Have you ever downgraded deliberately? Although I don't regard it as downgrading, I do maintain a couple of systems made up of components that I have had for many years as well as some old gear I acquired more recently.I have one system with Martin Logan CLS (original version c. 1986, ...
Is the Vinyl Revival well and growing? I would like vinyl to continue at a sufficient level of popularity to maintain production, but don't really care if it continues to increase in popularity. There are a ton of used albums available - enough to supply needs for any foreseeable futur...
WHY DO SOME AUDIOPHILES THINK YOU ARE BRAGGING WHEN YOU ARE SHARING? Some products are an inherent brag even if the owner says nothing (a rare occurrence). Drive a Viper, wear a gold Rolex, own the latest silly priced amplifier, and its existence is an implied brag. There are people that own the same products becau...
Speakers for a very large room? Excellent suggestion on the room treatment An empty room with hard sides will slap echo like a bastard without treatment. Carpets on the floor, drapes on any windows etc. tame things considerably. While one could probably be pretty happy with some...
Can you live with your current speaker until you die? I owned some main system speakers for decades. In fact I still own them as I am attached to them and would miss them, but I have moved to different speakers in my main system. Each speaker does some things well and very good speakers do most thing...
Just an observation here, but???????? Either high mass or good suspension can work, question is whether they do in a given situation.I have one sprung table, a Sota Cosmos, and its is admirably free from environmental vibration. (A good way to test is to get out a test record with a b...
Herron VTPH-2A Phono Preamp....anyone familiar? If I didn't have the phono stage I have, that one would be on my very short list - it is very good.
Audio research I auditioned the SP9 Mk 2 and found it wanting. Ended up buying an SP14 that was far better. I'd pass on the SP9 - you can do better. The SP14 phono stage used exactly one tube, so no issues with trying to find tubes going south, and it sounded go...
How do you store and catalog your vinyl? Ikea Kallax is a Godsend. I have many of them to house my 4,000+ vinyl, organized alphabetically, with separate sections for rock/pop, jazz, audiophile and classical. I have never seen the point in cataloguing them, except that it might prevent ac...
Looking for ideas - new mono blocks for stereo music Interesting system you have. The Marantz receivers are actually pretty good. I use a 7702 Mk 2 pre in my AV system (the one that superseded it was a step down) and as I use two different amplification set ups depending on whether I am doing AV or...
DAC OR NO DAC??? A friend uses the Schiit and it is quite good, although sounded not as good as my Hegel HD12, which to many ears sounds about as good as the more expensive HD25.You can find the HD12 slightly used for $1K or less.https://www.computeraudiophile.com...
Need to recap my Classe Audio DR-8 Amps - need suggestions Forget about it and use the amps and enjoy them.. If they have an issue, just contact the service centre and send them in (costly, but nice to have that available).I sent a DR3-VHC in a few years ago (when Classe was owned by B&W) and they re...
Lyra Kleos vs Koetsu Urushi @ mulveling I agree the Koetsu & Bob's Devices SUT combination is amazing. It's hard to imagine anything beating that paring for musicality I have never heard any phono stage that was better sounding (with Urushi or not) than the John Cur...
Leaving Solid State Equipment on all the Time My preamps are always on standby, so no warm up time needed. Can't do that on my amps as they are class A and would put out 500 watts apiece in heat into the room - not a good idea in summer.I just turn them on a half hour before listening and hav...
SOTA vs VPI (or stick with my Rega?) I own both - VPI TNT 6 and Sota Cosmos. Both are good, but for long term support VPI is probably better. |
