Best Bang-4-Buck Thorens TT???
Many are good. I like the TD125mk2, TD150, TD160 can be had with SME tonearm which is nice. The TD 125 had a very similar bearing to the EMT 928.They are old, so be sure to check them out well.
Vinyl wow
It's a very rare record that I notice any wow recorded into it. If it is happening to you alot, I would suspect the turntable is having a problem.

Lowthers - Please educate a village idiot...
Joe, you'll like the Beauhorns. They're nice. You just have to remember that nothing is perfect, and it's a matter of whether you like the strengths of Lowthers, more than you dislike their shortcomings. Their strengths are very good, and they wil...
What does a pre amp do
I believe that preamps have a very important function. They provide control functions, source and output switching, and pre-amplifying of any source items which may be lower than necessary for the needs of the amp input. As for analog volume contro...
Turntable Power Source Benefits
Zaikesman, I'm glad you are getting a good boost in performance from that new power supply. It must be good, because you've mentioned it on about 3 threads now. I'm sure that it is helping out alot.As you well know, a DC motor, like the 1200 has, ...
Used Morch DP-6 or modified Origin Live Silver?
Swampwalker, my mod is as simple as can be to install. You don't even have to remove the arm from the table. You just adhere the HiFi weights to the end-cap nuts on the bearing axle, while the arm stays in place. Nothing even comes near the cartri...

Doug, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised about that little bit of extra gain. I have a little bit extra too, and I am about max at 9 o'clock on the volume dial as well. This keeps the noise floor very low, and I think you'll like it.
Why can't I hear 20 years of phono 'progress'??
Francisco, you're correct, the classics are still going strong. But I think there have been advances made, including the air-bearing systems which can be finicky and expensive, but can be exquisitely good when done right. I think this is evident w...
Revox Turntable B790 audio.
Not familiar with the Sony unit. Forgive me if these questions seem elementary, but Does it have a phono input? (many units do not)What cartridge are you using?(too low cartridge output can cause this).Assuming it does have a phono input, do you k...
A Wholly Different Approach to Power Conditioning
Thanks, Sean. It's always nice to get a knowledgable opinion on what I'm doing.
Why can't I hear 20 years of phono 'progress'??
Analog didn't really need any advances to beat digital for the last 20 years, and likely will be doing it after the next 20. Hardly dead. The digital world is the one of the eternal promise. "We'll get it right next year, we really will, but if we...
Good Sounding Inexpensive Phono Preamp?
Those will all do the job. I think that you might also look at the Hagerman Bugle. It can be battery powered or with an optional power supply. Hagerman build some nice phono stages.
A Wholly Different Approach to Power Conditioning
Peter, yes Studer makes an inverter/charger in its higher power units. They make up to 2kw models. The battery bank you mention is a large bank, and will take up alot of space, and require ventilation. But it can be done if you really want it.Sean...

A Thorens is a pretty good table, and has alot going for it. It will sound a little different than the Rega 25, but probably near the same level. So you have 2 tables that really aren't all that far apart. I think the Rega has a better arm. What y...
