Recommended cheaper vintage SS Integrated Amps?
Onkyo Integra if you can find one.
Sota Total Eclipse package for VPI tables first impression
@tablejockey  The Phoenix setup is real time speed adjustment. The VPI isn't. That alone, makes it more accurate. It's not really real time.  Once per revolution the speed is calculated and adjusted.  It's more adaptive than real time, the VPI so...
Sota Total Eclipse package for VPI tables first impression
@melm, FWIW I have never found that quick switching from one alternative to another to be a useful guide to judging SQ. Even more so when the switch will take time as switching between the two motors will. A week of relaxed listening is the onl...
Tube preamp enhancement of HT processor sound
I run my Maggies thru a BAT tube preamp on the HT for l&r.  At one point I ran the l&r via preout directly into the power amp.  It sounded great either way, the power amp being the common denominator here.  But I think I prefer the tube pr...
How much difference does a phono preamp really make?
Here's my take.  In a vinyl reproduction system, the phono preamp system, which could be simply a built in phono stage, a separate phono preamp or those in combination with an SUT, is the most critical part of a system's amplification chain.  This...
Listening to digital and analog
I still listen mostly to vinyl, but as my system has progressed, I have come around to somewhat appreciate digital.  I do have a few old CDs, and a NAD 5000 cd player that I mostly used for testing vintage equipment.  I now have that and a Node 2i...
Sota Total Eclipse package for VPI tables first impression
Yes, but the proof is in the comparison coming this weekend.  We'll be able to compare both motor systems side by side with a simple change of the belts from the VPI/SDS and Total Eclipse system to the flywheel.  I'll be able to set up the motors ...
Adding 2 Channel to my HT system and need some input on options
Dont listen to the 2 channel purists, they know not what they preach..Doing 2 channel with HT is really quite simple.  Get a preamp with bypass mode.  My BAT pre has this functionality, and with 2 channel listening, the HT doesn't interfere at all...
Gimbal vs unipivot tonearms
@rodman99999  I've been using a Magnepan Unitrac I, since 1981.I have one, and recently replaced it with a Rega RB300 finally rewired with Discovery wire.I have it on a vintage Denon, and I always thought the lack of bass was due to the table. I...
Looking for preamp which is good at BOTH single-ended AND balanced output
I can reccomend the BAT VK-30SE, I have one in my system now.  While you will probably get better results with balanced due to the topology itself it does quite well with unbalanced inputs and outputs
Cables ... no longer opinion
I have some of this stuff laying around.  Might be time for an experiment.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018RDZ3HG/?_encoding=UTF8&aaxitk=ac7db37b9948f264dac85d810b033c8e&...
analog to digital to analog conversion
Think of it like a phono preamp.  You don't necessarily know exactly what equalization was used, other than it's within RIAA specs, and there are different ways to implement RIAA equalization in phono stages.Don't sweat it, just pick the one that ...
Sota Eclipse packages for VPI tables.
I pulled the trigger on the Total Eclipse package, an early Father's Day gift from the wife :).  I spoke with SOTA about it and it seems it's a simple upgrade to the VPI motor, with just a spacer needed to account for the greater depth of the new ...
preamp vs amp: relative effect on sound?
Depending on your speakers, the amp could be as much as 80%.For q2, it’s more about the the voltage required for full output on your amp. For example, if your amp requires .5 v for full rated power, you would probably want to pair it with a low ga...
Welcome to the tweakend!
@dekay My system is in Flux right now.  Are you talking about virtual systems? If not, where?
