I use the striker on a match book.
Motor Options
Hi Jim. I haven't done much research on changing motors on the WTC. I think in general that a DC non-cogging motor is better than an AC motor. But it has to have a good speed control system.I tried the Origin Live DC motor system the other day on ...
Spacedeck and stylus force guage
I agree with 4yanx's statement about getting it right by ear. Choose a method, find the VTF you like the sound of, and then continue to use the same method to check it or re-set it in the future.
looking for best isolation platform for CD player
I'm an analog guy, so I can't say from experience what will be best under your particular CD player. However, I can say from experience that the best things I've heard under any other piece of audio gear are the Sistrum platforms and Audiopoints. ...
Rediscovering the Joy of Digital?
Frank, I always recommend a rigid turntable support whenever it is possible. I have always gotten best results in my system that way.I haven't "rediscovered" the joy of digital yet, but I am always on the lookout for something better. Unfortunatel...

Congratulations. You have a very nice setup. Enjoy it. It is as good as you will likely ever need.
Rediscovering the Joy of Digital?
Frank, I note a little sarcasm in your thread. Having a little fun, are we? :^)I'm sure your Michell is doing just fine.Nothing wrong with enjoying both media.
something is wrong here, but what is it?
Not enough gain, agreed.
Is this the best analog has to offer?
I'd say your lack of VTA adjustment is likely the problem. This cartridge likes to be "dialed in", and getting it right with just "luck" with no adjustment is probably so unlikely as to be impossible. I never installed a Michell armboard, but it m...
Aesthetix Rhea vs. Io Signature
Talk to Albertporter about this. He has heard them all, and currently has the IO DPS Signature with all NOS tubes, and knows what you want to know.
Using modern cartridges on a vintage turntable
I'd use a medium to high compliance cartridge on that table, due to the fact that it was made for the Shure V15 and similar cartridges of its day. Don't spend more on the cartridge than you did on the turntable.
What can $300 do?
How about the little Maggie SMG's?
Strange Tonearm Tweak. Long
Doug, they can go on halfway, and that is the normal position. But they can go on all the way by reaming them a little deeper, if you like the look better that way. I sent you an email about it. I hope you got it. You're right, they shouldn't touc...
Best Tube for Classical,,,300b or 45's ??
It depends on your speakers. If the speakers are efficient enough to handle large scale music with 45s, then they are fine. If you are using a subwoofer with a dedicated amp, and just using the SET for lower mids and up, then you have quite a bit ...
Is this the best analog has to offer?
Well, the Shelter 501 is not "zippy or buzzy" so I don't think that is your problem, although you may want to check that the VTA is just a hair lower at the pivot end of the arm, and the loading is set at about 100 ohms. The OL arm is remarkably u...
