1s are 1s, 0s are 0s, right? Ed Meitner has some good articles on this subject on the web, especially an interview with him I read, by one of the major magazines. It's on the web.
Turntable speed Yes, It is fairly common for Rega TTs to run a little bit fast.Sometimes there is a perception of the sound going a bit slow, when you are hearing alot more detail. I know that sounds kind of funny, but I have even read reviewers making that claim...
Is vinyl dead ? That's a good point, Onhwy61. I agree it is an archaic medium. I am anxiously awaiting for the technology that can surpass it.
Remove spring from RB300 Yes, I know about defeating the spring by setting to 3, but the spring is still in there, and it resonates. Some people do take it out, but I don't know how much better it gets when you do this, and I've never done it.
Moving to Horn speakers Sean, these are the EX3 drivers which are rated at 98db at 1w/1meter, and in a suitable enclosure, they gain about 2db, which puts them at about 100db/1w/1m. With 2 watts, they do about 103db and with 4 they do about 106db. At 8 watts they are hit...
Moving to Horn speakers Yes, Sean, that is based on the 1 meter testing position, on peak. They start to suffer from compression above that level. They may have some compression below that also, but not real noticeable. Of course, SPL drops off as you get further away.
Cartridge for Linn Axis/Akito turntable. I think that the Goldring 1042 would be a good choice. It is re-labeled by Linn as the Linn Adikt cartridge and sold as a good match for their turntables. About $350 retail. A Dynavector 10x4Mk2 is also good for about the same price. The 10x4 is a...
Lowthers - Please educate a village idiot... Zaikesman, I'm sure that it was recorded in that way. But my point was that if the system isn't very phase coherent, then it wouldn't reproduce it so well. When phase-tricks cause the images to be behind you, I think that it won't work well if the...
Remove spring from RB300 I never did it myself, but Audiogon member "Basement" has done it on his, and maybe if you email him, he'll tell you how to do it.
Finally Taking The Plunge It's a pretty wide market, and alot of selections, when you consider a TT, arm, cartridge, phono section. I'd suggest searching the archives for alot of info on this subject, and trying to make an accurate assessment of what level of performance y...
Moving to Horn speakers The amps will do fine on the Lowthers. You don't need that much power, and will only turn up the volume slightly to get plenty of sound. You can do better with a low power SET, but you can do that later. The main concern would be accidentally turni...
Slappys Sob Story. So long folks Good luck, Slappy. Just think about how much fun it will be to get all new gear later on!
Is vinyl dead ? Vader, I didn't attack you. I even said specifically that I wasn't. I simply stated the facts as I see them. I never said that you had to use vinyl, nor am I "shoving it down your throat". Nowhere in my post did I try to say that anybody HAD to us...
Lowthers - Please educate a village idiot... With the Lowthers, you won't have any treble rolloff, unless it's happening at the amp. They are good to over 20kHz on the top end. They are more directional than some other speakers, though, on the top end, and the sweet spot is smaller than most...
Is vinyl dead ? Maybe if they had a functional vinyl rig running in the store, they'd have some demand. But why do that, when it would mean they'd have to do setup, and educate the user? It's alot easier to just sell them an expensive CD player which would be emb... |
