RIP Dave Wilson
Put on a well recorded organ LP from Wilson, played through my Wilson speakers and will dig out some more of his LPs, which I've been neglecting for too long.
How much power can a pair of Klipsch La Scalas take ?
Not clear on exactly what you are doing.  You are running another pair of speakers (Chorus) along with the Klipsch?  If so, why?
How To Field Questions About Your Audiophile Lifestyle...
Play them a solo piano or violin recording - they will either marvel at how realistic it is or ask how loud and how much bass the system has and you'll know whether to dump them immediately or spend more time on them.I had one guy swearing that hi...
RECORDS THAT HAVE IMPRESSED PEOPLE SO MUCH THEY BOUGHT MY STEREO
I'll second Nightfly - always thought Becker was the anal retentive one that instigated so many repeat takes in the studio on Steely Dan recordings, but maybe it was Fagen, based on the quality of this album.
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
I have used the 2W quite successfully to fill in what smaller monitor main speakers lack in the low bass - still own one, though not currently in any of my systems.I don't need a sub for my main system (20Hz capability) but nonetheless added a cou...
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
Love the Bedini amp!I can't leave my Class A amps on all the time. They draw around 400 watts each just sitting there when not converting any of it to sound and they heat the room up noticeably by the end of a listening session. They do not take lo...
Bi-Amping Which amp for highs and which for lows?
Unlikely they have the identical gain, so padding one down would be necessary.  You could use a high quality capacitor in the high input to roll off the bass, and use a volume control of some sort in the bass input to match the output.
Switching a single set of speakers between two amps
I have also looked for a simple convenient solution to this question. At present I have my speakers operated either by my hifi front end (all tube) or by an AV system with AV preamp and solid state power amp.Not too onerous to switch as both power...
Omega single driver speakers
There are advantages and disadvantages to coincident speakers - basically locating your tweeter in the middle of your bass driver.  It certainly isn't a new idea - Tannoy did it and called it 'dual-concentric' many years ago (1940s).The only way y...
Streamer
dbpoweramp is great.I use Sonos for wireless connection with a server (you can do it to just a single computer if you want) but there are other software packages out there.I think you will find that you will want to rip a lot more than your own CD...
DIY High pass filters for Vandersteen Model 5A Carbon's?
Vandersteen has used first order crossovers consisting of one or two high quality capacitors, often soldered to RCA jacks and shrink wrapped.  They should still have these available. You need to tell them the power amp you will use to drive the to...
Oppo 205 guagers selling used units for twice the price...
You are paying a lot of money for on board processing when you could just buy a competent deck to use as a transport and route the digital output to a really good AV preamp with all the processing power you could want.  To each his own.
Pro Amps - What have you tried?
I've listened to some decent Crown power amps as well as some Bryston gear - the lowest output pro power amp, the 2B is particularly nice sounding and I have a pro version (the only difference being no power switch as they are intended to be gange...
Is a GREAT turntable under $2000 possible???
IMHO, the best way to go if you are a discerning buyer, is to get a used table/arm and maybe cartridge ensemble that cost up to $6K for your $2K.....People that own that sort of table tend to take very, very good care of them and you can find some...
Thoughts on the most difficult instruments for speakers to reproduce?
My wife plays piano. I am a lapsed student of the instrument.I put on some audiophile record (forget what it was, but it had excellent piano reproduction) on the big system and she called from the other room - "Is that YOU??"  It sounded so much l...
