McIntosh MC275V monos versus MC501 monos?
I have no idea why you'd want to throw 501s on Cornwalls. If you read the Klipsch forum I think you'll see Klipsch and tubes are a good match. I should hook up my 402 to my Fortes sometime just to see how they sound. Maybe I'll do that soon. Still...
Stereophile claims about Magico
Yep, somebody's got to buy 'em new. I find the best way to evaluate a product is to read dozens of reviews. A lot of times you can read between the the lines of the magazine reviews and then read the discussions in the forums here and really get a...
Very low speaker impedance
I believe it's mainly because they want the box a certain shape (narrow). If the speaker box can be made whatever size the deisgner wants (wide but not aesthetically pleasing) then a lot of trade-offs can be eliminated.
Name three of yours the most favourite drummers
2nd Steward Copeland. He's one of the most undernoticed great drummers out there.
Stereophile claims about Magico
Sirspeedy, from my recent reading of Stereophile reviews take them all with a grain or several grains of salt. They don't seem to review much that they don't like a lot. The hyperbole freely flows. Last month they reviewed the Ravel Salon IIs and ...
any info on the klipsch heresy 3
Well, I hate to say it because I like the Klipsch heritage line but they could very well end up harsh sounding. I prefer either vinyl and/or tubes. If you go SS you need a smooth sounding amp. The horns while providing great dynamics can be harsh ...
What amp would be good for the Aerial 7b's
I second the mc402. Tried Marantz, Krell and MF but the combination of the detail on those amps and the detail on the speakers was too much. After the 402 I'm listening to music again and not thinking about my equipment. Although I haven't owned C...
Wise audio aphorisms
You have to spend a lot to realize, that, yeah, it was worth it. ;)
Jump in now or wait?
Well you might consider the just released DAC1 pre. But obviously they're going to keep releasing new products every so often. I don't expect any significant advances in sound as we haven't really seen that over the past 5 or even 10 years IMO. Al...
Reconciling conflicting listening interests?
Sure, I think after some experience in this hobby, each of us would like to have 3 or 4 systems and 3 or 4 listening rooms, one optimized for each type of music - classical, vocal, rock, acoustic, etc. Some do but impractical for most of us. If yo...
How do you ship large items? Help
That's good news. How did you decide on those speakers and what is the associated equipment you're using?
What Solid State PreAmp?
Most of your room EQ is below 300Hz. 4kHz is actually quite high and useful for attenuating the hard edge of poor CDs or system shortcomings.[...]For many CDs, program equalization is needed. The 4Khz band on the c46 can be turned down all day lon...
mac 501 output power - hifi news June issue
Maybe HiFi news didn't know what the taps were for?
What Solid State PreAmp?
The c46 8-band eq highest control is centered on 4kHz. So if you need to roll off 10~20kHz highs, it isn't going to work well for that. Download the manual to see the eq curves. The c46 eq is more for fixing specific bumps in rooom acoustics.
What Solid State PreAmp?
Mike, why don't you try the McIntosh? I've often read they have good synergy with McIntosh amps. I have a 402 as well and I'm searching for c2300 so I'm biased that way. Love the amp and figure the pre-amp should go the same way. Right now I'm run...
