Vandersteen 2w or 2wq's While I own a 2W, I also own some Hsu VTF-15H MK2. For $900 these will kill just about anything else at that price point, including the Vandies.
Which speakers do you like in the $5K price range? Vandersteen 5!
What used speaker would you buy with $20,000-$35,000 and why? I was recently making just this sort of choice. I finally opted for Wilsons, but the Maggie 20.7 were my runners up. (I'm a sucker for clean low bass)
Going to rip 2000 cds. Which software? dBpoweramp CD Ripper - works great - just did 3,000 CDs with it!
The one piece of gear you will never sell My Vendetta phono stage will never leave my system - ever!I'd be unlikely to divest myself of any of my three Classe DR3 VHC either.
Vandersteen 2CE sig II first run or current?.... " I've heard that Richard can be forthright."He certainly can - when I called and told him I'd detonated one of the mid range drivers on my 4As, he acted as if I had abused one of his children (I hadn't, but my amp had an output device that had c...
So how many people are using subwoofers " I recently got Vandersteen 5 speakers that have true built in subs that go to 22 HZ, are very tunable, and have built in 400 wpc amps to drive the subs. I have never heard such great bass, and I love them. But a friend uses REL subs with MG 3.6...
What vintage speaker might you use today "Did I miss anyone mentioning a Vandy? Their model 2Ce is a keeper "Yeah - my main system speakers have been Vandersteen 4As for many years. He only built a couple of hundred of them whenever he could spare the time from production of the more pop...
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced Unknown can be a result of never having been given a review in the audio mags, or small production, or both.I am a big fan of the Classe DR3 VHC, but they never had a review, they only made 166 of them (I own 3, one run stereo and two as bridged m...
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced Agree on the Belles - still use one f his first, a Belles A, in a third system
Stand out phono stages The one that blew me away and ended my search for phono stage nirvana was the fairly rare John Curl designed Vendetta. I've listened to more modern units but have yet ti find one I'd swap my SCP - 2T for.Apparently he only made around 200 of them...
old classic phono cartridges I also have a Carnegie and Clavis. The latter us well worth resurrecting!
Turntable for life I have no intention of changing out my VPI TNT V with SME V and Koetsu Urushi in this lifetime!
What vintage speaker might you use today My systems are a cross section of my audio history as I find myself unable to part with many favourites.I've owned and valued Spica Angelus, and still own and use Vandersteen 4A (newer models are simpler with on board amps, albeit more costly), an...
Great multichannel amps do not cut it in stereo Some multi channel power amps can be pretty good sounding.I had to put my AV surround amp in as main player for the system for a couple of weeks (an ATI 1505) and was pleasantly surprised with the decent sound. |
