CDs Vs LPs
Meaningless question - you can’t generalize. On some albums vinyl sounds better on some digital, and there can be a half dozen or more remasterings in either, any of which can sound great or crappy, depending on what they started with and what they...
Are there any Delphi Oracle Users Who Can Comment
The Oracle is beautiful in a way that few other tables are - that gets it a lot of customers as long as the sound is at least decent, which it was.I had a Delphi 2 so can't comment on how the latest version, but it seems to impress the reviewers.I...
Tonearm comparison, Rega vs Zeta, anyone?
I've tried the Rega, Mission Mechanic and Zeta, the latter on an Oracle Delphi Mk 2.  Surprised at all the dislike for the RB300 - it is still a bargain, sonically, but the Zeta is a work of art that should handily better it, They are rare, so fin...
Good carts with SME V
I have had excellent luck with both the Koetsus (Urushi in y case) and a Lyra Clavis.  I still have both running in SMEVs in my systems.Ask Jonathan Carr at Lyra what current cartridges he thinks best suit the arm.
New D'Agostino Monoblocks...$250,000
Sounds like just the amp you need when you buy those 70 dB efficient speakers you've been wanting....
price of Oppo players threw the roof
Never understood people with no concept of free market economy.  There is no moral obligation on the part of a seller to be a nice guy and sell for less than the going price for any item - his goal is to get as much as the market will bear, end of...
Surprised
Good bass is possible at acceptable cost if you look to heritage speakers.I still use some late 1980s Vandersteen 4As in one of my rooms. They were built in small numbers at much higher price in between filling all the orders for the 2Cs and they ...
Surprised
Integration is always at least a possible issue with subs. Many are very flexible and easy to integrate like the REL, Vandersteen, and Hsu, but many are not. Most subs aren't for really low bass, they are for bass from about 60 Hz and down and I've...
RIP Dave Wilson
Put on a well recorded organ LP from Wilson, played through my Wilson speakers and will dig out some more of his LPs, which I've been neglecting for too long.
How much power can a pair of Klipsch La Scalas take ?
Not clear on exactly what you are doing.  You are running another pair of speakers (Chorus) along with the Klipsch?  If so, why?
How To Field Questions About Your Audiophile Lifestyle...
Play them a solo piano or violin recording - they will either marvel at how realistic it is or ask how loud and how much bass the system has and you'll know whether to dump them immediately or spend more time on them.I had one guy swearing that hi...
RECORDS THAT HAVE IMPRESSED PEOPLE SO MUCH THEY BOUGHT MY STEREO
I'll second Nightfly - always thought Becker was the anal retentive one that instigated so many repeat takes in the studio on Steely Dan recordings, but maybe it was Fagen, based on the quality of this album.
Vandersteen Sub woofers v Rythmik Subs
I have used the 2W quite successfully to fill in what smaller monitor main speakers lack in the low bass - still own one, though not currently in any of my systems.I don't need a sub for my main system (20Hz capability) but nonetheless added a cou...
Does anyone leave their amp and preamp on all the time?
Love the Bedini amp!I can't leave my Class A amps on all the time. They draw around 400 watts each just sitting there when not converting any of it to sound and they heat the room up noticeably by the end of a listening session. They do not take lo...
Bi-Amping Which amp for highs and which for lows?
Unlikely they have the identical gain, so padding one down would be necessary.  You could use a high quality capacitor in the high input to roll off the bass, and use a volume control of some sort in the bass input to match the output.
