Streaming vs traditional
I ripped my entire (4,000+) CD collection in FLAC and store it on a network server so that it is accessible via software to stream to any system in the house.  I use a separate DA converter (which sounds significantly better than any I've heard in...
Ugly vs Gogeous speakers
While I certainly like the speakers, like Sonus, that are fine furniture as well as sound reproducers, the question that always comes to mind is whether an audiophile with limited means (whether having a budget of $1,000 or $100,000) wishes to spe...
Why is good, deep bass so difficult? - Myths and their Busters
i actually know what 16 HZ sounds and feels like....on Sundays My video system goes down to 16 Hz - but really you don't hear as much as feel at that frequency! My main audio system is 3 dB down at 20 Hz - adequate for just about any music.  You ...
Why don't amplifier Companies use high end fuses?
Two kinds of fuses - power supply fuses and those in the signal path (output fuses).Never heard a difference in power supply fuses.  If you do, great.  Something else to spend money on.  Maybe it's just because I use amps that run for about 20 sec...
Wine, audio, and music. How many of us Aphiles enjoy wine when listening to music?
I have about equal numbers of LPs and bottles of wine.Problem is that if I am drinking wine I only play digital - not willing to risk a multi thousand buck stylus disaster.

Not many components can say they have been in commerce for a long time, but haven't become dated and superseded by more current gear,The SME V arm came out in 1985, was considered one of the handful of top tonearms available, and continues now, 32...
What is your speaker ownership history since 1995?

Best Subwoofer To Use With A Two Way Speaker System
If you get a chance listen to some Hsu subs.  Surprisingly good!
Koetsu surprise
FWIW, I find that the Urushi works very well with a moderate, rather than light tonearm (i.e. 10 g +). I use an SME V and am pleased with the results. I have heard that the cartridge works even better with higher mass arms, but I haven't got aroun...
If bi-amping is so great, why do some high end speakers not support it?
Apparently some manufacturers believe that owners are more likely to screw up the sound with biamping and others  support it. I biamp my  Vandersteens as they are set up for it. Class A monos up top and Class ABs with plenty of current on bass...
Turntable Dust Cover Option
I use a VPI TNT which is an oversize turntable.  I believe that VPI does/did offer a quite expensive cover for it, but I simply got some plexiglass rod stock, cut six equal length legs and glued them to a sheet of plexi.  Keeps most of the dust th...
