Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
@erik_squires The big thing with Drivecore is that it integrates almost the entire amp onto one chip.  You need a power supply and an input stage, everything else is on the chip including waveform generator, clock, drive stage, feedback, output st...
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
@erik_squires Drivecore and Class I aren't necessarily the same thing.  I believe the Class I amps have integrated some of the Drivecore tech, but not all Drivecore are 'Class I'.  The MacroTech i series and iTech series are the 'Class I' amps, th...
Replace KEF 107/2 MF/HF assembly with KEF LS50
I don't think that's a standard XLR connector, as far as I can tell the speakers aren't powered in any way, and you hook your amp up to posts on the bass unit, so whatever that cable is that connects to the top unit has to be carrying power as wel...
Crown XLS 1502.... real life test.
@kclone The Crown line is Harman's pro-equipment line of amps, so not a lot of features designed for home use.  That doesn't mean they don't sound great, but they don't do integrated amps, preamps, etc, that's all left to Mark Levinson.I do find i...
Can a power cord increase the resolution of an Class D (SMPS) amp by more than 5% ?
@atmasphere Looking at @dep14 's calculator, it looks like for a typical home-use power cord (16/3 cable at 6' in length) you're only losing .6% of your voltage on a typical 120v 15a home circuit, that seems like it would be well within the margin...
Can interconnect cables improve sound stage height, width, and depth?
I'm a skeptic when it comes to fancy cables.  Any well-constructed cable that meets the specifications of whichever standards apply to it should be audibly indistinguishable from another such cable.  You may see differences in oscilloscope reading...
What are the best entry level integrated amps and speakers?
For that price range I'd go for a 2.1 setup with two bookshelves or standmounts and a subwoofer, you're going to get much better overall performance compared to just towers and an integrated that you're going to get in that price range.  Some poss...
Paradigm Persona B Loudspeakers Professional Review
@stereo5 It’s funny you mention ‘icepicks in the ears’ because the first few speakers I heard that used AMTs that was my reaction to them.  Then I heard the Triton References, Spatial X2, Legacy Aeris and Valor, the Emotiva Airmotivs, and the Gayl...
Can a power cord increase the resolution of an Class D (SMPS) amp by more than 5% ?
I’m having trouble seeing how a power cord could make a difference.  After all, the stock cable should be capable of delivering the full mains power available to the amp, and the power supply on the amp is going to clean up any minor amount of int...
Paradigm Persona B Loudspeakers Professional Review
I auditioned them at a dealer in Tampa maybe 6-8 months ago and thought they were the best bookshelves I’ve ever heard, no hint of the coarseness, brittleness, or harshness he mentions.  After getting to hear many more speakers at Axpona I don’t k...
Good Speaker within a budget of USD10,000
@jsm71 makes a good point.  Don’t discount the possibility of going with some standmounts and some good subs, though if you go that route make sure you get an integrated amp or processor that can do proper bass management and that has some form of...
Good Speaker within a budget of USD10,000
That sounds like a decent sized room.  The most well-rounded speaker I’ve heard at $10K is the Revel F228be.  The Paradigm Persona 3F is also worth a close look, as is the new Magico A3.  I preferred the Revels to either, but some swing the other ...
Good Speaker within a budget of USD10,000
How big of a space do you have?  That may have an effect on the best speakers for the room.
Loudspeaker for second system
I have a pair of the bookshelf versions, the UB5s, that I use for my computer speakers.  Overall I enjoy them, the coaxial drivers are great for imaging, even extremely nearfield, and though I have mine paired with a subwoofer when I originally au...
Yesteryears' expensive speakers compared to modern moderately expensive speakers
I suppose the answer is 'it depends'.  There have been advances in the past 10-15 years in terms of material science, computer modeling, and even in the scientific understanding of how we process sound and the measurements needed during loudspeake...
