Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66
Rubinstein would be my first choice, to me, he just sounds right but a second choice would be Kissin or Perahia. Was surprised that no one else mentioned the later.
I need your advice on system for a non-audiophile
Is a turntable in her future? If not a reasonable CD player, integrated and speakers, monitors/bookshelf should be able to be managed within that range. Or maybe an integrated with a CD player, have no idea if such a creature exists but knowing ma...
Speakes for SET amp
Heard some Coincident speakers with an SET 211 setup and really liked them. Bought the amps. The speakers at that time were not available.
Moby concert and ear damage?
Jax2, You obviously neglected one of my favorite senses, the sense of humor. So make that six
Moby concert and ear damage?
It is indeed the low frequency that vibrates your guts. The Chinese as a punishment for attempting to harm or killthe Emperor would tie someone to a very large bell, attached to the ringer, surrounded by the bell. It rang or vibrated at a hertz bel...
Does Technology Trump Quality?
Have never heard of this being done, and it has some built in limitations based on both price and sound. But if you really can't decide between two speakers why not try for an in home demo using one of each and hear how that works. It would give y...
What's the farthest you've traveled for live music
Went from Albuquerque to Portland, Oregon with some friends for a dead show. It was the seventies and gas was cheap and time was plentiful.
Looking for a good place to start
Botit, Was just looking at new threads, and one newer than yours is "go with a tube preamp or..." That might further enlighten you as to what the possibilities are.Regards,Michael
Looking for a good place to start
Botit, A lot of people seem to feel that they can get the best of both by having a tube preamp and a solid state amp. There is a lot in the archives on this. It was just a thought for a minimum change and let you see if that satisfied your desire ...
Looking for a good place to start
I am going to make some assumptions. That your amp and speakers work well with each other and that your not interested in changing both at this time to go into tubes. If that is the case, then maybe try a tube preamp making sure the impedances wor...
Recommended interconnect phono to preamp
In my system, heavy emphasis on my system, the Hovland Music Groove 2 was the best one I found without more than doubling my price. YMMV.
Any Michael Bub'le fans.......
Buble is good, I enjoy him, Sinatra I grew up with and his voice started going by the 60's. After that it was his following not his voice. Just my opinion. early Sinatra is fine. Buble is here, now, and good, what more can one want.
Convert cartridge output voltage to db gain
My cartridge is low enough, about .35mV that to get it to sound the same as the CD player the volume has to be turned up. Paul Marks, the phono preamp creator said it was a matter of the gain of the phono preamp combined with the cartridge output ...
Kudos to Audio Research
Had a tube amp and a tube blew and the amp was kaput for a bit, sent it back, got it repaired, and has worked as good as ever, give or take a little tube age, so on my experience, a blown tube can blow an amp, but also not necessarily so.
What is more important source or preamp?
Which is more important, a) the source, if it is not clean as clean can be the rest just keeps the garbage flowing, b) amplification, if it isn't made loud enough and cleanly so your going to hear each piece of grunge that gets picked up along the...
