Best of both worlds, Vandersteen and B&W
+1 Something’s not right. 3A Sigs with anemic bass? Less air and just a bit loose would be my expectation in comparison. Both speakers play well with the right set-up and equipment. If not, the Vandersteens may bore and the B&W’s may glare/siz...
Recommend a SS amp for my new Vandersteen Quatro CT
There are endless recommendations for ARC tube and Ayre SS amps with Audioquest cabling. I use ARC pre with Ayre and Nordost Frey2/Tyr 2 with my 3A Sigs. Great sound.
For cassette enthusiasts - How to color cassettes
That's an old tweak.  What you describe are actually the winter colors.  In  Spring - use Green, Yellow and Tan,  Summer - use ALL WHITE,  Fall - use Orange, Brown and Gray.  NEVER use colors on a clear cassette.  They're designed to be at their b...
Avid Acutus Record Clamp leaving marked "ring" on record label
I have a VPI clamp. I hold the bottom section of the clamp still while tightening so it doesn’t scrape the label and tighten just until the platter starts to spin. It works well - no damage or indents and it flattens the records as well as they ca...
Vandersteen
The Sigs will do justice to some fine quality gear so the point-of-no-returns is likely elsewhere in your system. Vandersteens are very sensitive to toe in, tilt, and distance from walls but "falls to pieces" on complex works sounds more like a sp...
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
Sadly, spending a ton of money on gear does not automatically produce a great sounding system where cabling makes a difference.   Your room and/or components are not playing well together.  Performance is (optimistically) mediocre.  You have some ...
Acoustic Zen Sartori - my experience
joey_vNow you've got me thinking.  The Satoris are likely the weakest link in my system.  The Oaks could be  a good candidate for the short list.
Acoustic Zen Sartori - my experience
To put things in perspective, my custom 16 ft Satori Shotgun costs $2,388.  16 ft Satori biwire cost $1,262, the Oaks in biwire  are $5,250 and the WELS biwire  are $62,000.  What does your experience that Satori is bettered by wire at 4 and 50 ti...
Who would buy a Boulder 3050 amplifier?
kalali,I suspect many non-audiophiles and most women have a similar view of our "modest" systems.
Need recomendation for an IC to fill out and enrich the sound between amp and pre-amp.
I find IC's that reveal more extension, dynamics and detail are the better value in the long run.  There is always a price to pay with budget IC's.  They either warm up the sound or increase the soundstage, rarely both if ever.  Have you rolled th...
Confessions from a VPI owner of some 30 years
Maybe post your problem on the VPI forum. http://www.vpiforum.com/index.php
Hot Stampers from a customer perspective
Not my first rodeo.  Thanks anyway.
Recommend your best sounding LP's
Lately Friday Music surprised me with Traffic - Last Exit.  The recording is outstanding and unusual in that the lead instrument on side two is an organ.  It sounds way better than my pristine vintage copy on United Artists label.
Hot Stampers from a customer perspective
I wonder if the "Relax" function of this new product will make hot stampers out of every well recorded record.  https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/afi-flat-record-flatener When it distributes in the U.S. I'm getting one.
AFI FLAT Record Flatener
Here’s a review http://www.theaudiobeat.com/blog/afi_flat.htm Price is €2000 + tax or €2490 in the German market. Now, who distributes in the U.S.?
