Oldest gear still for sale is . . .
Not many components can say they have been in commerce for a long time, but haven't become dated and superseded by more current gear,The SME V arm came out in 1985, was considered one of the handful of top tonearms available, and continues now, 32...
What is your speaker ownership history since 1995?
Some of you guys seem indecisive as heck - changing speakers every year or so......I've used (in my systems with asterisks on speakers I still own and use) :Spica AngelusEnergy Reference ConnoisseursVandersteen 4A*Martin Logan CLS*Wilson Maxx 2*I'...
Best Subwoofer To Use With A Two Way Speaker System
If you get a chance listen to some Hsu subs.  Surprisingly good!
Koetsu surprise
FWIW, I find that the Urushi works very well with a moderate, rather than light tonearm (i.e. 10 g +). I use an SME V and am pleased with the results. I have heard that the cartridge works even better with higher mass arms, but I haven't got aroun...
If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
Apparently some manufacturers believe that owners are more likely to screw up the sound with biamping and others  support it. I biamp my  Vandersteens as they are set up for it. Class A monos up top and Class ABs with plenty of current on bass...
Turntable Dust Cover Option
I use a VPI TNT which is an oversize turntable.  I believe that VPI does/did offer a quite expensive cover for it, but I simply got some plexiglass rod stock, cut six equal length legs and glued them to a sheet of plexi.  Keeps most of the dust th...
Best Class A Amp under $2,000 used?
Class A does often sound very good - I used Classe DR3 VHC which with 45 watts will drive low efficiency speakers like Apogee Scintillas, and Belles A.I don't think you will find, nor need anything like the Class A power you are asking for to driv...
Has anyone considered rebuying a speaker you once owned??
I'd consider buying another pair of Spica Angelus - superb imaging, if not the lowest bass around.
The value of of the sealed record.
Music lovers open and listen; hoarders store them away unopened.
Wilson Audio floor jack
Yeah, but the Wilson jack no doubt comes blessed by those on high.....Thanks so much for posting this - I just ordered one as I am feeling guilty for keeping my Maxx2s on casters because I don't want to face having to tilt them to get the casters ...
Why no tube loaner/testdrives--It's hard being an audiophile
I narrowly avoided buying an Audio Research SP-10 preamp once.  I came to my senses thinking about the time it would take to track down which of the 15 tubes had gone out if something happened.Currently running a CJ Premier preamp with 4 tubes, al...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ?
I have ripped all my CDs to NAS redundant drives (and now wonder what to do with the boxes of CDs I have) and have hit  a double handful or so that won't read in part or in whole. My sample size is currently 3,679 CDs.
Used turntable for
I disagree about buying used.  Sure, there is a chance of defects unless you carefully check out the product before buying, but given the option of spending $2K for a new table or the same $2K for a $4-5,000 new price used table, the latter is pre...
Advice for a new Oracle Delphi Owner
If you are worried about strain on the motor, you can do what I do on my VPI (not because I worry about strain, just to minimize belt slip and premature glazing).  Just do you final tightening on the clamp as you turn on the motor - it will help i...
SME Tonarms, SOTA Vacuum Turntables, and 10" Records
You could also use a rim weight like some other turntables use (VPI) - it would hold the lip down so it couldn't hit the platter.Frankly, I think your solution is just fine - I own a Sota Cosmos but if I have to play 10" I just do it in y other sy...
