Evaluating a system - what do you listen for?
I find two instruments especially good for analysis.I listen to live piano every day.  If a system reproduces believable piano that makes you think it is in the room with you, you've got something! The other instrument is violin, and the same crite...
What's been playing on your turntable and what turntable is it ?
Cembalowerke II on the Sota Cosmos and Keb Mo's eponymously named album on  the VPI TNT (different systems).  Impossible to compare sounds as the speakers are so totally different (ML CLS and Wilsons respectively)
Vandersteen
PS - to answer the question, I have had the 4As since the 1990s and still like them far too much to sell them, so I run them in a 3rd system in the living room.  Had to replace the surrounds on the bass drivers a couple of years ago, and Richard t...
Vandersteen
" Wow!  4As?  Don't often hear about Model 4s.  How long have you had them?"Well Richard made relatively few of them - I think a couple of hundred pair, made when they were up to date on their 2 deliveries and had the time. His initial thrust was...
Martin Logan CLS "Buyer's Guide" Question
Must say that I still like the original CLS best of all, assuming you have an amp that will drive the load - they just seem to 'disappear' more than the later versions do.  Glad they still offer panels for them - will probably need them some day -...
Vandersteen
My Vandie 4As are excellent on symphonic works.  They don't 'fall apart' at all, but then they run separately amplified bass sections with a Vandersteen external crossover.
Wilson Audio Haters
Funny  that most  people that denigrate the Wilson speakers have never heard them - probably reacting to a company making speakers they can't afford?I listened to various Watt/Puppy combos over the years (never occurred to me that they looked like...
Store sound v/s Home sound
Are you talking about listening to demo speakers in the store and then buying new in the box speakers that may need extensive break in?
Doh, left system off all night
Yeah, my big mono Class A amps will heat you out of the room in summer, and then there is the cost of electricity - the equivalent of having a 1 kw space heater going whenever they are on.Fortunately they take very little time to warm up.
Help, My Vandies Sizzle
I'll second how good the Vandie 4As are.  Makes for a busy system, biamped and triwired, but they sound great.  I had to have my woofer surrounds replaced last year - no big deal.
What's been playing on your turntable and what turntable is it ?
Glen Gould doing the 6 Bach Partitas on a VPI TNT V.
Your Go to CD to Impress
I don't put any CDs on - I spin some well executed vinyl if I want really good sound.
Is it a OK to leave tube pre-amps powede up 24/7
I run a couple of hybrid amps and both have circuitry that allows the tubes  to be turned off when you switch to stand-by mode.  It means a delay when you fire it up again, but not as much as if you turned it off completely.  One is an Audio Resea...
Where is the significant point of diminishing returns on hi-end turntable?
I have an analogue front end that would be about $25K new - but I paid maybe half by buying used carefully over a few years. You might want to consider doing that.
Seller asked for PayPal fees after the sale. Should I pay them or not?
I've had the same experience. No mention of fees to be paid by the buyer in the ad (it would have been contrary to Paypal terms of service) and then they demanded them from me after the Ebay auction.  I declined and suggested that they review Payp...
