two on board phono stages), but now run them in two separate systems.
Curious .. What is the compared price of your tt vs spkrs
It's not like there is a directly proportional relationship between price and sound quality.  You can have an under-performing front end or speaker and the other end of the chain might be an over-performer that functions at a much higher level tha...
