McIntosh Tube or Solid State - what way to go?
The cliche is that Mac tubes sound SS and vice versa, though I'm not sure how true that is: I have no experience with Mac tube amps. I do have SS MC501 monos and I really like them--they remind me in some ways of my 2A3 tube system in midrange blo...
Class A watts vs Class A/B watts
I have a fully dual mono, pure class A SS boutique amp that puts 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms. By design, it gets so hot you can't leave your hand on it for 5 seconds--on idle! I also have Mac MC501 monoblocks that put 500 watts into 4 ohms. ...
Anyone using McIntosh with Vandersteen Quatros
Although I've owned both brands I can't comment on this combo. But if you're looking for bass traps, FWIW, I've had good luck with these:GIK Tri-traps They're effective, relatively cheap, and don't look awful.
Suggest upgrade from c2300 phono stage
Hi Bob,Your third post above slipped in ahead of me. You're right, the phono stages of the C2300 and C500/1000 look very different. Post #19 in this link provides the irrefutable ocular proof: Phono section on the C500 vs...Bill
Suggest upgrade from c2300 phono stage
I stand corrected, then: I guess the phono stages are different in the Big Macs.Bill
Suggest upgrade from c2300 phono stage
Pepe,I have a friend with your amp and preamp and he can't say enough good things about the Aesthetic Rhea Signature in combination with them. He won't even use the C2300 phono stage, and didn't when he had an Art Audio Vinyl One, either. The Rhea...
Vinyl pops and clicks: Can they be eliminated??
Well, you can disown the bristling tone of your posts in this thread if you wish but the poster felt unnecessarily chastised and at least two readers thought it was out of line. You're a knowledgeable guy and contribute a lot to this forum. Thank ...
Vinyl pops and clicks: Can they be eliminated??
Come on, Dougdeacon, the guy asks for advice and you dig up a a two year old post, throw it in his face, and slap his hand with a ruler for imagined impoliteness and inadequate record care. Is that really helping anyone?

Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Travbrow's posted specs are correct according to the manual that comes with the 4000DIII/Gold.I also bought two of of these cartridges, and picked up two of those replacement styli from turntableneedles.com. One peculiarity is that each of these s...

Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, thank you very much. What brand of capacitors would you recommend to provide capacitive loads? Kevin will install my choice. Thanks again.Bill
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul et al, what are the most useful capacitance values for a MM phono stage? Kevin at K&K has agreed to install a capacitance selector switch on my Maxxed Out. I can have up to 5 different values. What do you folks think they should be? Figur...
Excellent MM phono stage w/ capacitance loading?
I talked to Kevin and he's going to add a MM capacitance dial and some MM loading options to my Maxxed Out, along with some other upgrades. Thanks again for the suggestion.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I agree. I've worked out the bias pretty well for it on my Phantom (took the A/S weight off altogether) and the 4000D/III sounds astoundingly good with around 15 hours on it. Very live, detailed, and extended at both ends with a an organic, emotio...
