Wall St. Journal article
Finally heard a song off the new Metallica album today. In a word the production was TERRIBLE. As I listened I instantly knew exactly what people were referring to when they said it was too loud. If the volume was up enough to get it to the approp...
Cary 303/300 or Musical Fidelity A5 with Mac gear?
I'd go with the Cary. I haven't owned one but every time I've heard a Cary CD player it sounded suprisingly good in the system. I've heard them sound great with Krell. I have Mc gear myself and I'd go with Cary or Rega if I were buying another CD ...
Universal Remote for Dummies
I found the Theater Master MX-500 to be one of the best designed products I've every owned. In any case check http://www.remotecentral.com for info about remotes.http://www.remotecentral.com/mx500/index.html
Article in WSJ about compressed dynamic range
Of course. And the listening situation argument doesn't hold water with me. I was listening to my car stereos in in the vehicles I've owned since the early 70s and the music never sounded as crap as a Foo Fighter, Nirvana, Metallica, Green Day son...
Wall St. Journal article
In an email even the recording engineer says "it's something I'm not proud of." He had to backpeddle after it was posted to a forum but still said his sentiment is the same and that he could have said it better. If you take one look at the wavefor...
Saw My Morning Jacket a few nights ago
Yeah, that's the thing.. MMJ sound great live. OTOH, their recordings, while they have their moments, are not anywhere near the live experience.
Ripping CDs to lossless in Itunes.. HiFi approved?
I would rip to a format that's not controlled by one company. Flac for example.
Proac, Spendor or Quad 22L's has anyone compared
I'm familiar with all three and unless you go to the very high end Proac's, then I prefer the Spendors. Quad's never have done much for me.
Best sounding Krell ?
I think Ayre and Krell are light years apart in sound. If you've been listening to Krells with Bat tube Preamps for the past 10 years, I would expect you think most other amps especially some of them to sound a bit lifeless. Krell is as lively as ...
NAD: Old -vs- New
NAD's pretty much like Musical Fidelity - once they shipped production offshore, they became an also-ran.
Best recorded rock album.Amused to Death.R.Waters?
I think the Fleetwood Mac Rumours album produced mostly by Lindsey Buckingham sounds fantastic. One rarely sees an artist who is able exercise such restraint - especially a guitarist.
When Streaming, is 128kps good or not so good?
I pay the extra $2.99 for 128kbs. It all depends on if you listen to Sirius a lot. I've had Sirius for 4 or 5 years and have become pretty familiar with the channels so it's a nice little library of genres where you can listen to whatever you're i...
Leon Russell
Yeah, Carney was a favorite of mine as well. Haven't listened to it in 30 years though.
Confessions
This evening, I listened to Simple Red's "Stars" album and thought it was well-recorded. I'm not admitting to being a fan though. Have only listened to the disc about 6 times in 15 years but just put it on today (the Transporter makes it easy to l...
Best sounding Krell ?
The Krell sound is not for everyone but I do know one thing - they are built like tanks. I saw a dealer literally drop a 400Xi from about waist level onto solid concrete. The Krell chipped the concrete and there was barely a scratch on the corner ...
